1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have to give a shout out for Planescape Torment. There are so many PC games that I love, but they are all topped by this classic. In my view, it transcends (pardon the pun for those who know) PC gaming and is more akin to a playable piece of literature that rivals any famous author I can think of.

Liberty's Edge

My choices have been reflected here pretty well already but here is my list:

1 Baldur's Gate series (in particular 2 Shadows of Amn).
2. Xcom UFO defense (simply an awesome game).
3. Mass Effect series (the best space rpg out there).
4. FF VII (my first true rpg fandom).
5. Master of Orion II (the variations were mind bending).

There are a lot of honorable mentions: Dragon Age, Planescape, Diablo, Starcraft, Age of Mythology, Neverwinter Nights, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.

Dark Archive

Battlefield 2142 - man I spent so much time on this game and I'd still be playing it if the severs hadn't dried up. That was my game - ranked 3rd in the world with the Ganz LMG (2nd in the US) when I stopped playing. This was also the last true "PC only" shooter, before consoles took over and made PC shooters just port overs (and garbage).

After that I would def say Baldur's F'ing Gate/Icewind dale series. I can't wait for the release of Baldur's Gate Enhanced, I didn't even give second thought about Diablo III when I heard this was coming out.

Fallout 3/New Vegas - while buggy they have shown tremendous strength on replay after being modded.

Rollercoaster Tycoon is probably one of the few games I can play with my fiancé. She can be playing and I can help out (with planning, building coasters, etc) and we can switch. Overall an immensely enjoyable game that puts me in a very good mood (vs. all the above which have me screaming obscenities at my monitor).

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'm going to say favorites by genre:

Adventure: The Secret of Monkey Island (although anything out of the old Lucasarts library is cool.

Classic Platformer: The Super Mario Bros.

3D platformer: The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time series (evocative stories and poetic movement)

Action: Spider-Man 2 (The PS2 movie tie in, an awesome superhero sandbox.)

CRPG: Baldur's Gate series, (awesome story, amazing NPCs)

Console RPG: Mass Effect Trilogy ('nuff said)

J-RPG: Final Fantasy III or VI depending on your counting.

Racer: Mario Kart

Single Player Shooter: Duck Hunt

Multiplayer Shooter: Golden Eye 64

Puzzler: Professor Layton series.

Horror: Slender (check it out it's free)

Grand Lodge

I would say two years is a Resurrection. Raise Dead would not have worked with this thread. :)

Favorite Games?

PC Strategy: Tie - Civilization II and Masters of Magic
PC RPG - Balders Gate II
Console (Xbox 360) RPG - Skyrim, Honorable Mention - Dragon Age

Lots of great games mentioned in here. A couple that might have been mentioned, but I didn't notice:

Planetside (2 is coming out soon!)
TIE Fighter (I liked the control scheme better, ignore the OP TIE Defender)
Tenchu (the first one, series declined after)
Soul Blade (we'd play until 3-4 AM after D&D passing the controllers around)
