My group just finished their 3rd attempt at Jorgenfist Fortress. At the end of the first session they were hiding in the mountains west of the fortress for the night. The next session they found their way through the caves and fought giants and dragons and lamia until they had to retreat to the caves. Then made their second attempt on the Fotress a couple of days later and were overwhelmed by more giants on guard duty and that attempt was short lived.

They teleported to Magnimar and licked their wounds. Their third session and attempt came today (Our sessions are long - usually 12 to 15 hours). This time they waited long enough that the giants were not on high alert and teleported into the area where they had killed the dragons before. They worked their way to the library level and it hell broke loose. We had a blast and they were challenged in a huge way. I had so much fun with this level of the adventure. They avoided all the above groud stuff and I hope they encounter some of it when they are finished below ground. They encountered the BB Stone Giant and were getting waxed.he cleric threw a spell that resulted in the giant being blind for a round so he fled not knowing he would recover so soon and it was because of his sepll selection it was difficult to bring him back (although I almost brought him in the door behind them with a few giants to help him out). One player had to go home for the night and if I brought him back we would have been at it for several more hours - so they again teleported to Magnimar. Maybe I should not have had him flee after being blinded but it seemed like the thing to do.

This chapter will take them at least four 12 hour sessions to complete and it has been a lot of fun for me. I have never played or DMed Against the Giants and this is a taste of what that might be like although more involved.

Thank you for such a great adventure.

Hey Shem, good post! I am about to start running this adventure in about an hour. What level were your PCs going in? What type of party composition? Sounds like it's going to be a fun adventure!

They were 9th at the beginning and are currently 10th and almost 11th. We have a Paladin, Favored Soul, Dragon Shaman, Wizard and a Monk. We had a Rogue but he decided to stay in the guard tower alone the night after they wiped out the giants there. Do not ask me why.

That player only joined us for one session and alas his poor character died at the hands of the Hill Giants.

I imagine that the PCs will return and track down the BB Giant and take him out this time being better prepared. Of course I am going to change the way of things this time around. I am thinking about two giants invisible in his lab this time to slow the PCs down a bit as they try to get to him. I also think that this time the fog will be already in place and permanent. A gift from his mentor...

Their fourth attempt is going to be even uglier than the first three. Ah, a good time was had by all.

Well, last night was the finale. The group decided to teleport right back into the BB Giants workroom. Of course, he had some security with him but they were prepared for his tricks and he could not work them in the same way he did previously.

The BB got away again but this time barely escaped with his life and fled to Xin Shalast. The giant tribes broke up and left the Fortress.

The group spent four days exploring the library (bypassed the Shining Child - that was interesting).

They decided to teleport to sandpoint instead of Magnimar when it was over. They went to talk to the sage there about the Old Light and found out about the sinkhole. They jumped right into the next chapter on their own without and prompting. I was surprised how attached to Sandpoint they really feel - although it is true that they grumble that everytime they return to Sandpoint something goes terribly wrong. Maybe that is why they prefer to live in Magnimar...

It was glorious...

My characters like Sandpoint too.
I am very excited about how they have taken to it
I am a teacher and my group is my recent grads
and this is their first real D and D experience
and they love it.
They really like Sandpoint. One of my characters is
in a relationship with Shalelu and another is studying
with Father Zarus at the church
and another is working for the Sherrif.

They are trying to buy some property in town

It's a little late now, Shem, but the BB giant shouldn't have escaped. When it becomes obvious that Mokmurian has failed him a second time,

Spoiler:
Karzoug takes control of his body, monologue's to the pc's, then kills Mokmurian himself.

Yes, I know... But they are on it. I could have gone that way. But we have a history of the bad guys getting away. Many have and you should see them when one more gets away.

Spoiler:
I could have gone this way but it also says that if he can he will try and use a limited wish to go to Xin-Shalast. He was down to 2 hit points and they didn't quite stop him. He dimension doored out and then used his wish. By the time the group came out of the library and was looking for him the giants had broken up and left the Fortress.
