Whether you love or hate Terry Goodkind's work the new TV series is on the horizon (Nov 1).

Any thoughts?

I have a friend who has told me about the books and looks forward to seeing this. He has high hopes for it.

The youtube trailers make it look quite good, wikipedia however goes into more detail.

Scarab Sages

It looks "ok", but I don't hold out much hope for it, either because tv being what it is these days it'll get cancelled, or else it will just fade away and be dropped to to low ratings (like the animorphs tv show, which i still enjoy watching). I don't hold out much hope that it'll be just like the book due to concerns that the book plays a lot on adult themes and imagery, which is impossible to show on most channels.

I am however, looking forward to seeing a decent sword and sorcery show again. And the cast looks pretty close to what I pictured in my head. I do wonder how long they plan for it to go for though. it was a rather lengthy series of books...

and I suspect the Imperial Order "troops" will not be as "aggresive" with the lady folk as they are in the books.

well, that would be season three stuff anyway, maybe they'll be on FX by then ;)

Silver Crusade

I wonder if the objectivist rants and moral dissonance will be kept intact.

Sorry for the negativity. Not really a fan...

I think this has a lot of potential. I like the casting so far... anything with Bruce Spence in it can't be all bad.

I hope they have the budget to do justice to it.

We already know they're going to use the novel as a framework and go off on a lot of side treks that weren't in the book.

I'm guessing the Ayn Rand stuff won't be that much in evidence. Terry Goodkind doesn't seem to have much personal involvement in the show outside of promotion. He seems content to let the producers do as they will, within reason.

Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi aren't really a pair I'd associate too much with objectivism. The last TV series they did..."Xena: Warrior Princess"... was motivated by a theme of "personal sacrifice for the greater good." That is, of course, the polar opposite of Rand.

Anyway, Goodkind didn't really start sledgehammering the social philosophy stuff until several books in...around the time of "Faith of the Fallen" and "Naked Empire." It will be several seasons before they get to that point, if ever.
