Hmmm ... about the only thing I've seen so far that I might consider "fluff" is the Pathfinder Journal. And it is such a wonderful capsulated view of the world and things the players are likely to face, I can't truly count them as fluff.

The rest of the back end is:

The Beastiary, hardly fluff :)
Various articles about the Dieties that figure largest in the AP, the City or locals the players are wandering about it, or some specific rules info on something occuring in the AP, again, hardly a bit of fluff there.

I wouldn't change the format, and thankfully from all I've read, Paizo isn't going to mess with a winner :)

Fluff. In the AP? I can only guess people are talking about the ads at the end, because there's nothing else that could be "fluff" in my copies of the last two APs. They're jam-packed with crunch and flavor. Sometimes sweet, sometimes savory, always delicious flavor. And nobody betta touch my flava.

I took it by what others have said that fluff is referring to anything but the adventure it's self. the monster write ups, god write ups, the journal ect. Least that was the impression I was under and for me that is a big part of why I buy the books is that extra stuff in addition to the actual adventure.

Buying tickets for the following bandwagons:

  • High-Level Supermodule
  • APs starting at higher level (with or without notes on what to run first -- RttToEE didn't say anything about that, IIRC)
  • still having SOME APs start at 1st -- gotta start at ground level sometimes...
  • more high-level regular modules (with the understanding they're harder to write/solicit)

Most of what I've played has been low-level, partly because that's most of what was available, but mostly because few of the games I've played in have had the longevity to make it very high. I enjoy high-level play, but a) don't have time to put together high-level stuff of my own, and b) don't have as much high-level material available.

Yeah.

Spoiler:
Dark Mistress, just my way of leveling a complaint at the term while objecting that this is one of the things I absolutely love about the APs.

The levels for the individual adventures in the Legacy of Fire seem to be much lower (especially in the last few adventures) than the recommended levels for the other APS. Why is that?

Please take my vote for fast, lean, gritty low levels ...

Nothing against high level, except ...
slow combat ?
too many options ...

and the worse sin of them all ...

PCs getting cocky and believing the world is due to them !!!

Gotta teach them some respect with really some good monsters that they don't deserve to keep them in line. that's expensive, man !

So I prefer low levels. :)

We've done a lot of Adventure Paths, and every time, in every case, sales start to drop off once we get up in high level. We also really wanted to offer two adventure paths a year, and since the higher level installments end up being long and complex, we wouldn't be able to do a full 1st to 20th AP twice a year. You can even see the lack of interest in high level play by looking at the playtest forums; the high level play forum is tiny compared to most other forums.

We DO hope to do some high level stuff now and then, though. And one day, hopefully, I'd love to start an AP at, say, 7th level and go to 20th. We'll see...

James, that does not mean that people are not interested in high levels. But when you test a new ruleset, you start at low level (level 1, probably). And it takes a long time to climb high. The playtest hasn’t lasted so long to have a lot of people playing at high level. Not everyone can play very often to raise levels rapidly.

My group takes 9 months to play Curse of the Crimson Throne. The PCs have not yet reached level 10. And it goes up faster in 3.5!

And James, in any collection a lot of people starts to buy and leave before finishing. Sometimes they do not like the product. Others they find that have no time to play. Or they find something else they prefer. Or run out of money. A thousand things...

Add me to the AP high level sequel camp. Id love to see this come true. This said keep the APs as they are (ending at about the 13-15 range), its a winning formula.

Id also like to see an occasional high level from the stand alone module line.

It would be interesting to see a lower level AP 1-15 or so and then, some time later, return to that same setting where the players can use their existing characters to go from 15 to 20+. The next AP could also stand alone as a high level option for those interested in starting at this level range.

My group likes to run long campaigns, and it would be awesome if we could revisit some previous characters.

Hmmm, personally I like variety, give me a good 1-13th level adventure path and follow it up with a 1-16th level adventure path. If I want to make them stretch a little that's not exactly a challenge to someone with some patience and the help of a wonderful happy message board community :) (you know... if I actually did need help...)

Here's another vote for variety...but I'd opt for keeping the richness of the APs (chronicles, set-piece, etc.) even if that means that the level range has to be kept at the low end.

Am i alone in thinking that with the advent of the slow experience tract it would be cool to seen an urban based AP the used it, with most of the antagonists being pc-classed and NPC-classed in a realistic Range for the in habitance of a city.
