Create a table for Environment and Detection

Playtest Reports

While running my home game with Pathfinder I ran into the wall when looking up distance for starting an encounter in the mountains. As I was trying to rush through and find the information a became frustrated because I knew it was there but couldn't find it. Would it be possible to have a table that shows the guidelines for maximum distance and perception DCs? This would make it easier when running and needing to look things up on the fly.

Sovereign Court

Last year I gave up trying to use these stupid initial distance rules. This slows the game for no reason, but I will admit that it balances the game a little, as it gives archers (bowmen/crossbowmen) a chance to shine and use a few rounds worth of shooting before melee erupts. For some random encounters, this can really soften the bad guys and allow a low-level party to defeat a high ECL monster very easily; if the MM entry shows that the monster has both a melee and projectile weapon (for instance, gnolls, who come with battleaxes and shortbows), then you can have a bunch of very low level monsters create a lot of trouble (have 'em entrenched, up a ridge, each with +4 AC due to cover, and with the PCs going uphill or making climb checks to get there... muhahahaha!)
