Damn. that sucks, lastknightleft. you should start leaving unsubtle cues, like always checking the graveyards for recent disturbances, or constantly detecting evil to root out "demon worshippers" or something.

Or order a pizza for your DM with the message "MOR D-MONZ N UNDED PLZ" spelled out in delicious, greasy pepperoni. If your DM likes mushrooms, put those in, too-- they kinda look like skulls. :)

I'm down with some N'wah minis. Nice work.

Considers trying this with the phrase 'Moar Lootz PLZ'

Remember, I'm looking to start small here. Much easier to start with one or two things then expand up, than to jump in hardcore and have to pull back. So if you had to choose, for the time being, between yummy CMR monster-packs, and packs for an AP, which would you go for?

AP, focusing on NPCs and key creatures. But I wouldn't hesitate one second in case of a CMR pack.

Seriously, I'm in for both.

what else do people want to see? A pack of minis for each AP adventure? A big "best of" collection at the end of each AP? "Generic" monster packs? I'm leaning towards packs for each AP adventure; that way, I can provide exactly the number of minis each DM will need in one set, but monster packs also make great sense, especially if people aren't running the Pathfinder APs specifically. Let me know! :)
I think the most urgent requests would be;
  • new monsters appearing in APs & modules for the first time,
  • the specific NPCs from each AP & module,
  • any creature that has been given a 'Golarion facelift', eg the new-look goblins.
  • the rest of the creatures that are unchanged and already generally available as minis.

Are you kidding, I love the plot that my DM is weaving, I'm not a fan of ruining a good plot to go demon hunting. It already seems like he's trying to weave demons into our current storyline and I'll let him. But I'm opposed to suddenly turning my paladin into an undead hunter because it gets me the best mechanical advantage. it's lame and I won't do it. I'll just keep telling Jason so and hopefully he'll fix the ability instead of leaving it weak against anything but undead.

Alright, so looks like AP mini packs, with the focus on new monsters, "Paizo-fied" old monsters, and key NPCs is what you guys are looking for. And, as a Pathfinder AP subscriber myself, I'd be making 'em for my game anyway! :)

I guess that'll be the proposal then. Now here's another question: one big end-of-campaign set, or month-by-month smaller sets? I'd prefer month-by-month myself, but if people want more of a compilation set, I'm all for it.

From where i am sitting the Book by book approach is best, especially if your able to fit in a curve ball or two in that way occationally.

Something like a Mini per book who would make a useful PC image.

Oh definitely month to month, they're cheaper and easier to work with then you can always sell mega packs at the end anyways to get those people who haven't bought the individuals.

But by no doubt month to month. Not just for those of us who have subscriptions though, that is good for someone who wants to just buy a single AP for whatever reason and have the minis for it.

What would also be cool is that you could redraw the iconics for each AP so you had a bunch of different poses for players to choose from.

I just wanted to say that this is actually a pretty cool idea, it would let you flex your creative muscles or even give people on the boards some fanservice like each month you make some board members character into a mini. I bet that would ensure you at least one sale a month :) I would love to see one mini each month that wasn't part of the AP this would also keep players guessing as to who they might not be fighting. That way seeing the minis isn't a spoiler.

Will the minis for large and huge figures also be made cause that would be sweet

Just a random brainstorm;....this would be a great mechanism for cohesive encounter/army building; i.e. packs of 5-10 goblins, 5-10 kobolds, 5-10 lizardmen....

THEN, you could riff on a goblin horde with specially designed officers and cadre; so you could get Miggles Chopgut the 6th level goblin barbarian whose miscreantic raiding is supported by One-Eyed Sheila the 5th level goblin druid; Miggles has a cohort of 6 goblin archers who are 2nd level fighters...
Beats the heck out of using 4 goblins from packs, then saying "okay, this oreo cookie, this rat swarm figure, and this 6-sided die are goblin warriors. This Yoda Star Wars figure is their Ogre chieftan."

That's actually what the example .pdf is looking like. While I haven't done the backside art for it, it's really just a mock-up to show the boys at Paizo what a "finished" product would look like. We took my goblin art, re-scanned it at 600 dpi (the better to print with, my dearies!), added a goblin chieftan, and are working on making print-worthy bits like printable bases, tabs to glue it to the bases, etc. so it's basically eight figures-- four goblin warriors, a commando, a commando on a rat dog, a warchanter, and a chieftan.

So yeah, if it takes off and I end up doing monster packs, it's gonna be something like that. a handful of mooks, some elite-type middlemen, and a leader of sorts, plus possible extra guys (gnoll packs might have hyenas with them, for instance, or lizardfolk with a crocodile).

And yeah, if I'm doing APs, I'm gonna do the Large-Huge-Gargantuan guys whenever possible. They are a pain to get right, and really look best in 3-D, which is even harder (I still have no idea how I got that rune giant to work-- I literally was drawing pieces as I assembled him), but the end result will be super sweet. For instance, I'm getting geared up to try my hand at drawing and assembling the cover baddie(s) from Pathfinder #12 (no names given to avoid spoilerage)-- a to-scale, 3-D dragon-and-mount combo will be an amazing pain, but on the table or as a desk ornament it would just be too awesome.

Thankfully, it's a rare AP that starts the PCs off fighting a Huge monster (even Large is uncommon), so I'll be able to focus on getting the Medium guys right before having to grapple with the big stuff. :)

Mark me down as very interested.
I love maps and minis but:
a) Can't afford to get enough prepainted plastic figs from WOTC, and the random box sets fill me with rage.
b) want figs specific to the APs (since that's what I run)
c) have neither the skill nor the time to paint metal figs.
d) have a bunch of card stock handy :)

Another suggestion that may seem strange at first.

If you are doing AP minis, do not limit yourself to just monsters.

The statue in the final encounter for that module
The evil looking throne where the BBEG sits
Some random furnture that can get tossed around during the bar brawl

You could also do generic dungeon dressing like statues, chests, iron maidens, etc.

I'd thought about doing this, but unless an AP has something really important in it set-dressing-wise ("in <i>Pathfinder #24</i>, the PCs must shut down the Gateway of Gabblebooble to stop the invading hordes of death chickens" or whatnot), I'd probably hold off on mini props until a time seems right to make a "dungeon dressing" set. Plus, I'd have to get better at making 2-D props that look cool and/or 3-D props that assemble right. Somehow I can make a 3-D Demogorgon and have it work, but a treasure chest (which is basically a box) eludes me.

I blame it on exact right angles. :)

Any chance you would include the cover iconic with each set?

Well, the cover iconics now are usually NPCs from the adventure (and important ones at that), so those would amost definitely pop up in the AP sets.

As for the Paizo iconic PCs, I'd be interested in making the whole set sometime. I'd toyed with the idea of doing a seperate set of minis for each PC in the back of the APs (as someone mentioned on this thread previously), but eventually I'd be really sick of drawing a new set of the same four folks every month for six months, then swapping over to whoever popped up in the next AP.

I do like the idea of doing all 12 iconics in their own mini pack-- possibly wrapped together with their 1st-level stat blocks. But that one, if it gets done, would probably be worth holding off on until after PFRPG is released.

At the very least, Merisiel and Seltyiel are available right now. :)

I thought fanservice meant something done just because the fans love it, when did it become a synonym for cartoon porn?

And you have no link lilith so how does your stuff cover fanservice?

Yeah, aside from a goofy "nekkid Merisiel" I did a while back for kicks, I don't do much "fanservice". I leave that to the people with talent for it. I was going to do some doodles for Tsuto's journal before Benchak found Lilith's stuff, though.

I like to think of all my work as a service to the fans, though, so I guess it kinda counts. :P

Just found this thread and have to add my two coppers that t his is a FANTASTIC idea!

Ummmm to voice my personal preferences...

double sided front and back
Black and White for NPCs
A line of Color for PCs.

The BW and Color thing makes it easy to see who is what at a glance at the table. Right now for our metal minis we use black minis for NPCs and painted minis for PCs. It just really makes it fast and easy to see what is happening. BUT with all black metal NPC minis it is hard to tell a goblin from a kobold... so printed ones would be AWESOME!

I think that with the economy the way it is, printed minis are a great way to go. Besides that there is a tremendous amount of versatility possible. If they are made so they can be modified, a GM can add names, numbers, or other descriptive elements for tracking. A GM could color coordinate paper minis to fit into groups or units or just themed. A particular mini could be modified to represent an NPC that reappears frequently, perhaps adding scars or something as indications of previous encounters with the PCs... think how cool that would be if each time you saw that villain he was scarred from a previous encounter so you could see your "handy work."

I have thought about using a 3d program called Poser to create characters and props for our game, but it can get really expensive fast to make them. Since being laid off, I haven't bought anything at all fun (BTW I have an interview tomorrow). This could very well be a way to help out folks in this economy.

Thanks! I agree that for a lot of cash-strapped gamers, it will be a great alternative to pewter/lead/plastic minis. In fact, that's how I started making them for Savage Tide (I'd been making stuff for games for a while before then-- I'd post up some of the stuff from my old D20 Modern game, but I drew heads really wierd back then, so I'm not really excited about showing them off :P). In fact, I mentioned that in an e-mail to Erik Mona a few days ago.

I'm planning on offering the packs in both black and white and in color-- the art enters the computer-tron as B&W lines anyway, so it's not hard for me to provide both (though it essentially doubles the file size). What sort of "line of color" were you thinking of for the PCs? Like an outside border of color?

I've never used Poser, even though IIRC it's a freebie open-source program (like Gimp or whatever), but you should be able to pull the old cut-paste-color job with it. some computers have passable editing software on them when you get it from the store. My roommate's laptop came with Micrografx Picture Publisher, which we were using up until we got Photoshop (Me: "$680?!? for software? It'd better do my laundry for that price!").

Krome (or anybody else interested), check out Daz3D. It's Poser-like, but free. A lot of the content, though, costs money, but you can get quite a few free packs off of their site. I use this program to model out poses for some of my work, but you can do quite a bit more with it than that.
