Duhwoo, who has been reaching into one of the pools with his falchion to pick away at the faux gems of the cockatrice mosaic there (with his tongue sticking out to the side, as hillbillies tend to do when engaged in elaborate activities), leaps up and runs over to the east wall.

"Where? Where's th' door?!? How come we dinna seen it b'fore!?! Do I needta smash sumpthin'?"

You will be making a whole lot of fort saves if you plan on doing that. Interaction with them (there is a mosaic in each pool) triggers the trap.

so a new save is required for each swing? if that is the case, Duhwoo will definitely need a Stone to Flesh or Break Enchantment, since he's too stupid to get it -- and he's determined to destroy a mosaic, so he'll smash away at the one in the Northeast pool until he fails his save...

that didn't take long!

If the Fort save is good for a while after initial interaction, then the mosaic in the northeast pool should be pretty messed up, after 5 minutes or so of destructive effort...

since we found the secret door within 10 minutes, I imagine Duhwoo will only be interacting with the northeast pool -- he would tend to spend 15-20 minutes on each mosiac if not interrupted. (unless one can be destroyed in a few minutes...can the mosaics be destroyed at all?)

(BTW, Duhwoo doesn't believe the mosaic in the northwest pool is a problem, since the horse didn't turn to stone in that one...)

There is a slot at the base of the statue which appears to be of the correct size to have a sword inserted.
