Making New Gods

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I was wondering if anyone out there is making up any gods
to use in the Pathfinder game. I have a idea or two.
Anyone else ?

I may well be "converting" some of my own for PF uses. I say "converting" mainly because I never took the time to stat them up, merely listing alignment, class/level, divine status and portfolio.

Yes. I've done a first write-up for the Motherland Campaign Setting at www.3point75.org.

(There are also some Klingon deities for the WARP20 fan project based on PRPG)
It's a complete pantheon which uses PRPG rules only.
Contributions are most appreciated

I have a few Deities made up. But I, unfortunatlly, don't work for Paizo. I am gonna run a Pathfinder (my first- with the Beta) game online. I'll use the core Pathfinder deities and integrate a few others. Mostly non-human worshiped dieties: Denevyn The Traitor (elf), Vladruf (ninjas, assassins, fausts), Blackpaw the Everhunting (catpeople, rangers, wanderers)exc.
I like some of their deity ideas. But...Drow without Lloth just don't feel right. Orcs without Gruumsh (lesser extendt then Lloth) doesn't seem right either.
I also like Pelor and Bane. But they won't be in Pathfinder either. Too bad they can't use Eilistraee since 4e had her killed in the Realms. She was cool. I'd have her as Goddess of Song and Dance. Bards.
As a DM, I guess we can have whomever we want. But, yeah, it's not really the same. Not the 'official deities' . Just like with core races from PHBs. You could have a Savage Races thing, but it's not the same.

Scarab Sages

I'm adding some minor local and household gods to flesh out pantheons for each cultural area (Cheliax, Mamoth Lords, Osirion, etc.). The ones I added so far are mostly for the Osirion cultural area.

Umbraxas, The Scarab - pushs the sun across the sky
Nos-Ka-Sut, god with two heads watches over a homes health and prosperity and others.

All of what I'm adding is flavor only though.

Oh, that's awesome! Not at all a pastiche of an Egyptian god like Ra or Set, but very in keeping with the feel! A creature that attempts to swallow the sun and plunge the world into darkness (like Apep/Apophis) would be neat, although, to mix it up, perhaps it should be a black-winged vulture instead of a snake.

I'm a huge fan of Sobek (a Druid with a Crocodile companion would be evocative as all heck), but he doesn't really feel appropriate for Golarion.

With the scarab being Osirion's symbol it deserved to be a god.

I did have some idea's for something Sobek like for the Muwangi area.

Grand Lodge

I have been adding gods to Osirion as well.

Sutah, is the ancient deity of the desert and chaos. This is Set
Sebek, is the ancient deity of crocodiles, floods and chaos. This is Sobek
Usat, is the ancient goddess of fertility and magic. This is Isis
Harun, is an ancient god of the sun and war. This is Horus.
Ausar, is an ancient god of the underworld and death. This is Osiris.
Khepri, is an ancient deity of creation and the sun. This is Khepra.

All of these names are closer in line to how we believe the Egyptians pronounced the names. In my home brew world Ausar gave his name to the egyptian land, Ausyria, and the people were Ausirions. Phonetically very close to Osirion.

I do not use the animal headed humans version of the deities. Rather that animal is their chosen animal and symbol of their religion. Ancient Osirions believed it sacrilege to depict a deity, as they we unable to capture the true divine nature, so often depicted them as humans with the faces or traits of the chosen animal as a symbol of the deity. They never intended anyone to believe that Usat actually had a cow's head.

Also, I have split the ancients into two ethnic groups. The Osirions, city dwellers and monument makers, who were inspired and followed Nethys, and the nomadic Kurma (from Kerma- the predessors to the Kush) worshiped the ancient deities I listed above and many more in a very complex evolving religion. The Kurma still live in nomadic tribes centered around many Oases in the desert (which follows an ancient underground river Nyl).

I also have dwarven forts at the Oases where the dwarven legionnaires secure the precious water and hold influence over the surrounding areas and the trade.

I have begun writing a 3.x (someday 3.P) adventure set in an Egyptian-like setting. I am trying to capture the feel of the Mummy movies, Pulp books, and Indiana Jones style adventuring.

For what it's worth, I always knew the scarab god as Khepri, so no need for a name-change there! :)

Liberty's Edge

I came up with a god for the lupins.
Acturally I came up with a number but this one is
the leader of the Lupin Gods.

Simgar.
Greater God.
Symbol: Battle Axe in front of a Shield.
Home Plane: Brightwater.
Alignment: Lawful Good.
Portfolio: Lupins, Loyalty,
Protection, Family, Community.
Worshipers: Lupins.
Cleric Alignments: LG, LN, NG.
Domains:
Favorted Weapon: "Warwolf" Battle Axe.

Any Feedback or ideas would be helpful.
Be Honest. I can take it.

We Lupins are very easy going. :)

I like this idea. Yay for lupins in Golarion! ARROOO -- ahem.

Do you have a writeup as yet for the Golarion version of the lupin race?

I evolved the Greek pantheon with a little additions-- The Infinite Aspects of Zeus, Apollo-el is a mix of Pelor and Kal-El, Eris from the Principia Discordia, mix of Nemesis and Artemis, with a little Batman thrown in, and looking at a Hulk/Gruumsh/Ares mix, borrowed Loki the Trickster, the followers of Charon became the flagellating, strict types where "paying the ferryman" meant a high suffering price for salvation.. and replaced the Elder Gods with the usual Lovecraftian pathos.

Bottom line, you can take traditional pantheons, and mix in a little inspiration from fiction/comic books, and get interesting results!

Scarab Sages

I'll prolly be lifting your Osirion deities, very nice...

I guess I took the easy route. I loved the 3/3.5 gods of the Forgotten Realms and thought they were perfect before 4th killed them all. In Pathfinder we just incorporated the FR deities into the PFRPG and it seems to work out great. Thats the nice thing about being DM you can take what you like and leave the rest.
