Now then, I'm no big fan of the BCS, and would prefer a playoff system. That being said, I think it's a bad idea for politicians to get involved. Don't these guys have enough to do? Maybe they should be concentrating on more important things, like the economy, health care, etc.

But seeing Timmy cry like a little girl was great.
That was great, wasn't it? What's Timmy going to do in the NFL where even the best teams usually lose a few games every year? Somebody needs to tell him there is no crying in football.

Personally, that's one reason why I think he won't do very well in the NFL - too damn emotional.
The second reason has to do with many folks in the NFL being as big as the biggest guys in college. Let him run against that all the time and see how long he lasts.

Very true. Running QB's usually have a short life span in the NFL. I don't remember who it was but a coach in the NFL was asked the question, "Do you think the option could work in the NFL". His reply, "Yeah it could work, but you would need about 10 QB's on the roster to make it through the season."

How awesome would it be if an undefeated Colts team played an undefeated Saints squad in the Super Bowl?

As much as I respect Texas, I thought Nebraska got robbed. Two things that stink out of this is the fact that Nebraska did not win the upset and that TCU and Boise St were paired together. Nothing ill about either of those teams (as I still think that Boise St's smackdown on the Sooners a couple years ago in a BCS game was a classic!), but as much they want to make it out a game against another pair of unbeatens, what I believe the powers that be are afraid of would be to pair these guys against other qualifying BCS regional powers and watch them get pounded on -- which would strengthen the non-qualifiers' argument.
And Florida got paired with another team that comes from a BCS qualifying league (Cincy from the Big East).
Far as I'm concerned, it should be Alabama vs TCU. Put Boise State vs Florida and let Cincy have a run on Texas. And if they were all upsets, then the playoff voices can only be heard much more clearly.
****
While I am from Central Ohio (puts on flame retardant) and we're fantatical about our Buckeyes, I sincerely think that the title is Alabama and Nicky Satan's to lose. And far as I'm concerned, Ingram should start working on his Heisman pose.

We owned the National Championship for three years standing, and we'll own it this year too, unless those Alabama guys drop the ball (like Fillie McCoy almost did vs. Nebraska).

Pretty happy with the Rose Bowl this year. With any luck Oregon will be fired up against Ohio State, and lay 40 points on them like they have to most other teams this season. I like the odds with Oregon having beat both teams that beat Ohio State, but I also think OSU finished better than they started.

If y'all don't give OSU their annual bowl beatdown, you don't get to hype the Pac-10 for eight months. Deal? :)
And, don't worry, I fully expect the team who's shirt I am pimping right now to get smacked by Bama, unfortunately.

A. My head is not ugly. It's decayed.
B. My SEC team is LSU.
C. Yes, in fact, I can be a fan of the most bad ass conference in college football, especially when you consider what the other conferences have to offer.
D. I refuse to accept your refusal.
E. Let me guess, at some point, an SEC team kicked the living crap out of your favorite team. If so, don't worry, it happens to a lot of guys.

Decayed = ugly. SEC guys by default has an ugly head, because it's so swelled to distorted proportions.
Yay LSU! I think your coach has been giving Colt McCoy clock-management lessons.
No, in fact, you cannot, because it is ridiculous. It's like a Cleveland Browns fan being an "AFC fan" come playoff time, and running around thumping his chest because the AFC has won 9 of the last 12 Super Bowls. Or a Baltimore Orioles fan turning into "American League East guy" because half of the past 6 World Series champs have been from there.
Also, the PAC-10 and Big 12 were better top-to-bottom conferences this season.
No, I'm not really a fan of college politics, I mean football. I refuse to accept the legitimacy of any champion until there is a playoff. As a disclaimer though, I will state that I did graduate from the University of Cincinnati, and I hope they beat Florida and declare themselves national champs along with the winners of Boise State/TCU and Alabama/Texas, and the debate sparks such controversy that we have to switch to a playoff.

But if Brian Kelly actually takes up the Notre Dame job before the bowl game arrives and ends up not coaching the team for the bowl game, it may be a recipie for disaster. An anomaly was Stewart, who was lucky when he was an interim when Rodriguez left UWV for UM because it sure ain't showing it in the consecutive seasons since.

It's football. Of course I can. That would be like saying that I couldn't ever cheer for Indianapolis because I don't live there, even though I like Peyton Manning.
Also, the PAC-10 and Big 12 were better top-to-bottom conferences this season.
That's because, overall, the SEC is a better conference. Teams are generally good enough, and the competition fierce enough, that there's a better than average chance unranked SEC teams will beat ranked SEC teams during the season. Teams from Texas often fall into a similar category because, like the SEC, football is almost a religion there.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the BCS either, and wish they'd switch to a playoff system (a stance also held by the president of the SEC, but not by that of the PAC-10 or some other conferences, or so I've heard). As for Cincinnati beating Florida, I wouldn't be sad to see it, since it would make Timmy Tebow cry again. Will that happen? I wouldn't bet on it.
Lastly, if you wait long enough, you just may see Congress try to force a playoff system. They're all ready talking about it.

Honestly, I'd dig a playoff system.
However, I think you'll just end up with a bunch of great teams with injured players and a national champion crowned due to having the least amount of injuries at the time of the "Playoffs leading to the Superbowl."
Maybe if they have one fewer game in the "regular season". The FCS does pretty well with a 16-team format.
Miami could have played one game in a 16-team playoff. :)

Wow. I really have nothing to add; I just wanted to ask how the HELL you guys keep college football straight. It's convoluted and obtuse for outsiders!
Well, I don't know about these other guys, but here is my method:
1. Get a copies of all paintings from the Dogs Playing Poker series. Line them up in order near a brick wall
2. Put on a football helmet.
3. Run strait at the wall, as fast as you can, head down.
4. After you get up off the ground, but are still delirious from the pain, look at the paintings. A secret message explaining the inner workings of college football should emerge.
5. If you don't see the message, repeat steps 2-4.
I've heard that a similar method can be used for almost any daytime soap opera, but substitute fresh vomit for the painting.

President Obama did an interview with 60 Minutes at the beginning of the year where he said a BCS playoff was going to be one of the things he worked on as president. Now that's an idea of his that I can get behind.

The Thing from Beyond the Edge |
I like the BCS. A playoff would be bad for the FBS, IMO.
1. It is bad for the individual players. This isn't basketball. Playing at the FBS level is far more grueling and punishing to the body than FCS football is. Three extra games with practice every week would be more of a drain than one game with a month of practice. There would be more injuries. This would be during times when players should be studying for finals. This is a very important point because most players go pro in something other than sports.
2. It would destroy the bowls. That would remove a lot of revenue (as well as revenue sharing of the conferences) from a lot of smaller schools as well as larger ones. Football is an enormous money maker that not only is self-sufficient in funding but it funds other sports as well and usually contributes to the general scholarship fund. As an example look to this about the University of Kentucky football program: UK football and the Young Library. (Note: This is a link to an individual post of another forum.)
3. It would be bad for the quality of play. There is an enormous amount of work that can be done to improve the quality of play for a team with that month of practice. Weekly game preparation reduces the time that can be used to improve fundamentals and develop chemistry and degree of execution.
4. It would be bad for the popularity of the game, IMO. For one, the continual argument over who really is the best is a great hype and controversey that keeps interest focused year in and year out. A lot of fans would not have the opportunity to get excited over and watch their teams play for a title against an opponent they would have a chance of defeating.
Now, time to prepare for a UK-UConn basketball game. :-)
