Golarion Arch-Mages’ names for spell list

General Discussion (Prerelease)

As a wink to the tradition of having spells originate from an epic wizard of the setting, PFRPG could have some prefixes for spells that fit the legendary wizards of Golarion.

I’m Thinking of Geb and Nex first, the Runelords (not sure if naming them would be a spoiler) and the Whispering Tyrant (his original name escapes me), even Baba-Yaga.

I’m not even sure this would respect the OGL but it’s fun to look at.

That's actually a neat idea. They did that in the Kalamar Player's Guide, having each of the 'Bigby' spells being created by a particularly 'iron-fisted' chieftan, etc.

Oooh I like the idea, but then doing so requires work Paizo may or may not have done yet (Most likely not, since there aren't Pathfinder novels around as I type this). Each set of spells belongs to a most famous wizard that had a special trait. For example, "Rari's" spells are the resourceful, almost sneaky kind, given how Rari ended up being Greyhawk's top villain... ok, the equivalent here might be Tar-Baphon, and I can see Nex or Geb as the kind of brute-force lovers that would create the "Bigby's" line of spells but, does Golarion have already a Mordekainen/Elminster? Furthermore, do we even WANT Golarion to have one? If you ask me... I wouldn't. Having "the world's most powerful spellcaster alive" is too big a cliche, and is a sure guarantee the player characters will never feel like the heroes they could be because, even when they reached lvl 40, they will always be in their shadow... perhaps if Paizo credited "Mordekainen's" spells to some long-dead Azlanti emperor, perhaps then.

Tar-Baphon sounds like a decent choice. Others include Xin and the Runelords.

Alaznist's Crushed Fist - she's the evoker, after all.

The problem's just that the RPG doesn't necessarily have a connection to Golarion. I don't know whether they want to put those names in the core rules (though I don't think they're as miserly as wizards in that regard)
