DMs have had to kick people out of games before for a wide variety of reasons, and excessive character optimization- when mixed with boorish behavior- is one such reason.
So because SOME people are boors, and utilize optimized characters, we should suppress character optimization? I'll echo what concerro said - most players are not like this.

Actually I never said Character Optimizers should be surpressed, just that I was not in favor of the practice, as I consider it a losing proposition. A thread for Character Optimization would be a boon.

Furthermore, what do you, and concerro, believe should be done in this case? Is it wrong to kick someone out of a game for over optimization and boorish behavior? Is it surpression when the DM vetos something that someone can do according to the rules? Or for that matter, is it okay when characters are killed because they AREN'T optimized? Or when an optimized character is killed by a novel monster created simply to kiling the character? There is another side to this debate that is being missed, I think.

Alright, first off, should somebody be kicked out for boorish behavior? Oh heck yeah. If somebody refuses to cooperate and are acting like jerks, as much as you might not want to, for the sake of the group of the whole you have to give them the axe. (And I don't mean hand one to them lol)

Secondly, you have two choices if somebody 'over-optimizes' so to speak. A: You can have a chat with them off to the side and tell them that they are overpowering the group's expectation of play, or B: you can optimize right back.

Remember, your the GM, anything they can use, and probably some things they can't, are all within your grasp.

Heck, about 80% of hardcore optimized builds generate noteworthy weaknesses (Saves, low HP/AC, something) in their quest for power. Take advantage of that.

Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I have no problem with my players knowing exactly how the game works and what happens how. To me it just enhances the strategy of the game.

To me, it's not me vs the players, however, when they are engaged in their adventures, it IS, the world vs the PC's, and I only pull my punches just enough that they aren't guaranteed to die, they have to earn their survival. The better they are, the better I can allow myself to be.

What you say is true.

Why thank you.

What you say is also true, emphasis in bold being mine.

I recently went to GenCon Oz.
There we had an interview with Jason.
I was able to record said interview but I was not able to record all of it as I had done some happy snaping with my camera which chew the batteries.

Anyway I asked on your guys behalf if there was going to be and character op boards.
Anyway after a long answer it boiled down to this.

NO

what he said was something along the lines of this I can not remember everything but it went something like this.

"If you ask how to improve your character you will get plenty of feedback on the fourms, in my experince character opimization fourms just tend to come down to people arguing over how there build is better.

I would like to foster? a friendly eviroment on the fourms"

I think it went something like that I can not remember every little detail but something like that.
Sorry if you wanted one but it doesn't look like it going to happen.

I think that's a copout, assuming its true*. People argue about everything online. With that said, we may just have to make a thread on Enworld since a PhP board is better for making handbooks, and just linking to it from here.

Many of the 3.5 handbooks are still at least 90% valid, so they would only need to be reworked. I would like to do one for the druid, but time is tight.

*Caladors I only put that in there because when I get 2nd hand info its normally incorrect or at best incomplete.

If you want to try and ask Jason go ahead but I did.
Like i said my batteries ran out.

Put me in as a big fat NO.

I am not going to check. I just wish they would say no on the boards. Yeah, people will complain, but people will complain anyway. At least if they say no officially we can look for an alternative.

I wouldn't mind a CharOp type board. To everyone saying it takes options away and kills roleplaying; it doesn't. If you don't like it - don't go there.

It wasn't that it was that he was basicly saying that character optimization fosters bad spirit.

You can choose to not eat rotten apples but they still stink up the joint why not, never have them there.

No thanks, last thing I want is my "recent post" box filled with roleplayers vs. rollplayers flames.

Whereas I just utterly ADORE having my "Recent Posts" box filled with such gems as:

"Forums are Way Too Long!!!"
"Raise of the Poodle Lords"
"The Slaad Thread"

Of course, I'm not advocating removal of the Off-Topic forum. Personally, I can get over the fact that things I don't want to read are more popular than things I do want to read.

The unacceptable behaviour you describe is already disallowed. If that behaviour arrives here, it can be handled in the exact same way.

You can collapse the off-topic forum (or any other forum) on the main messageboards page by clicking the triangle next to the forum name, and that will remove those threads from the recent posts box.

WooT! Thanks for that info Gary I did not know about that.
