Anyone who volunteers for the top tier will get part of a hotel room at the Hyatt, which is right across the street from the convention center. I've already booked these rooms.

It'll probably be similar to last year's totals, except we'll be giving away more swag to all tiers. I'll have a more official announcement once I get done with the Super Secret Announcement that's going out today.

Well... I am hoping I can do this... though I already booked a Hotel...

We will see... it depends on how much I am willing to do..:-)

Josh, I have to tell you, my biggest worries about the convention are

getting my hands on the Pathfider RPG before the convention so I know the rules

Updating everyone's' characters to PFRPG and running the game in only 4 hours..

Don't worry about that. We have both avenues covered. :)

Hey if anyone is looking for a room and does not mind staying 7 miles from the con, I can change my room to a double and split the cost of it.

I may be looking for a roommate next to the con center. Poke me on chat about it?

Something Super Secret????
WHAT IS IT??
I won't be able to check these boards at work (freakin' tech blockers!) and so I'll be out of the loop until I get home.

For the love of all that's holy (or unholy)...WHAT IS IT?!?!?!

Very soon, now. Just need to finalize the schedule.

I know everyone is wanting to volenteer, myself included. I ran 6/8 games last year and am looking/hoping to do AT LEAST that many again this year. I was just wondering if there would be any advance notice, or deferance to people that volenteered last year. I am just curious. I dont want anyone who wants to help miss out. Pathfinder is a really fantastic world and the society a truely remarkable group of creators, GMs, and players. I will be checking the boards as often as i can over this week hoping not to miss the signups. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year and making it even better than last year!

Alright, I just found out that the person I'm staying with at Gen Con this year is not going to fly into town until Thursday, Aug. 13.
The problem with that is > I'm flying in town Wednesday, Aug. 12!!! Thus, I have nowhere to stay for the 12th! I guess I could get a cheap room on the outskirts of town for one night, but that's a maybe at the most.

Suggestions on what I should do?
HELP!!

I am planning to go to Gen Con 2009. But this would be my first time so i was wondering what i would expect. Such as room costs, food costs, how crowded it is or anything else that i may need to know.

Here are my Tips/Tricks. See Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Cost: Pre-registration GenCon 4-day badges cost $68. Buying them at the con costs $75ish. Event tickets cost between $1 and $15 depending on what event you are getting a ticket for.

Food: There are consession stands in/around the convention center, but think movie theator food/prices. There is a connected mall across the skybridge that has a nice foodcourt at normal food court prices. This is where most people eat. There are also alot of nice resturants in the surounding blocks within easy walking distance, but they cost normal downtown nice resurant prices.

Hotels: Hotels are hard to come by. When you buy your GenCon ticket you get a housing code. If there are any hotels left, use the code to get a decent hotel room. Important to note, get hotel ASAP. Otherwise it is quite possible you wont be able to find one come convention time.

Final Notes: It is crowded, so give yourself plenty of time. It is crazy, so get your tickets early. Leave time to wander the exibit hall, half a day at least, more if you want to play demos and such. Lastly, since this is your first time, give yourself time to do a little bit of everything. Play in a few games, spend time on the exibit hall, etc. Above all, relax and have fun!

So I put Soon On my Calendar... but since I did not know when soon was, I just put soon on everyday!... So everyday that goes by we either passed soon, or soon is very far away..

Anyway... Soon is Tomorrow!!!.. well on my calendar.. ;-)

Tempted to offer myself up, but it'd be the first time I've run a game at GenCon since Hogshead went bye-bye. Every year since I've just volunteered at a t-shirt booth run by an acquaintance. Still, Pathfinder is the first system that has me hyped for a release in a LONG time.

Unfortunately, we're full up. But I'll keep my ears open. Another group I'm aware of may have a room free up at the Embassy Suites.

If you stay at one of the hotels in the city core, I've never needed transportation. Everything is within a couple blocks walking distance.

Thank Rienen! Well, I'm supposed to stay in the city with a friend who is arriving on Thursday; trouble with that is I'm arriving on Wednesday. So...I need somewhere to bunk Wednesday night. I've looked into getting a room outside the city for one night, but would much rather stay in town.

Plus, my friend's room is 160 bucks a night! That's just insane - I guess it's a good thing we are splitting the three nights through the weekend.

Also...has anyone downloaded the Event Catalog yet? It is available NOW and it is freakin' packed with stuff to do! A bunch of Pathfinder adventures too! I'm still looking through it. Registration opens up next Sunday.

Wow... could they have made it any harder to read?.. An Excel file?.. You got to be kidding me

EXACTLY!
I can believe it! You have to keep scrolling back and forth to read it all and you have to adjust the cells to see all of the written information.
One thing that helped me was to use the drop down menu options on Event Type, Game System, Gaming Group/Company to help me pinpoint some of the RPG events I am considering signing up for.

I actually prefer the excel file - it lets you sort and filter for the stuff you want pretty easily. I'm now in the process of figuring out a schedule.

All Pathfinder fans, if you're looking to DM Pathfinder at the con this year, We're running a tournament called Iron Player that features the system. The adventure revolves around the mysteries of the starstone and involves a dozen or so different parties adventuring within the same world. We're looking to get as many DMs as possible to help us run the tournament. You can read about it here. You can read about it in this thread here
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/general/2009IronDungeonMasterPathfinderTournamentNeedsDMs&page=1#14

Send us an email at gencon2009@ironplayer.com if you'd like to assist. The Event is RPG0900129, Thursday from 12 to 7:30 p.m.

Is there a time frame we should be looking at the boards for becoming a DM at GenCon this year? I'd like to volunteer again and I am holding out on some plans because of this. I'm sure you folks have you hands full with your own con, so I can understand why it hasn't been posted yet, but having a time to check back would be nice.

Paizo doesn't run Iron DM, so I have no word for you on that.

As for the call for volunteers, expect that this week.

1) for those of you who dread the Excel format, there is a nifty (but unfortunately Windows-only) utility that will let you sift thru the event schedule file more easily:

http://www.mpconnection.com/gencon_2009_easy_catalog.zip

(I did not use the BBcode for URL on purpose, for those of you who prefer to look before you leap - or download...)

2) My search-fu is weak, but I recall reading that there would be a "3.5 to Pathfinder RPG Conversion Seminar" sometime on Thursday morning - but did not see it in the event schedule.

I did a note to myself to reserve the Thursday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm block for it, but it would be nice to have confirmation.

This is dreads btw. I've talked to Lou, one of the judges, and he has assured me that nick should be at gencon and irondm should be a go. Nothings been submitted yet, but Dereck at gencon says it shouldn't be to hard for them to get a room. at the same times as usual.

Mr. Frost, would Paizo be open to supporting the Iron Player tournament in some capacity? Private message me if you can. We've created several more sponsorship opportunities since I last emailed you.
