I have to admit, having a witch hunter in the party makes me nervous (particularly when I am playing the arcanist!). I’ve had bad gaming experiences before (on more than one occasion) when someone sees playing a witch hunter as free license to attack or otherwise mistreat other characters in the group. Not saying that’s your intention here Rad, but how do you plan to deal with characters who might conform to the church’s idea of witches or heretics or what-have-you?

Character on character tension can be fun; character on character hostility or violence rarely is.

Dark Archive

I'll look into your soul and if God says you're not evil then you're off the hook. Even God exercises due process before He condemns.

Detect Evil

Besides, I expect to encounter you at the point where you are merely interested in proscribed books and not actually practicing human sacrifice. Let me know if that sets your mind at ease or not.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yep, I can work with that!

I must admit, the other times this has been a problem, the witch hunter in question did not have the ability to detect evil...

Mothman, is Morgan looking for the Nine Gates to the Kingdom of Shadows by Aristid de Torquia?

Not specifically, but that could work.

Dark Archive

Ninth Gate is one of my favorite movies.

Wiglaf, we ready to rock?

I saw it several years ago, but I remember it being pretty good.

My stats etc are done. Still trying to get detailed background typed up, but I can start whenever.

Apparently there's a surprising number of them, although I'm not familiar with most of them. James Jacobs rattled off a list of movies based directly or loosely on the works of Lovecraft in the chat room once - there was somehting like 10 to 15 I think.

Dark Archive

How does it go?

Cthulhu Patagan!

The Exchange

REALLY?

Man, I really need to to my video store!

Rad:
Cthulhu fhtagn!

The Day the Earth Stood Still ... originally I think. Though it has been used elsewhere too (Such as in Army of Darkness).

Evil Dead III: Army of Darkness starring Bruce Campbell

ya, almighty google told me that its also the name for 3 Star Wars characters.
(and Im using the word character a lot lately)

Dark Archive

Can we do an evaluation of the party's composition? Survival is the first thing to consider in a Ravenloft Game.

I'm a Paladin
Pendragon is a fighter
Mothman is arcanist (wizard)
Tarlane is a rogue.

We need a cleric or four potions of healing, whichever is available.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yeah, playing Ravenloft of all things without a cleric should be fun!

The Exchange

Male Half human

If you start as a 5th lvl paladin things should come up good...
but I agree, we need a band aid.
lets petition to Wiglaf to have another player, if he agrees to play a cleric

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

A couple of people posted to the 'looking for players' thread in gamer connection saying they'd like to join. One guy even wanted to play a cleric, but I'm not sure if Wiglaf saw the posts after he got his 4 players.

Dark Archive

I seconding that motion for a cleric.

Liberty's Edge

If you guys would prefer a cleric over a rogue, I wouldn't be adverse to making one myself. Pathfinder clerics are very cool. Plus, I built this character before you all had sort of cemented your ideas(a close to all good party, and all from earth) so if I whipped up a cleric I could be a bit more in line with you all I think.

Up to everyone(and wiglaf, since we put up first poses already) but I am up for that.

-Tarlane

Dark Archive

Yes, PF clerics are cool.

Meet The Deceiver.

Note the Rogue/Cleric Multiclass.

Tarlane, if you really wanna go cleric then by all means. My 2 cents.

Male Human Cleric 1

This is Tarlane, and I tossed together a sample of an idea for a cleric. I figure this way he could come from earth, be much more of an inquisitor type if not a crusader himself, and would probably fit in with the group much more soundly based on everyone's backgrounds.

-Tarlane

I love the smell of burning heretics in the morning. It smells of salvation.

I also play Warhammer RPG 2nd ed.

Liberty's Edge

Greetings Gents,

Well, I have good news and not as good news.

The Good News is that I have a new job. One that actually uses my college degree infarct. I am quite pleased. :)

The Not so Good News is that my time on-line is a little more limited than it was in the past. I’m going to make an effort to keep this game going at a good rate, but things may be slow for a while as I get settled in.

Now, on to business, Childeric looks good, and I like the back story. Be sure to list what type of armor and shield you have, right now they’re just the bonuses. It helps with descriptions and mental images. The kind of armor you wear can affect NPC reactions. :)

It looks like everyone has a little something extra that they want. That’s cool. Robert can have his fancy Bible and Indulgences. They are fun pieces that will help foster great role-playing without adding any numbers to the character.

Childeric can have a noble’s outfit custom made to fit the look you want. Go nuts.

Henry, if you want I’ll give your character an early version of an encyclopedia or some other book, perhaps the book you were looking for? Again, it won’t add any numbers to your character, but it can look any way you like and should be a great prop for when you are doing knowledge checks and such.

Carthen, I’m willing to give you something else as well if you can think of a kind of ‘signature item’ that you don’t already have. Feel free to let me know.

Beyond that… it looks like everyone is pretty much ready. Here is a re-cap just to make sure that I have it straight before I start.

Childeric and Robert are in Messina when they run across Henry, who is searching for, or has just found, a new book to study. Correct? Or did I miss something?

Liberty's Edge

Well, I’m feeling dumb because I failed to see the second page of this thread at first. Anyway, Tarlane, if you want to use the cleric instead that’s fine by me. Then we can start the game with everyone together. Works for me. As soon as I’m clear on where everyone is starting, at least in a general sense, I’ll start putting the opening post together.

Everything looks great guys. Thank you for your patience. I really appreciate it.

Messina is fine with me.

The Exchange

Male Half human

Messina is great for me too.
Radavel:
whats going on with our characters?
I mean, have we met already or you're following me?
If we met, you could be waiting for me to do something "sinful" to act or are just close to me and telling me what I should or shouldnt do. What you think?

Wiglaf:
Childeric's outfit is just something he wears on special occasions, like parties (wich he really enjoys) or reunions. He also likes to dress in a fancy way to impress the ladies.
(as you could've seen already, Childeric has high ranks in bluff and diplomacy for these social interacions and to conquer some hearts)

Male Human Cleric 1

Sounds good to me. If we want to start all together, then I think it would be pretty reasonable for my character to start off with Robert's, both seem to have similar ideals.

We could actually work as a pretty good team(and put some of mothman's and the churche's) fears at ease, my character is more towards the neutral side so I could keep you from becoming -too- over zealous(though I know that wasn't such a problem in real earth history) while you could help me maintain that same fervor.

Sort of a balance on both sides of the scale while working towards the same ideal. Would be a good way to determine 'heretics' a bit more... I don't want to say accurately, but that the idea.

As for a special item, I hadn't thought of it much. I dropped the extra cash on a silver holy symbol instead of a normal wooden one. Perhaps it is jeweled? A family heirloom or the like?

Liberty's Edge

The special holy symbol is fine. Good idea.

I think that I have everything I need to start us out officially. I'll put the post together some time today or tomorrow.

Liberty's Edge

No, I don't think he's posted yet.

Wiglaf is in a RotRL PbP I have been running also and he has gone quiet over there the last couple of days too, so I suspect that the job this week has just swamped him. Hopefully once he's settled in things will ease up enough we can forge ahead smoothly.

-Tarlane

Liberty's Edge

Hey guys,

Well, I have some disappointing news. Things have been busy lately. While I'm happy for the work it has caused me to make some hard decisions and changes. One of those is curring down on the on-line gaming that I do. I'm very sorry, but I feel that it simply isn't fair to anyone to try and play a game at a snail's pace. I am halting the games that I DM for on line, and cutting down on the ones I play in as well.

I am sorry. I have been really excited about this game from the first moments of the idea, but it doesn't make sense right now to try and run it right now. Real life always comes first with me, and I'm afraid that this is one of those times. I really like everything that you guys have come up with. You have made some excellent characters. I am sorry for cutting out like this, but I feel it is the only responsible thing to do right now. Good luck with your own gaming. Peace be with you, always.

Dark Archive

No worries, Wiglaf. RL really has to take precedence. Peace and keep on gaming.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Ah well, these things happen. Sometimes life just hits you like that. Good luck with it all Wiglaf.

Liberty's Edge

Good luck, Wiglaf.

Congrats on the new job, though I'm sorry it means you are having to cut back on these sorts of things. I do understand the need though to re-prioritize when these sort of changes come up.

Hope everything goes well for you.

-Tarlane
