Strange Loops; an Eberron game

Play-by-Post Discussion

1 to 50 of 114 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

We can continue discussion here. Sorry Gamer Connection!

Spoiler:

I will repost the character creation guidelines that we established in the other thread, for reference.

- Starting at Level 2
- Every character receives Weapon Finesse for free for weapons they are proficient in (if you know how to use a rapier, you know how to use a rapier.)
- 32 point Standard point buy
- Max HP at first level
- 900 gp starting gold
- No Dinosaurs. (Maybe dinosaurs, if you convince me)
- Dice rolls are to be made using Invisible castle
- Skillful - All characters get 2 extra skill points per level. These points must be spent on Craft, Knowledge, Profession or Perform skills only. These bonus points are multiplied as usual at first level (so 8 skill points usable on Craft, Knowledge, Profession and Perform skills at level 1, and 2 such skill points every subsequent level). In addition, all Craft, Knowledge,Profession and skills are considered class skills for these skill points. These skills get overlooked much too often! (snagged this one from a game I play in; great idea!)
-Alpha 2 rules

+++Shifter Fixes:
+2 Wisdom. The feral and animalistic qualities of shifters lend them sharpened awareness, perception, and insight.
+2 to Acrobatics and Climb. This replaces the bonus to now defunct skills.
+1 Shifter feat at 1st level.

+++Changeling Fixes:

+2 to any one ability score. 1/day this bonus can be changed to affect another ability score. This reflects their shifting personas.

-Skill Focus: Changelings receive Skill Focus (X) as a free bonus feat at 1st level.

Sim's intro thread is here.

The Lyrandar twins' thread is here.

Once the others finalize backstories/connections/days in the life of, then we can continue! Mystery, Danger, Treasure, and Magic awaits! *spooky sounds*

Yay, a discussion thread!

*throws confetti*

And as Dahn didn't linkify:

Sim's intro thread is here

And the Lyrandar twins' intro thread is here

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

I did linkify! Just after the fact! I couldn't get back into the thread. Strange board thing: When I make a thread, it disappears until I log back out and in again. Other people see it, and I see all other updates to other threads, but mine doesn't exist for me until I leave and come back. Weird. I know. So I was in limbo, and couldn't linkify.

So thanks Kayos. I know that you're very eager to start, but you've had your turn! With Uncle Flash!

The Exchange

Female Human(ish) DM 1 / Housewife 1 / Zany RPer 3

Ah sorry hon, just wanting to help, when I checked there were no linkies and I thought you'd have run out of editting time so I wanted the links to be as near the top of the thread as possible ^^;

Just a note on skycoaches in Sharn; Specifically the Silverstreak Skycoaches:

Spoiler:

THE SILVERSTREAK SKYCOACH
RENTAL COMPANY
Serra Narim, a classy, red-haired woman in her midthirties,
started this company five years ago and still
heads it today. The Silverstreak has risen to prominence
by putting several dragonmarked houses that previously
operated from Lyrandar Tower out of business.
Because Serra is not dragonmarked, numerous people
from the noble houses of Sharn resent her and her
company. But even though she has made her share of
professional enemies, no one has yet resorted to assassination—
probably because she is betrothed to Telleth of
the dragonmarked House Kundarak, a man who wields
some influence in the city.
The Silverstreak Skycoach Rental Company operates
a fleet of twenty skycoaches, five to ten of which are
rented out to single parties for extended periods of time.
The rest hover near the skyways and balconies in search
of people who need transportation to other areas within
the city. An adventuring party can rent a skycoach for
150 gp per day, and the coach and driver are at the
renter’s beck and call until dismissed. The agreement
stipulates that if services are needed for more than 24
hours, the driver must return to Lyrandar Tower at least
once per day to switch out with another driver.

This is taken from the Sharn splat book's web enhancement on Lyrandar tower. You can grab it here.. It's an interesting read for those who are natives to Sharn, especially considering that two of our players are heirs in some capacity to the Lyrandar responsibilities.

Just a note, continue working on your characters. The gameplay thread is almost ready to go up. I'll introduce players to it as soon as we have gone through the steps necessary to introduce everyone!

Marla, Starlan, and Torin: Will they be ready soon?

Especially considering I'm looking at this dragonmark heir PrC and ooohing at it ^^;

I shall definately add that to my eberron reading list (which is now quite long!)

The Exchange

Hmm that looks interesting. I doubt we'll get to the stage where i would look at prestige classes :) for what i'd go for we'd need to be about 7th level. Windwright Captain from the explorer's book would fit very well though.

The Exchange

Female Human(ish) DM 1 / Housewife 1 / Zany RPer 3

Hush you, I can coo at prestige classes if I want ;P

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Both PrC's make sense to me, and i like the idea....Shoot for it if you want! We haven't started the game yet, who know how long it will be until lvl 7

Male Halfling Rogue 1/ Druid 1

I just downloaded the Sharn supplement on the Lyrandar Tower, it seemed pretty nice (and useful, since 2 of our group are Lyrandar members themselves...)

One thing I thought of, though, was whether the 'public' areas (not the airship docks) are patrolled by the Sharn City Guard or private police owned by Lyrandar...?

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

They are patrolled by the City guard, but are more than watched by Lyrandar's own troupe as well (does that make sense?)

I am on vacation right now, and not able to touch my laptop. This is a 4 minute run to the internet that I could grab, to let you know I haven't deserted you! I will be back tomorrow night! Starlan's PBP is imminent!

The Exchange

Female Human(ish) DM 1 / Housewife 1 / Zany RPer 3

Thanks for quickly popping in to see us hun, enjoy your vacation *hugs*

Cool, no worries, enjoy yourself!

And yeah, that makes sense (your description of the Guards/ Lyrandar forces)...
Sounds like double the opportunities for corruption! :-)

Starlan's pretty much good to go, except I *SHOULD* actually figure out the number of "tricks" my Glidewing knows based on Handle Animal ranks, and maybe a few random synergies, like from Tumble... Maybe we can chat about his character a bit "out of character" as well...

No problem, have fun wherever you are.

I'm still working on the write-up of his group of friends (RL is going to be pretty hectic for me until the end of next week).

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Quandary. Don't hate me. But i am still writing up your piece. I wanted to let you know where I am with it, however. I'm also working on some drawings (however what I draw ends up looking like i held the pencil in my teeth).

However, i picture the halfling residencies something like this. I have a different design idea that is more...sleek, but I'm still working on that!

So! You did a good job in your writeup, and I'm trying to do it justice. Fair? Sorry to leave you out! But there will be lots of time for fun!

Hey, We're both online! :-)

Yeah, I have been checking periodically, but knew my write-up WAS pretty verbose, and also that you're running 2 (well, 3) of the other party members' Intro Threads (which seemed pretty verbose RP'ing when I peeked in), so it's totally understandable. And there's still Marla and Wolvenone's intro threads when I'm done, too :-).

I *LOVE* that photo you found (which reminds me of this cool book of really unique Japanse modern architecture I have in storage somewhere.) I had actually been thinking about it, and after I got the whole compound w/ garden idea, then wasn't sure where it would fit in Sharn, since it would need Sky access for the garden & my landing platform (I had even thought it would be necessary to locate it in some of the small shantytowns exterior but adjacent to Sharn proper.) But that Osaka design definitely seems the way to go.

I'm still really excited to play though!

The Exchange

As Alpha 3 has landed are we tweaking the characters to fit with the latest verion of the PFRPG rules?

*covets the new bloodline power being ranged rather than melee touch attack*

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Yes yes! Please tweak away!

Oooh Shiny!

Looks like the Rogue & Druid rules didn't really change much.

The Halfling stat bonuses were switched from INT to CHA,
but since it's pointbuy & I'm not really maxing either of those, I'll call it even...
(phew! Starlan gets saved from Re-Factorization!) :-)

Paul/ Dahn,
another contributor to the boards made up this alternate Fighter class build,
that you might want to think of using if Deerian is going for mostly Fighter: here

(playtesting that build could be useful for bringing it into the Paizo rules)

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Hey Quandary, I'm taking a look at the alternate fighter link now...

I'll let you know. In the meantime, Here is your freaking intro thread. I'm sorry to leave you out of the loop for so long. get it? Loop. Yeah.

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

He dahn, I finally got a quick write up of Sim's group of friends in his profile. Feel free to use them as plot hooks and exposition as you see fit.

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Great! You'll meet them soon!

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Would it be safe to say that Marla and Torin have maybe found another game? Or lost interest? You folks are more than welcome to jump in, I can start your PBP any time.

Though we have a group of 4 now, and that's fine with me. We'll move at our speed, and I hope that we can do some fun stuff! An all caster party is certainly very fun!

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

I went out and did some stalking, and Fleck (Marla's player) last posted on the 7th of May in the oringinal recruitment thread. Wolvenone (Torin's player) last posted on May 13th.
I'd be okay starting without them or waiting a (short) while.
I've never played in an all caster party, but it could be fun. Sim can serve as a substitute Rogue.

If Fleck ever shows up, we had KINDOF arranged a tie-in, that we had met among Druids in the Marshes, and she could look me up, so if she shows up later, we could fit her in that way.

I'm planning on going mainly Druid, but might just take my next level as Rogue, so I can get 2 feats at one time. I haven't put any ranks into Disable Device, and I think I just won't ever, so maybe Sim can make sure to cover that end, Arctaris?

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

Yes, I think that Sim already has Disable Device, and I'll keep it at a useful level.

Female Half Elf Sorceress 2

Disabling devices? Surely that's what spells are for.. or asking the owner of said device really nicely to disable it for us..

Nicely as in "Pretty please with sugar on top." or as in "dangling someone out a window" nice?

If I'm representing the house: the first one, if not: whichever works best!

Shadow Lodge

Are you guys enjoying the mini PBP's at all? I certainly am, but this is my first attempt at DMing a PBP, and my life is pretty hectic, so I really am trying my best.

I'm trying to take what you give me, and work it out, to make something of it. I hope that it will give me enough of a sense to make a killer game for everyone!

The Exchange

You know I'm loving it hon, I lose track of the number of times I've dropped subtle and some really not so subtle hints on you that I want more posts! It's a truly fantastic and addictive thread :P

I think it's totally great, and a great start for the game...
(since most games just 'meet' in a bar and go, it's above & beyond the call of duty!)

It must be alot of posting for you running, what, 3 threads at once, and they're all very descriptive, as well... So perhaps once we 'meet up', however we do, I would think that it it would be easier/faster since everyone's on the same thread, and the descriptive/RP text per player ratio can drop somewhat... So hopefully it should be somewhat faster as well.

(I know sometimes for me I just haven't felt like typing out the next response right away, since I wanted to make it colorful and personal... especially since it's setting the mood for my character... But certainly when we're on the same thread together, it won't hurt if every character's every post isn't super-verbose and descriptive, since we'll all carry along the story together.)

GO DAHN! :-)

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

I'm loving it so far; you're doing a great job making Sharn feel alive and I have a certain fondness for one player games.
Still, I'm looking forward to everyone getting on the same page; it'll be fun to see how everyone interacts and, like Quandry said, I imagine it'd be easier for you.

The Exchange

It's a fun game thats for sure. Keep up the good work.

Just a formatting note...

Could telepathic conversations and speech be done with the bold script?

Just to flatten everything out. The distinction will become very important, very quickly.

Thanks!

Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3

So, who's Irirangi? There's a Strange Loop intro thread for her. Did we pick up another player?
EDIT: Oh, we picked up Rev Rosey somewhere? When did that happen?

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Damn, you are quick.

I was hoping to keep that a secret for as long as I could. Turns out, 7 minutes is about as long as that.

Well, things are going to get a whole lot weirder, is all. I didn't think that adding Rev would be an issue as we lost two, other, less enthusiastic, players. And most on the board have a good rapport with her.

She's also been following along since day one, sending me messages here and there. Not to speak for her, but rather to invoke; I know that she recently picked up a book on Eberron, and hasn't really put it down. Combined with her excitement for this game, I couldn't say no, really.

Do you hate me for keeping secrets?

The Exchange

Female Human(ish) DM 1 / Housewife 1 / Zany RPer 3

Whee! We have a Rosey! Squee and the suchlike!

I don't mind having the Rev in the game at all, I was mostly just curious.

Human

I'm a shameless lurker. xDahnx very kindly asked if I wanted to join and yes, I jumped at it.

I promise this will be a memorable day for all. Rev's character just folded everything in on itself.

From the sounds of it, I'd say that now's as good a time as any.

You're worried? I'm really worried ... I have no clue what is planned for any of us.

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Trust that I've had this plan for a long time. I just had no idea it would take so long to implement it.

Getting there, getting there.

I thoroughly love the characters, and especially love tailoring each mini story to them.

In addition, I love what you can accomplish with a pbp. It's radically different from my tabletop games (where I have to SQUEEZE out every drop of roleplaying from my players or peers).

Likewise, the system of posting itself is to be folded in on itself, when the others join up.

This is maybe too meta, so I'll stop now.

Yay dungeons and dragons!

Come to England and run for our group, getting our characters to stop their arguements/discussions/randomness for long enough to deal with the plot can sometimes be a chore!

The Exchange

It's not a chore... it just means i can be really lax on prepping for a session! You guys just bicker and witter your way through a whole 4 hours :)

Yay! Everyone's together now! It's been almost a month in the making!

sorry to roll your save for you, arc, but i wanted to keep things going!
