Ok, gods, someone had to start it. I sat through the first episode last night, in the same way one watches a train wreck.

How did I loathe thee? Let me count the ways.

  • KITT is a transformer now. Come on, if he can turn from sports car to muscle car to truck, how long before he can become a frakking battlemech?

  • "Divert all power from unneeded systems" vs "If you open the window, you're going to die." Um, the power windows are an essential system? KITT is unable to control his windows?

  • Michael's martial arts abilities work at the speed of plot. He takes out two goons holding him in one case, and then gets taken down easily by one guy.

  • "Fortunately I keep an arc welder in my hair, for just such an emergency."

  • Vast Conspiracies. I remember Knight Rider. I remember when there were few overaching plots, it was one man (and his team) making a difference. Now we have Michael Target/Knight as superspy ex-special forces, James Bond, with half his team goign to turn out to plot against him. *yawn*

    What did I like?

"My father's name was Michael Long." Yes, small detail I can savour.

I don't know if Vel Kilmer is still voicing KITT, but I like the deadpan humour of the car.

Oh, and the Asian woman is hot.

  • For my part, I didn't like how the story rolled out. The first part was all action, spy-thriller type stuff. Then we descended into secrets and conspiracies. In the first half, Sarah was our programmer and competent female spy; she was our love interest in the 2nd half.

I too didn't care for KITT the transformer.

I think of the characters, I liked Sarah's father the most-to me, he was the most realistic.

"No, there's no override, that would defeat the point of artificial intelligence."

FBI people didn't do it for me.

    Asian translator:definitely hot.

    Michael: whatever.

I agree 100% with these two sentiments.

What turns me off to this show is the fact that it appears to be nothing more than a thinly-veiled car commercial.

KITT transforms into other cars - all made by the same car company - oh, and be sure to have a close-up on the company logo every five minutes so that the audience doesn't forget who's the sponsor.

For what it's worth, I liked the whole amnesia and conspiracy angle. It seems to fit the show to me. I wish they had been able to convince William Daniels to come back and voice KITT though. All in all, it's better than any of the other spinoffs and remakes they have had.

If it's done well, the conspiracy theories are nice. They're just getting old.

Maybe I'm pining for a simpler time, but teh original series had plenty of evil at a local level. The Knight Foundation was a charitable foundation IIRC. I just think "The Hero's allies are plotting against the hero." is old and cliche

  • This has to be one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to television and movies. abilities that either come from nowhere right when it's conveniant, or abilities that stop working for no reason whatsoever. Gah!

on a side note, I never watched the original series (though like every geek I know enough to get the jokes), and I didn't even know this started yet. based on what people are saying here, it's prolly as good thing I didn't.

Watched it for about 10 minutes then the comercials came on. I then changed the channel to an old Mythbusters episode and watched that instead. That's all I have to say about the new Knight Rider.

I'd actually watch it at this point, as long as the Clan comes down and sends all to a fiery death. :)

HA! Given that I've recently started planning a Battletech campaign for a friend, I get that. funny stuff, and something I would want to see. also, Transformers versus the Clans would be f-in sweet!

Well, if the Clans aren't coming, maybe Megatron can step on the humans' would-be Transformer?

Didn't something along those lines happen in the new "All Hail Megatron" comic series? I mean, it was more just cars, trucks and tanks, but it works. also, people die. and carnage happens. WOO! one of my favorite new series.

I do not think this show will last long. You need more than eye-candy and fight choreography to make a successful show. And can the love-plot go any more spasmodically hot/cold?

Missed that one. Need to find it, just to give my eyes something better to do than watch this show. I'm with the poodle on the romance too: hot/cold that much in one episode? OK, whatever.

Maybe he rolled a 1 in that second fight.

I didn't watch the first episode, but I watched the pilot when it came out. So. Many. Commercials.

All I can say is: I'd re-watch Season 3: "Junkyard Dog" on my DVDs, reliving deep childhood trauma, rather than sit through an episode of the new show.

Wow...a guy with Onstar. What a concept for a show.

And a Touch-Screen HUD? They couldn't do voice-activated, eye-motion, or even mental control?

Seems like the new KITT would be futuristic for around 1995.

KITT is an American made car afterall.

  • Apparently the answer is until last week. However, it was not KITT but KARR. I liked the fact that they brough Peter Cullen back as KARR's voice, and honestly I ended up likeing the idea that KARR can transformer into a killer robot. However, I found the ending very anti-climactic since we got to see so little of KARR's true capabilities.

Torres: I am Alex Torres, you take orders from me.

KARR: I only take orders from my creator.

Torres: He's dead, I'm next in the chain of command so now you take orders from me.

KARR: You're analysis is correct. I take orders from you. [grabs Torres and jams him into the operator compartment.] Therefore You and I must join, [slaps nerohelmet on Torres] and I give the orders.

    Best freaking scene ever.

    Scarab Sages

Okay, they brought back Cullen/KARR. That makes me want to watch it now.
