Hmmm. I am not a fan of some of the things done by the Warlock class, which was part of the Arcana series.
On the other hand I *did* like some of the 2nd edition Planescape work such as the (to my mind) 'classic' Planescape anthologies The Great Modron March and Dead Gods. (The former was co-designed with Colin McComb, but the latter was solely Monte Cook's credit for design.)
I expect his knowledge of third edition rules will be a valuable resource to the Pathfinder team, and I hope that James Jacobs will be able to persuade him to write something for the Adventure Paths. :D
Interesting news, Paizo.
As a fan of Dead Gods and many of Monte's other stuff (as well as Jason and Eric Mona,) the only way this could be even more of a D&D "Dream Team" for me is if Bruce Cordell joined in for revamping the design of the psionic classes....

Considering the Hardcover Setting has Ed Greenwood, RA Salvatore, and Keith Baker working on it, and now Monte Cook on the Pathfinder RPG...

But yes, both the creator of Forgotten Realms and the creator Eberron contributed to the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting hardcover.

Hm, can anyone please clarify for me the precise nature and extent of Monte Cook's involvement? I mean we've seen prefaces to products from him before to which he contributed little otherwise, e.g. Tome of Horrors I and II. While I appreciate Monte's product endorsements enormously, I hope being a "rules consultant" is WAY more substantial.
(And for the record, there's another way to outstrip these news short of resurrecting Gygax. Convince Mike Mearls to contribute the chapters on combat and skills.)

No offense, but I was hoping for something (a) precise and (b) official, and this seems to be neither.
Any chance that some of the healing rules from BOXM end up in the Pathfinder rpg?

I am SO SO haooy that i decided to see if there was anything new around the forum today... first post to see was really the best one...
Since Arcana Unearthed I have thoroughly enjoyed Monte's work, I think he is one of the most talented guys working out there in the RPG industry...
From him we adopte many rules and likings, Pathfinder RPW show us great ideas that we already love... now with Monte in the boat, we can only expect things to go uphill from here on.
I was already sold to Pathfinder... but this new just make my day :D

I think I'm officially more excited than I was when bought a copy of 3.0.

In other news, Paizo creates the first working perpetual motion machine, turns lead to gold, and builds the first man-made cold fusion reactor. At least, after this news, I am expecting the RPG equivalent...
Well, Paizo may not be able to turn lead into gold, but they sure seem able to turn paper into gold. And they seem to be able to perpetually churn out good stuff, plus their stuff is as energetic as any fusion reactor.

well i must say that this news makes me very happy that i decided to throw in with paiso. i play ad&d still, but ALOT of paiso and goodman 3.5 stuff finds it's way in there ( necromancer too, but who's counting). anyway i have read alot of posts praising the paiso guys, but i hope it doesn't lose the energy and excitment you guys have pumped into my favorite game. THANKS. chaos is king and magic rules the world.
I can think of only one line right now: "Mother of God..."

I was at work when our office got hit by a sonic boom of groan exclaming "Ohhhhhh [explative deleted]!!!!!!!!!!!"
It took a while to figure out it was coming form the WotC office but didn't know why. When I came home and read this I understood.
Funny thing is we're 3000 miles from their offices.
I am unbelievably excited by this announcement! All of my favorited DnD designers all in one pot. Love it!

This is beyond words. Monte Cook's work on Planescape was one of the 2nd Ed. highlights. He is one of my favorite designers and I would love to see his expert hand molding Paizo's wizard class. This is so great, that I can't begin to describe how I feel. It's almost silly. I'm 27 years old, but I'm happy as a 7 year-old child beneath a Christmas three. News like these are one of the things that make everyday life bearable. Paizo & Monte, I salute you!

No, I know. I just wanted to make sure there was NO confusion at all. The two projects seem to meld together in peoples' minds sometimes.

Don't worry about it Mike. All Mistwalker needs to do is go read Monte's blog entry on Monte's website (google it) and Monte goes into detail how he's participating in Pathfinder RPG.

I'm less enamoured about Mearls work (too much crunch for things a DM should be simply winging) and, tongue-in-cheek here of course, wondering if Bruce Cordell and Dave Noonan could be taunted into working for Paizo...or at least becoming freelancers.
It was a rough day at work... feels really good now though. Great news. Just when I thought my wallet was safe :)
Monte has long been my favorite developer. All of my players have known that his books along the 3.0/3.5 line could stand alongside the core books and rare was the case that I wouldn't permit something. He has a strong eye at balance and I was heart broken when he announced that he was retiring from the game to do other projects. The experimental series that he put out recently had me drooling just to get my hands on something new from him. Now with him joining forces with Jason and the rest of the Pathfinder team, I know that Pathfinder will be my game of choice for years to come. I already thought the game was coming along great, this is icing on the cake.
Excuse me, I believe I done shat m'self.
Now that that is all over, the only way this could get better is if I got magically hired to work at Paizo. I make great pizza. I wash dishes. I can wear a funny hat and act like a monkey. What more do you need? Sure, I don't have a college degree in monkey impersonation, but still...
