GM Lari |
After a moment of conferring with one another, whispering in a dozen different tongues in hushed tones, the motley army commanders roar their approval and immediately begin moving their forces through the gateway, spreading throughout Skyreach, and sneaking across the Grand Lodge’s grounds to cause mischief.
The green dragon turns to you and Wolona, the Aspis agent from within the tapestry. He gestures to the woman with a claw.
"This one says you will kill the mage who contained us in there. The mage with all the books. I will join you and kill him and take the books!"
Wolona interjects, "Whoa! Hold on Gazwyr! You have your own assignments." After a moment's thought, she adds, "If one of you wants to join me and take over his tasks, I won't object to Gazwyr joining you."
If anyone wishes, you can swap out your character for the green dragon Gazwyr. If multiple people are interested in doing so, I'll let the dice decide. If your current character hasn't yet accomplished all of their goals, you may wish to delegate those to someone else. if you feel you can trust them to accomplish it.
Ietsuna Shohiraj |
Turning to her group Shohiraj speaks I will remain with the 5 of you. I suspect you may need my expertise to enter and obtain the Sky Key.
GM Lari |
Getting in quietly referred primarily to everything up until now, making sure that the alarm wasn't raised too early. At this point, the trigger is being pulled on the operation. The Tapestry army and other Aspis teams will be killing Pathfinders and keeping the lodge busy, in large part to keep people busy while you go after the Sky Key.
Rataji PBP |
The books! How dare he presume!"
"Terribly sorry Gazwyr, but I too am determined to finish my current course."
And hopefully none of the others will either, much as a dragon would be a help. I hate sharing and dragons hate sharing too. Bad combination."
Note: This is NOT a player request. As a player I'm fine with such a swap of course.
The_Ambitious |
I got all of you in here without getting yourselves killed, and without the Aspis being implicated, I believe my job is done. I could take the beast's place.
While it does also fit my character to consider his work here done, ooc playing a dragon just sounds badass
Rataji PBP |
%&!$ Well, hopefully he will make a big target and get himself killed.
"Well then, welcome to the team! What spells can you cast oh powerful one!"
Aspis Agent |
"Welcome to our team Gazwyr. Can you tell us what this is about killing the mage that contained you there? Rataji, I believe we are here to retrieve the Sky Key? Is there anything you need to tell us?"
Unfortunately for me Joliryn would never abandon the team as I see her. Playing a dragon sounds bad-ass indeed!
Rataji PBP |
"No guarantees but I know that Zey is managing security. We are bound to run into him if he is keeping a close watch over their most valuable treasure and we go hunting for it, don't you think?"
I have no idea where Gazwyr got that idea unless it was just fed to him, but it is a probable assumption. Speaking of which, did we find out where the sky key is located. I'd rather not pour over old posts if someone has it at the tip of their tongue.
Ietsuna Shohiraj |
Enclosed within my brief for this mission was an "incomplete map that they created, noting the locations of your objectives in Skyreach." That should help us locate it, shouldn't it? We will need to move quickly though and preferably without notice. How inconspicuously can you move, out new dragon ally?
I never got a picture of the map, but I assume that Shohiraj has it and can point you in the right direction.
Aspis Agent |
"Ok, sounds probable indeed. I hope we all remember the information that I gave you earlier on Zey."
"Knowing mages, it would be best if we rush him if or when we meet him. Allowing mages to cast defensive spells is never good in my experience. That also means that we won't have any short duration spells supporting us, but I think we can remedy that in the first seconds of combat, right? You never know what warnings a mage of that caliber has set up..."
Rataji PBP |
"Agreed. any spells cast must be at least 5 minutes away from the door. And if we are going to be checking it for traps, that pretty much nixes any but the longest spells."
GM Lari |
After a moment's consultation, Wolona spirits Zurnzal away, off for some mission of his own, leaving you in the company of the dragon. Sent him a sheet
I added the only map I have of your location and destination into the Tapestry Chamber map, which you'll see is not super helpful, especially because the tower that is depicted as floating in the air is actually attached to the building (re-used art).
You think it will take about 5 minutes to get to the Library where the Sky Key is kept. Finding a closer location to cast minute/level spells.
The hallway leading up to the library will be yet another 10 ft wide featureless affair. The lack of any detail except the actual rooms is becoming a pet peeve of mine the more times it occurs. Map coming soon (tonight hopefully)
3-2-2 |
322 glances nervously at the dragon now with them. This was unexpected. What does he want with Zey's books? I he aware of something we are not?
"If we are going then we should get moving. There are many more men now: alerts will be raised."
Will we need another check moving through the halls again?
Rataji PBP |
Spells that Rataji casts 5 minutes out:
The other spells are of too short duration to prep.
Rataji PBP |
Shohiraj takes a small bottle from her pack and drinks it Potion of Invisibility
If Shi is going to do that then Rataji will cast invisiblity on himself instead.
GM Lari |
Your directions lead you to a set of heavily reinforced doors, bowing outward slightly. One door has a mail slot roughly three feet above the ground. A faint buzzing can be heard from the other side.
As Shohiraj approaches, she gets the sense that the cover of the mail slot carries a trap.
3-2-2 |
As they see the target door ahead, 322 focuses, trying to draw out a power she only partially can control.
Try to cast Spectral Hand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
:)
She also shields herself with certainty.
Casting Shield of Faith
Rataji PBP |
Since everyone else is casting a spell at the door, Rataji will cast fly on Joliryn from a scroll.
Don't know that you will need that expeditious retreat now. The fly should give you a decent move speed (60 ft). But, then again, expeditious retreat will make you REALLY fast.
Rataji PBP |
Rataji will have a scroll of dispel magic ready.

This tall library is ringed by a walkway around its perimeter, which provides access to a second level of towering bookshelves. A broad Qadiran rug leads to a short pedestal within a tall glass case that itself sits within an inscribed circle—all cordoned off by a velvet rope suspended by brass poles. A strange armillary pulses with energy from atop the pedestal.
Several plush chairs and a few low tables bearing curiosities and curios line the lower floor, and two decorative suits of armor stand at attention, each with a crossbow resting against its shoulder. Heatless torches blaze with remarkably even light in sconces throughout the room, and a tall pendulum clock on the eastern wall ticks each passing second.
A sneering Garundi man stands on the opposite balcony, fifteen feet up, though it may be more accurate to say five men stand, as identical copies stand in close proximity Mirror Image.
As he looks you over, he speaks, irritation clear in his voice.
"Finally! I expected you here sooner. I thought the Aspis were sending their best."
As he speaks, he makes the arcane gestures of spellcasting, without any of the incantations that accompany most spells.
He cast a silenced resist energy (acid)
Shohiraj, meanwhile, notices that the area immediately inside the room is trapped. Stepping inside the affected Red square on map, will cause one of the suits of armor to launch a crossbow bolt at the target.
If anyone enters on foot anyway, please consult the spoilers below.

Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 and you are entangled for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 rounds. Please give me a DC 15 reflex save or be glued to the floor. This is seeking, so miss chances from invisibility and similar effects will not help you, though other defenses might.

You're fine!.
The party may act.
Zey: 4 Images, 110, Resist Acid 30, Temp HP 11, MM 1/2
Rataji PBP |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
"Gwazyr, don't bother with any acid attacks. He just cast a spell to reduce the damage greatly. If I were you, I'd try to grapple him with your eyes closed as long as those images are there."
Rataji tries his best to hide what he is casting too. Not sure if he can make a bluff roll to do that. But he casts Lesser globe of Invulnerability in any case.
From the picture it looks like there may be room to go around the square. Is that true? Rataji moved forward 15' and may go further if it turns out he can avoid the trap.
GM Lari |
Not really, it's a little hard to tell from the map. but the door opens directly into the red square, rather than into the square under the balcony. Because it's a hard corner, you'd have to cross into the affected area.
Rataji, you do know the sphere will not move with you, correct?
Zey Spellcraft: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 29
As as for hiding spellcasting, there's really not a great way to do so. The only reason the DC to ID was so high was distance, which I just learned applies to these sort of checks.
Shohiraj, it seems reasonable to assume that Zey considers this a combat situation.
Ietsuna Shohiraj |
Shohiraj steps back from the door a little, runs up and jumps into the room.
Running Jump: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
I think I just jumped 30 (my max movement) feet into the room and avoided the red square? GM Lari please confirm.
Standard Pregen |
Running Jump: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25.
Marnarius follows Shohiraj's example, and jumps over the affected area. He then takes a shot at Zey (after studying him).
MW Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 2 = 32, for 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 4 = 16 damage.
Image: 1d5 ⇒ 4.
*sigh* what a waste of a crit :-/
Rataji PBP |
Rataji, you do know the sphere will not move with you, correct?
Really? It says this:
Area 10-ft.-radius spherical emanation, centered on youI thought that meant it would continue to be centered on Rataji.
But now I see this: You can leave and return to the globe without penalty.
Ugh. Fine.
Walk into the room through the red spot and cast it there. He can take a crossbow bolt, right?
Rataji PBP |
He does not get far. I'll put him at the edge of room.
reflex st: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
He can still cast the spell from there I guess unless he loses his standard action and he is still invisible and can see invisible.
Rataji PBP |
I looked it up. It will be a DC 15 + spell level to cast any spell while entangeled. What fun. I'll go for it. It's not like the battle will last as long as the entangle will so if I'm going to cast it might as well be now.
concentration: 1d20 + 7 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 5 = 20
*whew!*
3-2-2 |
At Shohiraj's alert, 322 flaps her dark wings to fly over the floor towards Zey. She calls out as she does so. {Aklo} "Zey. As arrogant as I heard. This is not personal. but it must be done."
As she flies forwards, she reaches out towards the Master of Spells and a ghostly hand flies towards him as she casts a spell of her own Ghoul Touch
Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Ghoul touch touch: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17
image, 1 hits: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Phooey
Also, I realize I forgot to roll this outside. Creating her spectral hand dealt 322 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage
GM Lari |
M: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
322: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
As Rataji walks into the room, a crossbow bolt launches from the closest statue, hitting him and covering him in a sticky substance that glues him to the floor. Zey smirks slightly in response.
Added sphere to map
322 and Marnarius attack the Master of Spells with arrow and magic, but neither seems to have a significant effect.
Joliryn and Gazwyr may act.
As your arrow penetrates the copy of Zey, you realize that not only is the copy you hit an illusion, but in fact all five are illusory, leaving the location of the real Zey unknown.
Arcana could identify the spell producing the effect.
As your magical hand tries to touch Zey, you realize that not only is the copy you hit an illusion, but in fact all five are illusory, leaving the location of the real Zey unknown.
Arcana could identify the spell producing the effect.
Rataji: 3, Entangled (1/5)
322: 4
Standard Pregen |
Marnarius curses loudly.
"It's an illusion!"
Hopefully, once our friendly neighborhood dragon with the 60' Blindsense (presumably) wanders into the room, we'll know if he is in the room, invisible.
Rataji PBP |
"He's up there!" Rataji points nearly above him.
Bet I just became a target.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 to recognize the spell he's using.
GM Lari |
Rataji, for spell effects already in place it's actually Arcana, but in your case it's the same bonus, so the roll stands.
Based on the illusion's capabilities, Rataji thinks the version of Zey on the far side of the room is produced by the spell project image. The source of his invisibility isn't immediately apparent, as there are a wide range of spells with that effect.
All, marked the location Rataji identifies Zey in on the map, as the one with the pink border. He's on the balcony, 15 feet up, and invisible.
Aspis Agent |
Well, if someone had, say, a Glitterdust handy, that would be helpful ;-)
That's my trigger, good thing I had no time to post earlier.
Jorilyn flies into the room and casts glitterdust at the area that Rataji pointed out. She also enters her mystic focus, benefiting from the effect of blur.
DC 16 for the glitterdust, although the most useful effect has no will save.
Fly DC20 for 180 degree turn: 1d20 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 3 = 30
_Gazwyr |
Gazwyr flies in, and sensing someone instantly turns around to hover over Rataji. Looking at seemingly nothing on the balcony, he yells
Who are you to hide from me?! Only your false copy is protected!
As he blasts a cone of acid directly into the man's face.
Acid Breath (Reflex 15 for half): 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 2) = 9
Recharge in 1d4 rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Rataji PBP |
Rataji is invisible. Any direction will have to be from the vague description of where he is. He unselfconciously pointed without thinking how userelss the pointing would be.
..."Gwazyr, don't bother with any acid attacks. He just cast a spell to reduce the damage greatly. If I were you, I'd try to grapple him with your eyes closed as long as those images are there."...
Reminder for Gazwyr. See post at 6:57 PM Tuesday. Maybe he didn't notice because Rataji mangled his name when he yelled that out?
GM Lari |
Zey Will: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Zey Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Joliryn's spell frames the outline of Zey and his illusory copies, though it doesn't seem to have blinded him. Removed the illusory Zey from the map.
Gazwyr's acid doesn't seem to have harmed the Master of Spells.
Seemingly unfazed by this turn of events, Aram Zey steps back slightly, putting more distance between himself and the halfling.
"You think you're clever, do you? Well, that won't last." he says as he targets the halfling with a spell.
Joliryn Will: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 4 = 9
Smirking as Joliryn is struck dumb, he turns to some of the others, switching out of Taldane as he retrieves a ruby-topped rod.
Staring down directly at Rataji, he comments,
and he spares a glance at Gazwyr, adding,
