Lovecraftian D&D! Yay!

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I just have to say that I'm loving the way the Cthulhu Mythos are being "kinda" integrated in Golarion. It gives it a feel of Sword & Sorcery old-style, as with Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, and we have a source for high-level bad guys apart from demons and devils.

I hope to see more Lovecraftian stuff in Pathfinder (hopefully in the Bestiary?). Until then, keep on with the good job!

I have to agree. Of course, these guys are doing double duty in my d20 Modern game (a darkmatter/shadow chasers mix). I have recently used the Hounds of Tindalos and they have the party spooked. The party is trying to protect a group of scientist that were experimenting in time travel and the hounds just don't stop.

Lovecraftian surprises shall continue to pop up now and then in Pathfinder products. The next tidbits are gonna show up in "Into the Darklands."

I am doing a little fan project thing, detailing a pub to slot into the wharf district of riddleport which has a very strong dreams of the witch's house feel.

I like Lovecraft, - A Lot-. I actually read 'The Colour Out of Space' when I was around 8 or 9. Scared the bejeezus out of me for weeks. Back in college I actually spent a few years as an admin and builder for Cthulhumud (if anyone remembers MUDs).

But on the other hand, I try not to invoke Lovecraftian stuff blatantly. But the themes of cosmic horror are awesome stuff, and I'll happily use them and Lovecraft and company's atmospheric writing style if possible when looking at various topics. Always with a spin of course if I can manage it. :)

Looking at the past, the influence of Lovecraft makes any game system better. I mean come on fear of the unknown and fighting against hideous bizzare things from beyond. It so does make this game feel like Classic D&D, and 4th edition is more like D&D for kids. LOL
