OK, I'm not sure if this worked, so I'll try it again...
Hooray! My first thread (Sorry, Noob moment over).
As an offshoot of the "Personal Theme Music" thread, what is the creepiest and/or scariest theme music you guys and gals have ever heard?
Personally, I have two: the theme from Halloween and the theme from John Carpenter's The Thing.
What's yours?

P.S. Also, one other that I have is one I can't name. I've been looking for the title and composer so I can but the song off of iTunes, but no one seems to know it. So if anyone does, please let me know.
The music doesn't start until about :45 seconds in, but it's heard on the soundtrack to the movie Sunshine. Anyone know what this music is? I especially love the violin work in the piece; gives the whole thing a very haunting sound.

According to the dude in the postings on the YouTube link, it's called Lux Aeterna, and was originally written and performed by Clint Mansell and The Chronos Quartet as part of the soundtrack to Requiem For A Dream. It was modified and originally used for The Tower Towers trailer, called "Requiem For a Tower". It has since been used in a number of other trailers. You can find an mp3 of it in a number of places if you google "requiem for a tower".
Welcome and I hope that helps!

John Murphy (28 Days Later...Weeks Later) wrote the music for Sunshine; Underworld wrote some of the instrumental slips. His score to Sunshine is not currently available for purchase, and was never released on CD.

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!
Thank you SOOOOOO much. I have been looking for that song everywhere. I know I said it before, but it's the best description; one of the most haunting pieces of music ever recorded. I really appreciate the assist. Thanks again.

P.S. By the way, what's you scariest song?

Are you talking about the actual movie or the trailer? Lux Aeterna is the song in the trailer, but it's never heard in the actual movie.

Sorry, let me clarify: scariest, creepiest, most sends-chills-down-your-spine song you've ever heard. Could be from a movie, soundtrack, or just a random track off a CD. It just so happens my few choices are movie themes. But any music will be OK.

Sorry, sorry--I thought at one point you were trying to find the soundtrack and composer info to the movie Sunshine.

Well, yeah I was looking for the name of that song, and I thought, in addition the the scary song request, you guys could help me find it. It does belong on the list, though, as a haunting melody (I always use that word to describe the song, but it's the best desciption I can think of). Didn't mean to confuse, sorry about that.

The album Black Angels by The Kronos Quartet has some of the creepiest music I've ever heard on it. I think those guys were all in a very dark place when they recorded it.
As far as movie soundtracks go, Signs has a couple of good tracks, Brazillian Video in particular has a nice creepy build and resolution.

And thank you so much Andrew T. and DogBone. I have also been trying for a long time to figure out what Requiem for a Tower is called. The first time I heard it was during a TV trailer for The Two Towers. It bothered me because I thought it was awesome but I knew it wasn't on the movie soundtrack. Since then I have heard it numerous times and always wondered where the hell it came from. You guys solved a big mystery for me today. Cheers!

The creepiest music I've used in a game have always been low key ones that one can keep going in the background, so they unnerve your players:
Elliot Goldenthal's Alien 3 is a pretty solid standard.
Philp Glass and The Kronos Quartet's Dracula is also a great suite one that can be randomly looped and still keep your players wigged out.
My own favorites are the themes to The Devil Rides Out, The Ninth Gate, Kolchak: The Night Stalker and The Haunting.

Definately have scared the goth out of some people with Diamanda. Her first 3 albums are excellent, though now she's seems to be more into jazz.
I feel unclean is a better representation of her creepiness. Definately goes along with some evil ritual.

I love Diamanda. This song makes my blood freeze and boil at the same time.
Let's see... Oh, yes:
- "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
- "My War" by Black Flag
- "Imagine" by A Perfect Circle
- "The Dope Show" by Marilyn Manson
- "Halber Mensch" by Einsturzende Neubauten
