Just a question about the new Drow (SPOILERS! possibly)

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Hello, and thanks for looking at my first thread. :)

So, in the newest Adventure Path we are introduced to Pathfinder Drow.

Now the creators want to take the critters into a realm of their own and so have changed a few things. So far I LOVE what they're doing. :3

(Possible SPOILER! Alert)

Now, the whole Drow are Elves who's EVIL has turned them into dark skinned psychopaths I don't actually have a problem with. The whole Good fey turning evil and physically changing I don't mind.

Here's my point question:

What happens about going the other way?

Have I jumped the gun and at the end of the adventure almost all of the affected, former Elves now Drow shall be redeemed by the actions of the players?

Or is it something that's lurking in the back of the minds of the creators?

Surely if an Elf can be so consumed by evil that they 'shift' onto Drow, then the revers is true and Drow who either get redeemed or are just not 'nasty' enough change back into Elves?

It's just a random kind of thought that struck me as I was reading the back ground stuff in the first book of the adventure.

Any feed back, ideas welcome. :D

Cheers!

Keep in mind- I've not read anything about pathfinder drow :)

I would think in general that it isn't a choice each elf makes, so much as it is a direction the race as a whole has gone. If that is the case- then any one member "going good" wouldn't actually change their race. It would just change his/her alignment.

(just like a "good elf" with an evil alignment wouldn't suddenly change skin tone and whatnot.. I assume, anyway..)

If I'm not mistaken, it's much deeper than a simple alignment change. Also, i believe it has something to do with an event that is explained in the Second Darkness AP. I'll have to re-read it when I get home.

There'll be a little more information on...

Spoiler:
... the methods and reasons elves turn into drow presented in a sidebar in Pathfinder #17, but the change itself is one-way. There's certainly more to it than simple alignment, otherwise there'd be no evil elves; they'd all be drow. To this point in Golarion's history, there are no documented occurrences of the reversal—of a drow becoming good and reverting back to an elf. If there ARE good drow in Golarion, they remain drow; they don't change back. It's pretty much a one-way street. In any case, there won't be any good-aligned drow NPCs in Second Darkness (there's only one non-evil one, in fact, that I know of, and he's chaotic neutral) in any case.

You know, with my brother basing his entire campaign on Drow of the Underdark and Fiendish Codex I (great work on that BTW guys), and his long-time obsession with drow, I was getting pretty sick of them until I subscribed at the beginning of Second Darkness. It's inspiring, and truly wonderful. I will actually enjoy DMing this AP. Thanks Paizo for being so awesome. I can't wait to see the bit about...

Thanks to evrey one who replied! *waves*

Hmm, looks like I'll have to eagerly await the next book/chapter/installment for more Drow goodies..um..I mean baddies, *frown* whatever! :3

Though it does seem a bit odd that 'Good Elves' can shift over into 'Evil Drow' but the same sort of "punishment" doesn't exist going in the other direction. T'is odd, me thinks.*shrug*

Again, thank you and best wishes! :)

Cheers!

welcome to the boards

Welcome to the boards!

BTW, since it's a feature that not all message boards have, I figured I'd mention that the Paizo boards actually have a spoiler tag (just leave out the spaces inside the [brackets]:

[ spoiler ] Stuff you don't want others to see [ /spoiler ]

Then it does that cool collapsible spoiler button thing like what James used. If there's any other features you'd like to know how to use, click the SHOW button below the new post box (it's labelled "BBCode tags you can use") and that will show you how to do different tricks. :)

The drow transformation works because the proto-drow were exposed to strange underground radiations and echos of the Rough Beast's will. There is no counter-force of surface power, or a deity imprisoned on the surface sending out echoes of its thoughts, to dispel the evil curse, so it only works one way. At least, that's my theory. Maybe the reverse does work, but those unfortunate enough to undergo it are killed by their former brethren. Or maybe no one survives being a good drow long enough to get to the point where the transformation would be reversed.
