Me too. He was also the script editor of Dr Who during the Pertwee and early baker eras too - a BBC staffer (he also did other stuff, including period dramas and so on).
I met him when he came to our science fiction society at school, ooo, maybe twenty years ago. Always a huge hero, of mine, and he put up with a bunch of pimply teenage boys with great warmth and friendliness. Has to be said, he had strong (mostly negative) views of the Sylvester McCoy era of Dr Who, as he said they had changed the editorial stance from it being an adult drama to a kids show, and it had suffered as a result.
I always thought Lela should've been a half-orc.
Pity, the pithy effects budget.
