Scarab Sages

Hey all, I present you with a slight experiment,

With a slight variation on the othe thread "What are you listening to...?", I thought not only would be good if people would say what is their favourite tune/song of the moment and why, but also if people could post links to samples of these tunes/songs to show to everyone what you listen to (rather than just describe it).

Without further ado, here's mine:

Dreas VS Alex Robert - "Mormugao" (Original Mix)
It makes me want to put my hands in the air and cry.

Cheers! :D

I bought the whole soundtrack and this is currently my favorite track.

song for jesse

Okay....

I am listening to Radio Rivendell. Just click the top right corner to hear 24x7 streaming fantasy music.

Go to: Radio Rivendell

I play this quietly during my Pathfinder games, then turn it up if I hear something very appropriate, such as battle music, haunting music, etc.

Enjoy.

(P.s. I also listen to this at work... it make my typing seem like a heric and epic event! hehe)

Great tracks! I want that "Assassination" soundtrack. It works outside the film very well.

Speaking of soundtracks, here's a couple Ive been listening to
Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. Go see this film!and
One Blood from Green Street Hooligans. Really great movie...not perfect, but choice! Violence warning on this one.

Liberty's Edge

My daytime default setting: "My War" (live version) by Black Flag.

Speaking of Black Flag, punk rock fans might find this amusing.

That's pretty funny. Shiny, did I ever tell you that Spot and I are friends? His opinion of how things went down back in the day is quite interesting. It may be why I don't listen to Black Flag anymore.

NO! HOW DARE YOU WITHOLD THIS INFORMATION! THAT IS F$~+ING AWESOME!

I've heard that he and Henry didn't get along, and that Spot thought that Henry ruined the band. Is this along the lines of what he's said to you?

(As an aside, I'm a huge fan of Henry, but I think that Greg's lyrics and playing style are what made Black Flag Black Flag.)

He doesn't really talk about that period of his life. I've gotta get him drunk before I bring up the subject and then it's a sort of volatile "careful what you ask for" type situation. Spot used to come into the restaurant I worked in and sit at the counter late nights and hang out with us. He's an awesome guy and a really talented musician, I just think his punk rock days kinda burned him.

I miss Wesley Willis. In his words, Death is a stupid jerk.

Anyway, right now, I've got the insane guitarosity and insane-er vocal leaps of Into Eternity's "Timeless Winter" coming out of my speakers. Yes, it's the same guy singing the verses and chorus. I wish I could do that.

And after that, we've got Apocalyptica, Matt Tuck (of Bullet For My Valentine / JeffKillJohn), and Max Cavalera (Sepultura / Soulfly) with "Repressed". I guess I'm just feeling metal today.

Recently I have rediscovered Portishead's newest album, Third.

Machine Gun blows me away.

Liberty's Edge

Here are a few tracks from an absolutely phenomenal musician, Peter Mulvey. I got to meet him a couple of times, and he seemed really cool. Absolutely brilliant stuff. Right now, it's "Black Rabbit," followed by "Sad, Sad, Sad," and his cover of The Clash's "Bank Robber." I owe my entire playing style to this guy.

After Peter Mulvey, we've got the inimitable Rollins Band, reunited after three years, performing my one of my favorite songs: "Volume 4."

And finally, we have the great Mike Watt with "Tied A Reed 'Round My Waist." And yes, that is Raymond Pettibon at the end of the video.

Grand Lodge

I'm enjoying a cold brew, so what is more natural than putting on those lovable German scamps Tankard and their magnum opus "Empty Tankard"? These guys also gave us classy, sophisticated tunes like "Die with a beer in your hand", "666-Packs", "Space Beer" and "S!+&faced" and covered that excellent Gang Green ditty Alcohol, so we know what they were all about.

Quite possibly my fave tune back when I was a 14-year old beer drinker. Cheers!

Ever hear this one?

Absolutely - I even think the Murphys had a minor hit with it back in Norway.

While I'm on my German kick, let me present the world's best cover song ever, which doubles as the rockingest song ever about sitting in the bakery and eating pie. Here's the original - judge for yourselves.

Speaking of acoustic guitar playing - did you ever check this guy out?

Somewhere along these lines...

Tornion kevät
Totuus palaa
Jeesus oli venäläinen kantoraketti

I'd have to say that this is my song of the momment.
Imogen Heap - Headlock (High Contrast Remix)

Liberty's Edge

Best electric guitar player I've ever heard: John 5 with "Soul of a Robot".

And as far as cover songs go, here are a few of my favorites:

Bullet For My Valentine - "Crazy Train" (Ozzy Osbourne)

Machine Head - "Negative Creep" (Nirvana)

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - "Goodbye Earl" (Dixie Chicks)

The Ramones - "Surfin' Bird" (The Trashmen)

Queens of the Stone Age - "Bloody Hammer" (Roky Erickson)

A Perfect Circle - "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie" (Black Flag)

Children of Bodom - "The Final Countdown" (Europe)

Minor Threat - "Good Guys (Don't Wear White)" (The Standells)

Nirvana - "Lake of Fire" (The Meat Puppets)

Black Flag - "Louie Louie" (Richard Berry)

Liberty's Edge

And now, the amazing Meat Puppets with the original (and better) version of "Lake of Fire."

Okay, so I love it when I find something i haven't heard before. I love Imogen Heap. I mostly know her from her solo work, but I know the stuff she did as half of frou frou. I literally just discovered this a cappella version of the son Let Go. It really is amazing.

I am also doing this. I seem to be hooked on Radio Rivendell. I listen to it while washing dishes and doing laundry and stuff, all epic ventures to be sure.

Liberty's Edge

I'm on one of my old-school punk rock kicks:

- "The Bars" by Black Flag

- "Wound Up" by Black Flag

- "California Uber Alles" by the Dead Kennedys

- "Nazi Punks F!+~ Off" by the Dead Kennedys

And to round it out, some rock that is decidedly not old-school or punk:

- "Hand of Blood" by Bullet For My Valentine

Liberty's Edge

I finally figured out who everybody is in Black Flag's video for "TV Party." I feel proud of myself.

- Greg Cameron (next to fridge) - Tom Troccoli's Dog
- Dez Cadena (on floor) - Black Flag / The Misfits
- Chuck Dukowski (far left, in hat) - Black Flag/ October Faction
- Henry Rollins (on couch with six-pack) - Black Flag
- Tom Troccoli (next to Rollins) - Tom Troccoli's Dog / October Faction
- Earl Liberty (next to Troccoli) - Saccharine Trust

Good stuff- I'm actually already a fan of The Living End. Frenzal Rhomb and The Saints were decent, but the Painters and Dockers blew me out of the water (despite the singer's riffing off of Jello Biafra's choice of shirts).

Right now, I'm on a Mike Watt kick. "Liberty Calls" and "Tied a Reed 'Round My Waist" in particular.

I Shouted Gun, ft Scroobius Pip

From the inimitable MC Lars, "Mr. Raven", followed by Fugazi's "Waiting Room".

Some interesting stuff up here. A nice variety which is keeping me entertained (though youtube is blocked at work, so I have to wait until I get home).

Anyway, two of my current favourites:

Nitrous Oxide - Magenta / Show Me

Both tunes are on the same EP, which is nice!

Cheers! :D

Liberty's Edge

Right now: "Watch Us Work It" by DEVO

Up next: "Sacrifice" by Flipper

Liberty's Edge

It all started with DeviantArt buddy Nick Kole (~homarusrex) posting the music video he directed on YouTube: "Blocks of Amaranth" by DJ Vainglory.

And then, of course, I absolutely had to listen to "Guitar Hero" by Amanda Palmer (no East Bay Ray in the video. *sigh*), followed by everything else on her YouTube channel.

In other news, here are some shameless plugs for my s@%~ty techno music:
"The Armageddon Echo"
"Blue Roses"
And my friend Jarrod's less s$*&ty techno music:
"Project X"

Above and Beyond Pres. Oceanlab - "On a good day"

Cheers! :D

Shadow Lodge

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Perhaps one of my favorite songs

"Fly" by Loudmouth

Unfortnately the best example I can find is from the opening of Omega Boost. Not that that's a bad thing. Omega Boost was an AWESOME game!

I like Armageddon Echo! No, I really like it! Reminds me of Charlie era Prodigy, with some of the edges polished off. Less monotone and thus QUALITY!

The Rake's Song, The Decemberists

Easily the most entertaining song about fratricide I've ever heard.

I can't wait until that album comes out.

I'm listening to William Shatner/Ben Folds In Love.

Ever heard Shatner's "I Can't Get Behind That," featuring Henry Rollins?

With this post, you reminded me about a CD I had been meaning to get for a long time now. So today, during lunch, I picked up Black Angels.

Yes. Yes, I have. And the Henry Rollins track about making the William Shatner track.

"I can't get behind student drivers using my streets to learn! You have to rent a studio to learn to play the drums, you should go to a parking lot to learn to drive! Stop endangering my life! I can't get behind student drivers!"

My friend Kyle Lang just came out with his first full-length album, "Counting Sheep." You can find it here, on DiskFaktory Jams. If you're a fan of Elliot Smith, Ellis Paul, or Bob Dylan, you're gonna like these songs.

Cool, glad you liked it. I always try to spread the word about lesser-known artists.
