What are your three favorite countries from the Gazetteer that you want to see more of, and why do you like them?
Jalmeray: Out of all the nations in the Gazetteer, this is the one that gave me the goosebumps. I could so clearly see the Vudran ships sailing in, and smell the sea air. Nicely done.
Numeria: I like some science in my fantasy, and this is a place where I can have it! As a bonus, it's the kind of place I could see my favorite Cimmerian hangin' around in. This place just screams sword n' sorcery pulpy goodness.
The Worldwound: The demons are here, they're tearing a hole in reality that's getting bigger, and they're barely being kept in check by an aging army of crusaders. Whaddya gonna do, "hero"?
Anybody else?

Varisia - This is probably due to how invested we are in it already honestly. The Varisians and Shoanti are the big draws for me here.
Osirion - Primarily for the ancient Egyptian vibe. And the possibility of a (good?) phaoronic rulership has me curious.
The Shackles - YARRRRRRRR! That and I'm very partial to stormy weather. But not so much mucky ground, so the Sodden Lands are right out.
Honorable mention: Neither country by itself, but Nirmanthas and Lastwall's relationship is really appealing to me. I'd really like to see the dynamics between them fleshed out, and possibly have their respective struggles escalate. I just love the idea of these two good nations of differing ethos fighting back to back.

Ooh! Ooh! Me next!
Rahadoum - Never before has a fantasy country just screamed, "PLEASE RUN A CAMPAIGN HERE!" for me. Godless country in a world where the gods are obvious and intrusive? Heck yeah!
River Kingdoms - Classic medieval gaggle of loosely-affiliated city states and baronies constantly fighting against each other or outside influences? Sounds like the perfect place for raucous adventuring to me!
The Mana Wastes - That lovely split of magic dead wasteland between Nex and Geb, well, I invented it! So it makes me feel giddy seeing it on the map. ;-)
Kruelaid |
Yah, Josh, I gotta admit the Mana Wastes look pretty cool.
I've got some serious interest in Qadira because I love the whole Persian thing.
And after that it's the Mwangi Expanse. I love jungle, and sweltering in your armour as you trudge through mud and crawl over bus sized tree roots really stirs me... and 10 foot visibility.

It's really hard to pick just three, every time I did I thought of another. So i picked the ones I think I would just like to read about the most.
The Worldwound
Mwangi Expanse
Galt - this one just scream French Revolution fantasy style. Which makes me curious what Paizo has in store for it.

I heartily agree on this one. Actually I'm about to try a campaign in this region (starting in Nirmathas and then moving north from there), so I too am curious about their relationship. Both are run by capable warrior types, so I'm sure there's lots of mutual respect. But I wouldn't think they get much chance to aid one another, what with their thinning manpower.
Some others:
Ustalav - I often like some traditional horror in my games, and this is a great place for it (and, in fact, is stated as such). The history involving the Whispering Tyrant is quite intriguing, and I'd love to see more about how his influence still affects the land.
Taldor - A crumbling empire makes a great backdrop for many sorts of adventures. I also think Taldor offers more moral ambiguity than the thoroughly evil Cheliax (though I like that one, too). I could see 'good guy' PCs on either side of the decline: Do they fight to preserve and restore the once-glorious empire, or do they work to deal the corrupt bureaucracy its death-blow and pave the way for something new?
Nidal - Thoroughly creepy and fun. Its unapologetically evil theocracy makes me think of the land of Stygia in the Conan stories (though I guess one could say the same of Cheliax).

Oh, and apologies for the barsoom chanting, but since my one-man crusade to get rakastas into Savage Tide failed, I have to do something to feel useful.
I play a Rakasta in STAP now. I am currently leading a group of 50 refugees from North Olman Isle to the Isle of Dread to repopulate the island and amass an army to avenge the Scarlet Brotherhood's massacre of everyone else. I will be king!!!

I don't have any.. mine didn't get shipped.. hopefully Cosmo is sending mine soon instead of making me wait until June. :(
Before anyone suggests it, yes I realize I COULD read the PDF, but I don't like reading from PDFs. I use them for quick reference and printing out the 1 or 2 pages I need when I don't need to carry the whole book.

Picking just three really is hard. I'm going to disallow Varisia as it has an unfair advantage at this stage.
Osirion- It's hard not to like considering my fascination with ancient Egypt. Even with out this it's still a fascinating country with an interesting history and so much potential.
Talador- Got to love the idea of the civilisation that effectively spread civilisation across avistan is now little more than a downward spiraling unimportant nation on the inner sea.
The Shackles- Pirate kingdom are normally good but the idea of the shackles being based in an area left alone by more sane explores is just great. I'm so hoping for an Adventure path here.
It really is hard just picking three. I'd put in an honourable mentions but it would probably list over three quarters of the countries.

My three countries :
Irrisen, the witch queen enclave : The white witch of the north seems like a great opponent. Even though the kingdom is evil, it feels like a place where diplomacy could be usefull to save the PCs life.
Cheliax and the gnome's settlement of Brastlewark : reading the gnomes description made them quite mysterious instead of funny.
Varisia because of it's political situation (Korvosa as an enclave of the Chelian empire, pirates, shoanti) and the Thassilonian ruins : campaign hooks everywhere !!

I know, I was sort of looking for info from people who have the book. I am currently researching revolutions around the world and would love to hear about Galt.

Galt and Andoran both had their own revolutions to break from Cheliax when it went all devil-worshipy. The problem is that while Andoran's revolution succeeded, Galt's has been stuck in a cycle of revolutions with new governments being torn down as quickly as they rise. It's just an endless, bloody chain of one group overthrowing the one in charge, being in charge, and then being blamed for all of Galt's problems by another group, rinse the guillotine and repeat.
I don't know how much more detail we can really give, since we don't want to just post Paizo's work on the forums for free.

Honestly, I like them all. Campaign ideas flow from them easily. So I'll just mention a few not getting a lot of love (yet) here:
Absalom (Isle of Kortos): the greatest city in Golarion (well, at least this hemisphere), centered as it is, is an obvious jumping off point for adventures. And how it managed to survive the various sieges of history, given it's relatively puny size, intrigues me. This is Golarion's equivalent of Greyhawk, geographically and culturally speaking, and it begs for fuller treatment.
Katapesh: another multicultural (at least in terms of mercantile activity) realm, the (literally) alien Pactmasters ruling this anything-goes land intrigue me to no end.
Razmiran: in a world of ascendant mortals, the idea of a nation led by a pseudo-deity sounds pretty cool. And I'm further intrigued by the Visions, and their masks.
But really, all the nations sound great and lend themselves easily to multiple campaign scenarios. Though if lots of people are interested in the Vudrans of Jalmeray, maybe I'll get to see some psionics love sooner rather than later :)

My Barsoomian Brother - you are not alone. I have been screaming BARSOOM every chance I get. So neither of us are the lone voices... I continue to wait for word on an AP on thered planet.

Rahadoum Because, yeah, its awesome.
Second I'd have to say The Mwangi Expanse, because River into Darkness and Crucible of Chaos were just too cool.
Lastly, Qadira, because I love that awesome flavor.
The Worldwound is pretty cool too, but I'm just coming off the tail end of playing STAP, and I'm honestly a bit Demoned Out.

In no particular order:
Mwangi Expanse - lost jungle cities = win
Nidal - I adore anything remotely involving shadow-type magic, and a Zon-Kuthon theocracy fits that rather well
Osirion - so much potential there
Worldwound - fiendish invasion of the material plane. That's a barbed hook dangling for me to bite it.

After reading through my pdf (thanks not having the book due to the shipping issue) my picks are:
Numeria Gamma World/Metamorphosis Alpha meets D&D love it!
The River Kingdoms Sevenarches in particular. You have to love druid-elf tensions threatening genocide, especially over gates to other worlds.
Ustalav love the ties to Varisia, love the Whispering Tyrant, and love the Slavik feel.
Uzzy |
Going by the descriptions here (No Gazetteer for me yet. :( ) I'd have to say that both the River Kingdoms and Taldor sound the most interesting places. Something about the fall of empires that appeals to me.
Do the River Kingdoms have a slightly Italian flavour, perhaps? The Italian city states have always fascinated me.
Particleman |
Hmmm.....tough one.
Worldwound: Love the whole crusade theme.
Numeria: The Conan books were my first taste of fantasy lit way back when.
Irrisen: Has that "Narnia" feel to it. That, and being next door to a bunch of grumpy vikings gives it great potential for funness.
Having said that, it's all good.

Well after reading Demon within, I'd start off with
WORLDWOUND
followed by
CHELIAX because its so evil and similar to the Roman Empire
However, my number one pick would have to be
VUDRA simply because I'm a Psionics fan and this is where Pathfinder places their psionic home
I find it difficult to limit my choice to only three. Thankfully, we can all look forward to a complete gazateer defining several of the Pathfinder kingdoms and hinting at more to come....
Mactaka |
The Shackles: I love stories about pirates. I was thinking when I read that if I could put Freeport or Sasserine down there
Lands of the Linnorm Kings: I really have an interest in norse-like cultures and setting a game in the frozen north (mmm..Frostburn!)
The Mwangi Expanze: It is so rare to have a developed African analog in an RPG. Looks like Golarion has one.
This book is awesome. Can't wait for the PFCS in August!
