A step backwards? (Void Domain)

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

James i must say that i really like the concept of Groetus and the Void Domain... while i know there is some opposition to the new domains...

does this mean that the Domains in Pathfinder RPG are going to step back to 3.5?

or just that Gods and Magic is coming in 3.5, and all the domains are the old ones?

Everything is going to be 3.5 until PathfinderRPG comes out next August.

Liberty's Edge

duh! thanks i forgot that :P

well iwill getthe book and twink it to the new domains...

James, please pretty please... could you give us input in how that domain would work with the new domains, what would be the powers?

Here I was thinking that Groetus was a good canditate for the mind domain, the only SRD domain so far not represented in Pathfinder.

Guess I'll keep waiting. :D

Maybe they're saving that until they do some kind of psionics supplement for Golarion?

The bonus spells are easy -- they're just the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level spells from the domain. The only issue is the 1st and 8th level bonus powers.

mmmm so this makes me wonder...

All these books coming out before Pathfinder is released... all of them using 3.5... so does this mean that these books will be rereleased later under Pathfinder and we will need to buy them all over again?

Why would they need to rerelease them if Pathfinder RPG is backwards compatible with 3.5?

Well, some of the "Traits" modify skills that will no longer exist (Gather Information for instance).

Mage Schools and Cleric Domains would need rebuild (this new Void domain for example).

And, of course, the new feats and class modifications from the Pathfinder Campaign setting will need redesigned.

Maybe, but the domain itself isn't psionic. It just happens that it was presented in the psionics book. Lots of non-psionic feats were in that book, as a related example, and there's not reason not to use them in a non-psionic campaign (eg cloak dance, greater manyshot, open minded, etc). This is just one more clerical domain, but it happens to be related to the mind instead of to fire or death or whatever.

good point i suppose i was just lazy andwanted something akin to official response

but yes, the spells woudl be easily taken from the domain list already put in the blog... and as you say... the more interestring thing to see would be the powers

for the rewriting of the domain it surelly will come in the Pathfinder RPG so i don't think we reallyneed another supplement for Gods and Magic in a while (ok a conversion of a few things would be nice)

also msot skills and traits are already converted so its justa bit of twinking

and to this time i don'tremmeber any non-BSMD god giving any bonuses in "use rope"

None of these things listed are problematic enough to warrant the reissuing a book. Web Enhancement... maybe.

We've been trying to be careful with the type of crunch we've been putting into our products, actually, so that the majority of it will be compatible with Pathfinder RPG going forward. The domains are one of the things that are quite likely to change, of course, but things like spells and magic items should be relatively unharmed, and thus usable, when we switch systems.

The goal is to have books like Gods and Magic, Into the Darklands, and Guide to Korvosa be relatively unharmed by the transition, in any case.

Groetus isn't really into mental stuff, in any event. Not that I'd realized the mind domain WAS in the SRD, of course; being hidden away in the psionics section like that.

As for how the Void domain might look in the Pathfinder RPG... I've got no official stance on that yet. Perhaps I'll revisit it in a few months once the playtest has moved on to domains, though?
