Bonus Slots and ability damage


Classes: Sorcerer and Wizard


I've read through the Beta a dozen times and I still can't answer this question.

What happens to the bonus spell slots if a Wizard takes Int (or Sor takes Cha, or Cleric takes Wis, etc) damage/drain/penalty?

For instance, let's say we have a 22 Int 6th level wizard, and they drop to 17 Int due to a -5 penalty from touch of idiocy.

That changes their bonus spells from 2/1/1/1/1 to 1/1/1. Do they drop 3 bonus spell slots, if they've got all their spells prepared?

For a penalty, no. Their score hasn't changed, they just take a minus to ability checks. I'm not sure how actual damage or drain would function, but I would rule it didn't affect spells already prepared, only that it would hamper them the next time they prepared.

Assuming, of course, they still had a stat high enough to cast spells of that level.

If the above Wizard 6 had his Int reduced to 12, he couldn't cast any of his level 3 spells, bonus or not.

Yeah, I knew that, that one is actually stated right in the spell description. I was just curious if the shift in bonus spells caused immediate consequences, or like suggested, just the next time you prepare spells.
