Pathfinder Society Faction Questions

I've a few questions about how factions will work- this information may have come up before, but I've not seen it in the blogs or otherwise.

-Is your character's faction affiliation openly known, or is it secret (within the context of the adventure/scenario)?
-Are parties going to be made up of members of the same faction, or is faction association irrelevant (as it relates to party composition)?

I can address the second after reading the Pathfinder Society Guide. Parties will be mixed. Players are expected to "play nice" but will be given at least one opportunity to forward the goals of their faction by completing some kind of goal (preventing somebody from dying, stealing a letter from somebody the entire party is after, etc.).

Sorry about that- I must have missed it. Thanks!

As for the first question, I recall from one of the chats that while your faction is not de facto open, neither are you forced to keep it secret. Some choices are more obvious than others. A priest of Asmodeus is PROBABLY Chelish, and a Bardic dandy has a better than average chance of being a Taldan.

What they said.

Pay close attention to the rules of the in-game Pathfinder Society, though. Explore, Report, and Cooperate. Regardless of faction, those guidelines must be followed in order to be a Pathfinder on Golarion.

To follow up with this, it's worth noting that paying attention to the mechanics of your fellow tablemates might well reveal their allegiances whether they wish to make them known or not. The faction bonus feats are both a blessing and a weakness, as a result; if you finish off an opponent, for instance, and then ask its Hit Dice so you know how many temporary hit points you have, then there will be little doubt of your allegiance no matter what else you might have tried to do to keep it secret, at least in terms of player knowledge.

In the end, of course, it shouldn't matter too much - Pathfinder Society rules say to keep out of each other's way unless you're actually trying to help.
