A big thanks to all the posters in the Acrobatics and AoO threads for the inspiration. It's a work in progress, but I like the way it addresses some of the issues discussed in the threads.

Suggestion
Combat Reflexes
Prerequisite: BAB +1
Benefit: You may make a number of additional attacks of opportunity equal to your Dexterity bonus.
With this feat, you may also make attacks of opportunity while flat-footed. You also add +1 to the attack and damage rolls when making an AoO.

Improved Combat Reflexes
Prerequisite: Combat Reflexes, BAB +6
Benefit: You increase by a number equal to your Dexterity bonus the DC for the Acrobatics check to move past the squares that you threaten or to move past the space you occupy and the DC for the casting on the defensive check. You add +2 to the attack and damage rolls when making an AoO.

Perfect Combat Reflexes
Prerequisite: Improved Combat Reflexes, BAB +11
Benefit: You may make attacks of opportunity against opponents who target you with a combat maneuver and who have the Improved <combat maneuver> feat or another ability which allows them not to draw AoO when performing the CM. You also add +4 to the attack and damage rolls when making an AoO.

I like that.

IMO there should be a split between some of the benefits, though, maybe two related feat trees, one for the additional damage and one for the benefits against movement and combat maneuvers. It sounds a little too much for me: "Hey, now I can use aoo where I couldn't before and at +4 to hit and damage!". Like one Improved and perfected tree without the to hit and damage bonus and one with "Damaging Combat Reflexes" and "Killing Combat Reflexes" with just the to hit and damage boni...

And the bonus to the DC to move past or casting defensively is much to low, of course ;)

Cheers. I'm not too keen on expanding the AoO-related feat family. We had one single feat in the 3.5 SRD and I'm not sure how desirable/cool six feats in two trees would be for something that may rarely come into play for less tactical campaigns.

I agree that it could use some toning down. How about eliminating the attack and bonus damage? If the flavour is about speed and awareness, a bonus to the attack roll and to damage doesn't really fit.

Weapon Focus/Greater Weapon Focus and Power Attack will do nicely. This discussion gave me the idea for a couple of defensive feats I'm working on in the CM context which could grant the attack roll and damage bonus.

I was expecting this. :-) I really wanted to move towards smart hitting and tactics and away from "hard hitting".

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Back to the tweaking board.

1. More circumstance penalties based on the floor and light conditions. reference to "hones". Must be a new type of dungeon tile. :-)
2. Defender's Reflex save with the Tumble check result as DC

Non-OGL, so unusable, unless the same info appears in the SRD. :-(

Locworks, I just stumbled upon this thread. I like what I'm reading here. These new Combat Reflex feats look cool.

If you don't mind, I'd like to yoink them for my fighter design - I'm thinking they'd be perfect for generic fighter talents to add to my ever-growing list of fighter-talents. However instead of adding them to any one of the four fighter-talent trees, these can be generic for any of them. I really like the idea of a fighter (only) being able to afford himself an AOO regardless if the person has an impvd combat manuever feat or not - just seems intuitive to a figher's capabilities....

Do you mind?
