There is already a Low magic spin off of DnD. Iron Heroes. it really cranks down the Magic level. DnD is a mid to high fantisy world, and as such needs magic. I agree that to a point characters should not need so much stuff, but the problem remains that if there is a slot to put something in, then you are going to put something there that is going to make your job easier.

Point: we do not use typewriters, because computers are better. It is the way of the world.

It'd be really handy if the baseline magic bonuses were placed in a box,
like
lv atk AC saves
lv1 +0 +0 +0
lv4 +1 +1 +1
etc

Then give some options to lower this, and what affects it would have on non-item reliant foes.

e.g, okay I dont want to be as item heavy, so my lv17 party will have the gold of a level 12th party, how badly will this affect there combat ability? What changes could be made to make foes more balanced against them so that I can still use higher level monsters?

That kind of thing would be really useful.
