What do people do when a PC dies in their game? How do you determine a new character's level, etc?
Thanks.
it depends on the level of the dead PC and the capebility\willingness of the others to resurrect him, I guess. if it's a low level death, we make a new PC. I (as a DM) and my player disscus how to weave him into the plot, and than intrduce him when the time comes-that might very well mean that he will not appear in the game during a full seassion. the Pc'c level equells to the one he had before getting himself killed, but without all the XP he had.

Well, right now they're 5th level and about to hit the end of Seven Days to the Grave. If anyone gets it, they won't have the money to spring for a resurrection. And I doubt they would anyway.
Maybe their replacement could be an experimental subject of some sort, and when they free him, the player takes control of this subject, now a new PC?

The general rule I use when I DM, is that the new character is one level below the average party level, about the same as if raised. For abilities I use an array, similar to the elite array, but generated by the players using best of 4d6. The new character uses the same array as the other characters.
How the new character enters the scene is decided by who and what the character is and where the rest of the group happen to be. I tend to not sweat this too much; a wanderer, a prisoner, a rescuer, chance meeting in the tavern, whatever.
