1 person marked this as a favorite.

All I can say is that I'm taking a lot of smug satisfaction from the fact that my group and I never switched over from 2e. See you losers, I've got to go develop a kit for a priest who can use edged weapons for the next Adventure Path.

P.S. James, why aren't you returning my calls?

No not at all ?!? Where?

You know, the part about how to much is changed, yet not enough is changed. Why not tell McDonalds to lighten up on the fat and sodium while complaining that you want more taste in their food or complaining that tolkein needs a better editor while wanting the LotR expanded.

They are dirty lies and I will not sit and listen to this slander of my roomates completely valid and in no way contradictory points about the nature of Pathfinder... In fact mr. Erian_7 I don't think you are serious I think you are just spoofing yourself claiming someone is spoofing, why don't you go spoof yourself where your libel won't hurt the feelings of my roomate who's feelings won't actually be hurt because any time I try to tell him about your vicious lies he puts his hands on his ears and begins his la la la song again.

Because that is two seconds that I will not have to defend my roomates honor, despite the fact that I shouldn't care because he will not listen to me mention any of these posts.

EDIT: just wanted to make sure that no-one confused this last post for the OP because I didn't clarify that I was the OPs roomate.

You see, I'm one of those types that just can't stand sitcoms that have the "everybody knows except this one guy" plot. I feel too bad for the one guy!

Now, that said I must say you are the most helpful roommate ever--my roommates from college always just ate my food, drank my wine, and made me* stay up too late on test nights.

* Yep, made me do it. I had no choice in the matter due to their superior skills at spinning their hair-brained plans as being more exciting than study/sleep...

I cannot even imagine how devastating that song must have been to the psyche of small-town Alabamians (and I'm originally from small-town Alabama!)...

We all have to be somewhat egocentric to believe anyone gives a feces what any of us posts on an internet forum.

The problem with satire and sarcasm on the internet is no matter how hard you try to make it obvious that it is such... 20 people will take you seriously.

FWIW for those not clued in at this point:

OP == Original Poster
LastKnightLeft is not his roommate, he is in fact himself

As for the original post. To close to home. Although I suppose I'm not much better, I still post on the WotC boards and still harp on things I perceive are problems with 4e. I like to think I do it because I would seriously like to see them come around to a more reasonable point of view on a lot of issues. Pot, meet the Kettle.

What I really don't get about a lot of these posters is comment like this "Paizo hasn't fixed high level play" or "XXX power breaks the game". Maybe they don't understand that Alpha means it's in development and should just come back when the game is a little more finished. Like August of '09. Until then there is hope :)

Not so! Why I have had many, many people over the years give their feces very freely to me on Internet forums over the years. Their generosity in this respect has been boundless!

While I disagree with the original poster's use of the word 'disappointment' and his and others' style of leaving Paizo, I think he makes good points regarding a few things. He is entitled to an opinion, after all. Even if he and others do not articulate their opinions well, they have them, and they might actually be predicated on some valid issue or idea.

Vancian magic, combat, class balance and skills are pretty consistent themes when comparing D&D 3.x to 4th Edition. Those are the same reasons I'm making a switch to 4th Edition.

But, I certainly would not say that Pathfinder is "this or that" or "not this or not that." I haven't played it, so I'd never cast aspersions on it. I can say those things about Wizards of the Coast's 3.x, however.

I respect the fine people that work at Paizo too much to be a "bomb-thrower" anyway. I've said it in other threads - I'll buy Pathfinder RPG just out of loyalty to a great game company. Even if it sits on a shelf, I can proudly own it with all of my other Paizo stuff.

1) it doesn't change enough to warrant being called a new edition, seriously why am I shelling out 50 bucks to buy something that still has vancian magic, itterative attacks and skill points

The charges are more wide spread then 3.0 to 3.5 and for the most part they're good.

lastknightleft wrote:
2) it's not backwards compatable, you've changed too many things, barbarian rage points, rogue magic, skill ranks, now I have to do all this conversion work if I want to play any of my modules, I'm not even going to try and playtest this because I can see how hard it's going to be.

First you say they didn't change enough (#1) now you're saying they changed too much? Sounds like you just don't like the above things.

Skills don't need to be covered if you don't need them for the encounter. Rogues get 2 spells that don't make a difference, you don't even have to take those talents. As for rage points.. a lot of people seem to like it.

lastknightleft wrote:
3) High level play takes too long, in my 3rd level 4e game combat takes us about 30 minutes to an hour, so I know that when my party hits 26th level combat will be the exact same.

I've found combat length varies based on the people playing the game, not the rules.

lastknightleft wrote:
4) You haven't done anything to fix the fighter, I can't even play it because I see that it still will suck at higher levels despite all the extra feats and bonuses. I can tell just by looking that this fixes nothing because I am so intuitive when looking at gaming systems that I can automatically detect how anything will play out, why you haven't hired me to replace Jason yet is beyond me.

So instead of offering a solution in the new rules forum and posting a reference here, you attack Jason.. real good.

lastknightleft wrote:
5) You haven't balanced the classes at all, go ahead and go to the 4th ed forums, all the char ops people agree that every class is perfectly balanced and that every power is properly leveled and there are no obvious power choices. Until you manage to make 3rd as balanced as 4th I don't see any reason to play or buy any product from you because like I said if I don't like your RPG then your game mastery products, your planet stories line, your 3rd party gaming sales, none of it will suit me.

Classes aren't supposed to be balance. A lot of people don't like 4e because every class feels the same. I don't want class balance, this isn't a Player vs Player game, this isn't World of Warcraft. Each class gets it's own skill set and shouldn't be matched to do it.

Noticably missing from 4e... non-combat skills. It's more ROLLplay then ROLEplay. That's one of the things that sets a ranger and rogue apart from a fighter.

lastknightleft wrote:
I just wanted to let you know all this because since I'm leaving I figured it was very important to take up thread space so that everyone can argue over my opinions, which I totally will not come back to look at because a post like this deserves discussion and I don't really just want to see what people think of my opinion. And it is totally reasonable to post that you don't care about what people think of your opinion because if it were true why would you bother to post in the first place, because that's not a hypocritical position at all.

I'm glad you don't care what people think because you sound more like a troll then anything else but you've got a nice post count which means you're not a flyby troll... which only means this is an attempt at attention grabbing.

Either way, good bye.

Shows what I get for trying to go for Colbert like tenacity when creating a persona, I was gonna let it slide till page three for those who hadn't quite caught on, but oh well. I must say that the people who took it seriously only to come back and edit that they now get it later where the ones that really made me proud.

Hi I'm Nathan and I'm a Paizite or Paizonian what have you, in fact I'm just now getting my house cleaned up to play my second ever playtest, that will hopefully be more than the one shot of the last group.

I love what Paizo is doing and only posted my OP in order to higlight the doublestandards and hypocritical behavior of those who post these goodbye threads. I personally think that the fact that so many posters took me seriously meant that the prevailence of these thread kinda beats down any sensible approach to these threads especially how for every one that says one thing another pops up for the exact opposite reason.

Thanks for putting my stuff out there like that Erian_7 and Dennis (and at this point I'm pretty sure you're MtbOgre from the WotC boards, am I right?)

I'm so sick of these posters saying that they don't like Pathfinder and they won't buy the books that I'm going to clone myself 100 times and have each clone post a lengthy thread on the boards declaring its undying devotion to Pathfinder RPG and all ancillary products. Each clone will buy their own copy of every Paizo product until the sun goes nova, and in addition, I will personally buy an extra copy of the Pathfinder RPG for each and every poster who has declared that they have quit the boards and hate PRPG. Furthermore, I will buy a like number of beta RPG books, and even alpha books, despite those being free. I will mail a check to paizo for $25 per alpha document I print to cover their alpha costs and to show these vocal PRPG quitters!

To ensure that I purchase the correct number of Pathfinder books (alpha, beta, and final), I implore all members of the board who plan on quitting but have not yet posted this information in a separate, dramatically titled thread to please stop lurking with your intentions and post such threads so I can get an accurate count.

That mtbOgre guy? He's a douchebag don't listen to a word he says.

Personally the board reorg over there pretty much spelled the end for me. It seems that every thread I post on over there has been put in some sort of ghetto. The 3.5 ghetto, the Mac/ Linux ghetto, the Hey the OGL really was a good idea ghetto. I don't feel much welcome over there.

Very amusing thread LK! As I mentioned in another thread, I've been wondering how many of the "OMGWTFBBQ I'M LAEVING!!1!" topics by members with fewer than 20 posts are actually shills. Well played. (Though in the context of this thread, "well plaid" may be more appropriate.)

Of course, if you actually had been able to finish a 4th ed combat in 30 mins, I'd let you know that D&D needs at least 2 people to play. That in fact, you are more likely playing Diablo II on your PC. And that while Diablo II is a fine game, it's not D&D 4th ed, although I can easily see why you'd be confused.
