not really, because of the level of integration between the store and the forums, if they did this th store would look weird. plus they have said that they like it simple, so the those of us reading from work can read it without bosses getting suspicious.

I would imagine that the store and forums are linked at the critical level by the database (although there could be other links, that one would be essential) so I guess you could hack pre-existing forum software to use that database information to achieve whatever you want, including hacking the authentication about. Not that I'm convinced I'd want too much tinkering with authentication, given how many ccs are linked to it.

However, I'm OK with it as it is (although the avatars make it pretty obvious to bosses that it's not work, unless I've missed an option to switch their display off).

If you use firefox, there is an add on you can download called web develper, with allows you to turn off all images

Do you even need that? I used to be able to turn off images in IE, anyhow. But my point was more about the argument that things are as they are to make it easier to browse from work.

However, I don't care if the forums don't change. They are sometimes hard to use in a widescreen monitor with browser maximised, but there's solutions for that (ie, resize browser).

Most corporations (like my own neutral evil masters) require that you use their browser. So I am stuck with IE. There's no "turn off avatars" option there. If there were, I bet that I would browse here more often. Except for the monitoring software. Yeah.

Long live the plain vanilla.

It helps that my job involves checking out other people's websites.

Of my 2c.

This is an excellent site. Readable, non-seizure inducing. Straightforward. Navigable with just enough tricks that new people can't post indiscriminately....

Sweet.

Now this is a good idea. Just turning off the avatars would be really cool.

You realize you can switch that off on your browser, right?

Yeah, I know I can disable images.
