Heathy, Mike, let's be honest: if the national championship game isn't the big 12 champs vs. the SEC champs, the NCAA is doing it wrong.

i'll say it: other than the Big 12 and the SEC, there are NO conferences in college football that should even matter ;)

What worries me is that Penn State could sneak in because the Big 10 isn't that good. I hope Wisconsin or Ohio State can beat them so that we can have a real national championship.

yeah, i'd hate to see LSU or UT destroy Joe Pa in the big game, wouldn't be right ;)

i was at work, so i didn't see it (listened on the radio), but i have it recorded, so i'll watch tonight. but nothing to beat how bad OU was hosed in oregon a couple years ago...

My wife went to OU, and she wasn't that impressed with OU's performance. I don't think any of the crap calls were game breaking, or if they were, eff it; cos OU didn't show out as #1 should show out.

Scarab Sages

Well, so much for LSU. Honestly, I didn't really expect them to win tonight. They've had problems on both offense and defense that were just waiting for a good enough team to take advantage of. Now they still have Georgia and Alabama to face, and if Florida could do this to them, I hate to think of those other games.

From the way things are going in the SEC, it looks like the team to beat for the National Championship will either be Alabama or Florida. My money will probably be on Bama.

Liberty's Edge

It depends.
The game tonight was the hottest Florida has been all year. If we come at Alabama hot we'll smoke them. We'll smoke anybody in college football. If we're tepid,....meh.
I'm worried about Georgia, though. I hope we come heavy for that one, like this one here.
I was worried about this one. We've been delivering the goods half assed of late.

i guess the only other good conference doesn't rate, eh? HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!

that would be the #1 longhorns, that is ;)

I don't think the Gators are contenders. We lost to unranked Ole Miss. Ergo, a lot of other guys have to lose to an unranked for us to get up there.
Looks like it might be Texas' year before it's the Gators' year.

nice win over LSU tonight, though. was watching it with a bunch of UGA fans at Griff's. SEC fans be nutz!

Oh yeah. When Stoops came to OU, he thought he was effing up the first few games because the stadium was so quiet.

He was used to the Swamp, which sounds like the inside of a jet engine.

Them ugga's is my mortal foes. I took them as a favored enemy. ;)

Looks like BYU's gotta lose two, and they don't have anybody left to play, and USC's gotta lose one more, and they don't have anybody left to play either. Texas, on the other hand, looks like they have a good game or two left.

three or four, actually. we still have mizzou, okla st, tech, and kansas, iirc...

Scarab Sages

Congrats to the Gators! They really kicked the crap out of LSU. Looks like the Tigers have a lot of work to do before they can get back to the top.

Liberty's Edge

Well, were #5 on the AP, so maybe we have a chance. At least we can win some games and it'll mean something.

i didn't see the game (playing RotRL with the group), just the highlights. double $(&)*$*#&@&@ for the cowboys if they lost AND got all the calls!

At the beginning of the season, I thought they had a good chance to go undefeated if they could stay healthy. Now, I doubt they will make the playoffs.

I tend to be all gloom and doom, so maybe I am overreacting. They just have not played as well as they should have considering the talent they have.

Well, at 4-2 I wouldn't say that they are hurting. Just be grateful that you're not a Rams fan like I am. We beat Washington yesterday but I have feeling that might be our only highlight of the season.

Or a Lions fan. They finally got close to a win and still couldn't close the deal.

So the bi-polar Panthers swing back again. After clubbing Kansas City like a baby seal, they get their butts handed to them by Tampa Bay. *Sigh*

It was kinda like three or four seasons ago when Jeff Garcia was the top QB in the league and the Niner's had the worst record in the league.

No.

I'm not.

I'm glad I haven't done any betting this season... with all the strange upsets already nothing is safe any more.
Weird, weird season (yet also thrilling when some of my least favourable teams get their collective behinds handed to them).
Also, the Chargers/Patriots game is hereafter classified as an unmentionable game. Comprende?!?

Wow, looks like another upset tonight with the Giants.

Liberty's Edge

My apologies to Aberzombie and any other Saints fans out there. The Panthers are like 40K Orks this season, and the dice fell their way today.

That being said, I'd like to see another run at the Super Bowl, but I'm not confident that it's going to happen...yet.

GO PANTHERS!! (please?)

Cuchulainn wrote:

Meh, I gave up on the Saint a long time ago. And since I never really get to watch their games, it doesn't really bother me. These days I'm more of a college ball guy. LSU is almost always on, and even though they probably won't be winning a National Championship this year, they should still make it to (and win) a bowl game.

I still pay attention to the scores of the Saints games, but only because I'm on my aunt's football pool and might be winning some cash with each quarter of the game. No luck yet though.

Good God! After clawing their way back to .500 after an 0-3 start by beating UCF, Southern Miss and Tulane, the Miners got their asses handed to them on a huge platter. 77-35 by Tulsa? That's a basketball score. I hope they can still salvage a somewhat respectable season.

Okay I knew it was going to be bad going in, because Tulsa had the nation's #1 offense and the Miners had the nation's #98 defense....but 77 points? Yeck! Even Texas only scored 42 points on them ;)

Congrats Heathy! They seem to be proving to be a force in football this year. Which is good, because as long as they keep winning, Tebow won't cry. I hate to see a grown man cry.

ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was probably my last in-person game of the season. Everything else that the Gators accomplish the rest of the season is gravy to me. Beating Georgia like that - running their fans out of the Gatorbowl BEFORE the start of the fourth quarter - that is all I really wanted for Christmas.

Man, I walked outside, my neighbor was like "how are your Gators doing? Is it over?"

I said, "it's still on but it's over. 49-3."

He said, "wait, they're playing Georgia? 49-3? Did I hear you right?"

Oh, man...

When Obama wins on Tuesday, I'll still be happy. ;)

You know, I'm supposed to pull for Bama for the rest of the year to maximize Florida's chance to play for the NC, but I just can't bring myself to cheer for a Saban coached football team. As a fins fan, screw Bama. Geaux Tigers.

I think it'll be Texas and Penn State this year in the Rose Bowl.

Heathansson wrote:

I could be wrong, but I don't think that can happen by the BCS rules. I think the only way the Rose Bowl steals the big game is if the Pac-10 and Big 10 champs are Nos. 1 & 2. If Texas made the game, I think it would be in Miami.

So you're thinking that Florida wins out, but Bama has already lost so that beating them doesn't help us vault over Texas? Either that, or Bama loses before the SEC champ game but then beats us in Atlanta. TT loses and drops out. Those scenarios sound pretty plausible to me.

I'm predicting Penn St. vs UF.

As an aside, I've heard from folks I know who are 'close to the program' that Tebow has already decided to leave next year. I think he graduates before the start of next season, and he and his family have decided to grab the NFL paycheck while he's able. They like the thought of what they could do in their missionary work with that kind of jack.

Scarab Sages

Luke wrote:

I'd say that's a pretty good possibility: Bama goes to #1 until the SEC Championship. Florida crushes Bama in that game, which vaults the Gators over Texas. Texas Tech loses along the way, dropping them down. Penn State wins out on the remainder of their schedule. National Championship goes to Florida after they humiliate Penn State. Tebow cries like a b!+*! anyway.

Liberty's Edge

I figure:

Penn St. aint gonna lose; their sched is butter.
We'll beat bama if we bring it.
We'll prolly lose to either vandy or so carolina.
Tex Tech will lose to one of the Oklahomas, if not both.
That'll leave Tex and Penn St; I hope Penn St's weak schedule bites them in the ass though; I hope you're right.
I just anticipate another Miss before the year is over.

Yep. Been there and done that. Watch the old ball coach come in and spoil our party. And if we do win the NC, Tebow will cry like a man, not like a b~$#&.

Wow, you really think Vandy or So Cal can beat Florida? I don't know man. After the way the Gators whupped LSU and Georgia, I'd think they won't have trouble with anybody.
