Rebels Map

I have signed up on this table on the Outpost II sheet but I have a couple questions. First, I did not play part I of the set, so will that be a problem? (the part one tables were all full).

Assuming that is not a problem, I have a few characters in range that would be available. Skald-5, Alchemist-6.

With the two 7s already, the Alchemist is probably more appropriate.

You are supposed to have played part 1, especially to understand where we are in the story to this point, as it is a direct continuation of events. I don't see anything in the scenario that prohibits playing them out of order. It will likely be a spoiler for Part 1, if you ever play it.

The table stands at 6.5 with the character you signed up with (Omar, I think). It will be played in the 6-7 tier. If that means you want to change out for someone else who is eligible, go ahead.

If you'd rather wait to play part 1, I understand completely.

Is there anyone else signed up who has not played Part 1?

Rebels Map

I will abide by your decision as GM if it does not make sense to join part two , story-wise

I will play my alchemist if you allow.

GM Aarvid: Take this for what it is worth, but this strikes me as a 2-parter where you really want to have played part 1. As someone who missed part 2 of the destiny of the sands 3-parter, I'd suggest playing part 1 first.

Other info: The relic hunter archetype melds an occultist onto the inquisitor base. So I've got implements and certain schools that I'm limited to in terms of spells known.

Preacher ability replaces teamwork focus with "Determination" that lets me do a few things - it's described on my character sheet. Big thing is I can force an attacker to reroll if he would hit an ally. For PbP purposes, I'll do this on critical threats.

Looks the games are set to begin. We have 3 of the 5 signed up checked in so far. I have Helikon in another of my games, so I will bump him. Looking for Robyn with Annaliese to check in.

With the make up we have right now, APL is 6.5 which puts us solidly in high-tier (6-7) for this scenario.

I will work on opening post and briefing, which includes a bit of synopsis of Part 1. After that, we will see if our missing Pathfinders have joined up.

Rebels Map

I will hold off then, and only join if you need to fill out the table for the two missing members.

Handout 2: The Blessing of Ashava

Ashava's blessing has granted a temporary form of lycanthropy that is fully under your control. This has no influence on your character's alignment, personality, or motivations unless you would like to make this a transformative experience for your character. The blessing has the following effects:

You can change shape. You have three forms -- your typical form, a wolf form, and a hybrid form. You can shift to any of your three forms as a move action. If this PC has earned the Celestial Lycanthropy boon from 10-05 (Part 1 of this series), you gain that boon's benefits for the entire scenario.

HYBRID FORM
If you shift to hybrid form, you gain the following benefits:

Senses: Your senses sharpen, granting you darkvision (60 feet), low-light vision, and scent.
Defenses: You gain DR 5/silver and a +2 bonus to natural armor
Attacks: You gain a bite attack that deals 1d6 damage if you are Medium and 1d4 if you are Small. If hte bite attack hits, you can attempt a combat maneuver check to trip as a free action.
Pack Leader: You can communicate and empathize with wolves. You can use Diplomacy to alter a wolf's attitude and gain a +4 racial bonus on this check wihen doing so.

WOLF FORM
If you shift to wolf form, you gain all fo the benefits listed for hybrid form as well as the following:

Speed: Your base speed increases to 50'
Wolf Shape: All of the gear you are carrying or wearing melds into your body until you switch to another form. All items that give constant bonuses still give those bonuses except armor, which does not function. Unless you have other feats or class features that woudl allow you to do so, you cannot speak, cast spells, or manipulate objects that would require the use of hands.

Be advised that I will be traveling from Wednesday through Sunday of this week for Spring Break. I will likely not be able to post at all during this trip.

GM DrEvil: I have to ask given the approaching TPK; did you take the 4-player adjustment into account?

You may closer to solving this thing than you imagine, but its a good question, so I went back to verify.

I did reduce the number of guards by one, but failed to add the shaken condition to Theodorus and his entire squad. Let me go back and see if that -2 penalty on attacks, saves will make a difference in where we stand on damage currently.

Will report back ASAP

EDIT: Based on my lookback, there were two shots at LeGuin that were scored as hits, that should've been misses with the shaken penalty added for a total of 35hp dmg that the inquisitor did not take. The rest of the attacks, saves, and skill checks would've gone off as indicated. Sorry for the mixup...

Yes. I want to see if I get some more healing--also waiting to see if the shaken adjustment changed anything.

I’ll run Kyra when I can. Have been traveling for work all week.

Chase Rules - variant

This pursuit uses a variant of the chase rules (Pathfinder RPG GameMastery Guide 232) that is fully detailed below.

The chase below consists of a series of obstacles. For each obstacle encountered, a PC can either attempt a check or use one of their abilities, such as casting a spell. At least one PC must attempt a check for each obstacle. Use the highest modified result among the PCs as the base result, and consider any other score above 10 to be a successful aid other action, adding a +2 bonus to the total for each. If a PC uses a relevant spell to deal with an obstacle, such as gust of wind to clear out gas or burning hands to torch webs, grant the highest check result a bonus between +2 and +4. Compare this total result to the obstacle’s DC to determine whether the PCs successfully overcome that obstacle.

The chase assumes a baseline movement speed of 30 feet. PCs with a movement speed slower than 20 feet take a –2 penalty on all of their checks during the chase. PCs with a movement speed above 30 feet, such as the speed increase granted from wolf form, gain a +2 bonus on all of their skill checks for every 10 feet that their movement speed is greater than 30 feet.

The PCs can also use spells and abilities with a sufficiently long duration to augment their abilities, providing themselves with mechanical bonuses to their checks. Spells or abilities with a duration of 1 minute per level confer their benefits for one obstacle. If the PCs use spells or abilities with a duration of 10 minutes per level or longer, they receive their benefits for the entire chase. For example, a PC who casts longstrider would increase her movement speed for all of the obstacles. If the PCs fail to overcome an obstacle, they nevertheless progress to the next obstacle, but repeated failure has consequences.

LMK if you have questions after reading.

So, I have a constant fly speed of 60 feet. (As the fly spell.) How do you think this will affect things? Do you want to just make a call for each obstacle?

I've only got a +9 CMD, but that might be our best bet. Kyra is probably better off casting bull’s strength on herself or Annalise or Sojourner because we'll need as many aids a possible. LeGuin already has an enhancement bonus to Str. Maybe we should go for Dex, because if we get a little lucky and one of us rolls high, then we only need the aids to get to 23? Lower bonuses than CMB but not has high a number to hit, and this is going to really dependent on the rolls.

GM, is there a 4 player adjustment for these numbers, given the mechanic that take highest roll and add all aids, it definitely hurst to have only 4. Also, is the idea we can cast 1 spell per “segment” of the chase? Just wondering how much buffing we can do at the start.

Sojourner Hanif wrote:

The text really isn't clear about flying, but I think the intent of this chase if for the group to move as a unit, rather than most where you move as individuals, therefore your flight won't help, other than perhaps add +3 to your checks due to 60' speed.

LeGuin wrote:

Yes, the 4 player adjustment, which reduces the DC by 5, is included in the numbers I revised. The high tier (6=7) adjustment increases the DC's from the chase chart by 4, for a net -1 effect, and I gave a net +1 effect originally.

The DC's seem high, but with aid -- which should be pretty easy to get for most -- it's within reach. You can fail more than one task without significant penalty so don't get too hung up on each one.

LeGuin wrote:

The text explicitly says, "For each obstacle encountered, a PC can either make a check or use ONE of their abilities, such as casting a spell." I would interpret that to mean you can use one spell per obstacle starting with the first, but if you cast, then you can't make a check. since the chase started unexpectedly, you don't have time to load up buffs before the first obstacle.

Refer to the werewolf forms above, you can shift between these between obstacles without penalty. Note the 50' move speed will automatically add +4 to all checks....

Kudos to AT&T for knocking out my internet service for nearly a full week. When it was up, it was too weak to do much, so the games languished.

I am should be up to full speed tomorrow, but am headed to bed early this evening.

Sorry for the delay, I am told the service should be reliable from here out, though it must not be if someone needs to tell me that...

More tomorrow!

Even though we are not yet complete, the deadine has come to report the game to proper Outpost authorities so they can begin to wrap up the con.

Each player can win a boon, if the die result comes up on a 19-20 below. Typically, I would let you roll these, but I am short on time to get the reporting in

Annaliese: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Sojourner Hanif: 1d20 ⇒ 4
LeGuin: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Kyra, pregen of Helikon: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Looks like no winners! Better luck next time.

I will be traveling for work tomorrow, and therefore unlikely to be able to post all day.

Please note that I will be having house guests in starting tomorrow evening through Monday night for graduation. (My daughter's). AS such, I will be very unlikely to post much in the interim, as I will be playing host instead. I may be able to sneak in a post or two, but it's possibly courting disaster with my overlord...See you after.

It is relevant for roleplaying, and I should've asked before now, but what is each character's greatest fear?

You also each took time to learn a certain dance from Luyvire the azata back at Heidmarch Manor. The dance was to calm restless spirits. It may come in handy quite soon.

Thanks for playing. Sorry it took so long to complete, but at least you saw it through to the end. I will work on Chronicle Sheets tomorrow, so please let me know if there are items I need to add for you. The game has already been reported as part of the Outpost II, so should be on your Organized Play page already.
