I'm curious if anyone else is having romantic relationships with the NPCs

Lets see romance in game...(playing Burnt Offerings but set in Faerun)

Sol'Nae(elvin druid of Demeter)ex-lover of Sherrif Hemlock, curently engaged to Father Zantus.

Rory Vesserin(half elf scout)"spending time" with Titus Scarnetti's daughter.

Jane Casey(human fighter)just spends his time at The Pixies Kitten.

Alak Everdusk(drow cleric of Eilistraee)dating Hannah Veserin(Rory's mom),sliping of with Solsta Vinder,Katrine Vinder, and Shayless Vinder, has a thing for Sherrif Hemlock, spends the odd night with Savah Bevaniky, had a 1 night stand with Hayless Korvaski, spent a couple of nights with Jasper Korvaski and Cyrdak, and is seducing Ameiko's girlfriend Rynshinn (with her consent),wants to hook up with Shalelu,
eyes the partys druid with intrest and wouldn't mind spending time with Rory(ain't gonna happen)...oh and this is my wifes charecter!!

Oh almost forgot he managed to get the twins Arika and Aneka Avertin in bed (but then decided "he couldn't commit to the sweethearts")

We've allways enjoyed relations in game and I try not use them agaist my players( but in the case of this drow how can I not!! )

In the RotRL I'm currently running, Del Wesh, a PC Cleric of Cayden Cailean ended up getting into a relationship with Shalelu and she's been with the party ever since.

As a GM, I'm baffled. It's really really strange.

Every single time he gets hit by an attack, she'll crit and roll obscene damage against whatever she's shooting at. Nobody at the table can explain it. It just... happens.

Stranger, every single time he's cast a spell with a range of touch on her, she'll flub the skill check/attack roll with a natural one.

Under any other circumstances, the dice roll normally.

Needless to say, this was the basis of many a joke at the table.

This has continued for at least a dozen sessions already. The party at this point now considers pushing the cleric in front of enemies during fights as a perfectly valid tactic.

My cleric of Sarenrae has spent a month swooning a shopkeeper from Magnimar (we rescued her store from rampaging monsters, and unstatued her). The idea is that our baby will be my Crimson Throne character.

Liberty's Edge

My cleric of Iomedae during burnt offerings after a few changes to the story by my GM fell for a Captain of the guard camming from Magnimar (during Burnt Offerings)... who in reallity was Nualia trying to measure her enemies strenghts after killing the real captain, and decided to try to corrupt the young priestess...

she didn't it well when she found it... later in Thristletop they battled to the death in what was a very dramatic scene... since none both tried to change the ways of the other without having to kill her... didn't work though... theyw ere dutybound to their goddesses...

later she fell for Orik (sensing he was not evil, she spared him from death... since he could go away, he offered to help him latter if he helped her finish Thristletop, since then they both had become quite close)

That doesn't sound safe at all. But it is ironic.

In my campaign, lessee...

Elven Druid fell for Ameiko, and is currently about to lose her as she leaves to go on the Jade Regent quest.

Shoanti Barbarian managed to turn Xanesha good. They found a ritual that allowed her to beg forgiveness from Pharasma, essentially and gave up her Lamia-ness. She is now a human Arcane Duelist (Bard Archetype) with perform (storytelling/oratory.) They don't know that she is pregnant yet.

Elven Mobile Fighter/Assassin is infatuated with Lucretia, which she uses to no end of her enjoyment! She has made his life a living hell...

Human Monk fell for an advanced simulacrum of Alaznist, but that didn't work out very well.

My goodness!

Back when I first read "Burnt Offerings" I wondered if the Shayliss encounter went anywhere in any campaign. I didn't realize that this thread existed. This thread must have dropped off the radar (that is, the main "messageboards" page) mere WEEKS before I read Burnt Offerings.

Well, now, after two years, I finally know. In fact, there's more stuff in this thread than I have time to read!

Liberty's Edge

I wouldnt call it love but in the campaign Im running my players turned the townhouse in Magnimar into a brothel and the barbarian does dirty things with the Mayors daughter when they are in the city.

Sovereign Court

Three of the PCs in my campaign got married.
Two of the PCs have had extra marital affairs at some point.

Spoiler:

Guess who is winning lust points ?

We're fast approaching the final battle in RotLR, and in our group...

Pippen the Half-Elf rogue was the target of Shayliss's charms. He had a short fling with her and she got pregnant. He was killed and reincarnated as a dwarf, and wants nothing to do with her or his daughter. He's now an Assassin, meanwhile Shayless thinks he's dead, and their daughter, Pippa, is incredibly popular around Sandpoint

Ameretti the Elf Druid has shacked up with Shalelu in a girl-girl thing. Seems like long nights alone in the Hinterlands can do that to a woman. Shelelu's step dad is now based in Sandpoint, and even though he doesn't fully approve, he's happy for them both

Finally, two PCs, Brandon the Knight of Magnimar (actually a dwarf but with the appearance of a human, thanks to Desna) and Viv the Human Spherewalker are partners. Works well for roleplaying her dream link ability.

I think this AP lends itself well to a little bit of loving...

Grand Lodge

Hm. So far none of our group has had any romances with the NPCs, but they've definitely been involved.

Mind you, one of our party is a 15-year-old druid who is the illegitimate child of Sheriff Hemlock and Kaye Tesarani.

The druid is currently in a love triangle with our dashing idiot fighter and an original NPC apprentice bard.

We've also recruited Orik as our captain of guards for Fort Ranek and keep trying to recruit other NPCs to work for us there.

Actually, because of the connection to the Pixie's Kitten Kaye came out to visit the fort and we've opened up an auxiliary brothel/restaurant named the 'Pixie's Kitchen' nearby. (This is part of an ongoing attempt to make Fort Ranek and Turtleback Ferry an important trade stop.)

Now I'm disappointed that none of us have started up romances with the NPCs... but most of the NPCs are human, and most of our party is not.

The Exchange

What we need is an awesome adventure arc where a Dragon who likes to watch everyone using a crystal ball developes a fascination for a level 1 female PC and begins interacting with her...like having her arranged marriage assassinated...romance her by sending her the heads of her childhood enemies on a silver platter...with a plan to claim her as his fifteenth wife and spawn half dragon offspring.

Liberty's Edge

I was playing a pc who was guilt into engagement into marrying shayliss (Darn you yoda for eating that guy's head!)

The ranger in our group had a baby girl (named Fleyka) with Shalelu... The fighter of our group married miss Vinder, the storekeeper's daughter (who became baroness as he is the baron of fort Rannick). And the wizard (a Thassilonian archeologist) has a romantic involvment with a survivor from the Wrath section of the Runeforge (go figure...).

Ultradan

In our Rise of the Runelords campaign, I am playing a paladin of Saranrae. Our group decided not to attack Orik outright and he ended up working with us (for a price). After many long talks, my character convinced him to come and teach the young militia in Sandpoint and from there, a relationship developed.

They are quite sweet actually.

It helps, I suppose, that the DM is my boyfriend.

Development update:

The Shoanti Barbarian that had a relationship with a "re-incarnated" Xanesha (Human Arcane Duelist) has just found out that she was pregnant (and hiding the fact from the entire group.) Of course, he found out when a former PC (player lost interest and character became an NPC, who turned on them to serve Karzoug) tore the child from her womb with magic, during their trip through the Halls of Avarice in the Runeforge.

Now X is dead, but after the barbarian crushed the ex-PC's skull, he found that the baby is alive... now what role will the child play? Only I know... ^.^

For the last 7 sessions 1 of my player's character has had an ongoing relationship with the actress Allishanda. However, all is not great. His sorcerer is growing tired of her self centered attitude and thinking about ending it rather than pretend to fawn over the diva. Which would be an excellent idea, because what he doesn't know is that in my game...

:
Allishanda is Xenesha's alter ego (using alter self) who was origionally going to harvest his soul and turn his skin into a mask, but had second thoughts as the relationship progressed. If he dumps her its going to be all sorts of WIS drain and charms until the sacrifice comes to pass. If they fight at the bell tower before he ends it, maybe she'll have a little heart and avoid hurting him unless neccessary. Even crazy cultist snake people need love.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner.

I'm writing this down.

Awh, my poor Varisian Sorceress with the Dreamspun bloodline just got told by our party Cleric of Torag that she shouldn't be happy - in her mind (Wis 9!). She was working on establishing something more than a friendship with the cute half elven barbarian boy (another PC), but apparently wanting to make him happy isn't going to make her happy or some adult stuff she didn't really understand.

Aldern Foxglove has expressed interest, but party cleric (who is a dwarf, btw) has said that it's just his mind that snapped and the young gentleman only thinks that he is attracted to my sorceress.

So, yeah. Is pretty lonely at level one for my sorceress.

No. Even in fantasy games, I get rejected. :(

Scarab Sages

I have been playing ROTRL with the same group, for over a year now. We are at 12th level, and getting ready to enter the Runeforge.

My character, a Shoanti Bard/Barbarian pursued Shalelu from the moment she appeared in Burnt Offerings, even going so far as to take a level of Ranger to impress her.

She finally gave in somewhere after the retaking of Fort Rannick, and they became an item.

Unfortunately, my GM is evil and has had her kidnapped by Karzoug, while pregnant with my child. Karzoug appeared to our group after killing Mokmurian and told us as much.

Ooh, well, your GM could have been TRULY evil and done what I did to my Shoanti Barbarian...

Similar Scenario:
My barbarian actually got involved with a reformed (and now, Human) Xanesha. (It's a long story) But she became pregnant with his child, but hid the knowledge from him, especially with bulky clothing as they went in search for the Runeforge. An ex-PC and agent of Karzoug captured her and tore the baby from her womb Telekinetically right in front of him.

Needless to say, he was both shocked and well, enraged. He ended up crushing the agent's skull in his bare hands. The player came up to me and said later that he did not see that coming...

SIDESWIPE!!!

I was, and my goal is to make this campaign one of the most memorable that my friends ever play... am I accomplishing that goal? I certainly hope so...

The child is still alive, and the Shoanti Barbarian, just took it to his clan (Clan of the Spire) while they prepare for the final assault on Karzoug... ^_^

Glad you liked it! Now is that coming from a player's perspective, or GM's?

Mostly as a GM. As a player I like to see these things happen to other people, as I tend to find myself a nice comfortable comic relief role at the game table, and it's really fun to play off of them.

A fellow player was having his family killed off by a vengeful, sadistic brother. They turned out to be illusions and simacrulums, and the entire charade was essentially our GM knocking our dickish party wizard down a few pegs so he'd stop lightning bolting his party members. Things took a turn for the hilarious when we assaulted a vampire-run brothel to find his mother as one of the beasts.

While slapping some gold on the countertop and rolling a grapple check was all well and good, I liked to play up my characters overall sliminess and made a big deal out of cheering him up afterwards. Arm around the shoulder, explaining how there's no shame in it, 'onest, I come from a long line of soiled doves m'self. Me maam and me maam's maam. I forget most of the exchange, but it was a lot of fun

... that said the dead baby jokes may be verging a little on the macabre side.

... Karzoug as the Runelord of Midwifery has potential, I must admit. :P

Not only did my RotRL character have a relationship with Ameiko, but there was a year-and-a-day handfasting kind of promise made during Hook Mountain Massacre. This was a problem, because my character came from a fairly well-to-do noble family in Iadara. There was an elf gate assisted side quest to Kyonin for a family emergency between Hook Mountain and Fortress, and an engagement with a baseborn human did not impress dad or elder brother.

Now it turns out Ameiko's not so baseborn after all. I expect an apology from dear old dad. :D

Aldern Foxglove was successfully wooing the female paladin in our party during Act I of Burnt Offerings, but creepily pushed it a bit far (tried to invite her to his room; later had several dozen flowers delivered to her room; later paid to have the Rusty Dragon staff draw a hot bath with expensive bath oils for her...) She called it off, and he left Sandpoint in a bit of a huff.

Katrine Vindler and the party barbarian got together in the "Shopkeep's Daughter" encounter in "Burnt Offerings." Yes, the father caught them, yes, he managed to Bluff/Diplomacy his way out of it (by rolling a natural 20 and a 19), and the two are still having a physical relationship.

Spoiler:
I used Katrine instead of Shayless for this encounter because I thought that it would be better dramatic tension when we got to Skinsaw Murders. She's going to dump the barbarian hard for her other lover Banny Harker about three days before her fatal encounter with the Skinsaw Man. This won't go well for the PC.

I've also implied that there's something going on between Ameiko and Shalelu, but they're just close friends.

My wizard (see my profile) was romantically involved with Ameiko. Unfortunately, our campaign went on hiatus when the GM was laid off in July, which now looks to be permanent, with two of the players unable to return and the GM wanting to run something else. We'd gotten up to the opening chapter of "Fortress of the Stone Giants," in which the giant attempting to carry Ameiko off discovered that pissing off an Evoker with Overland Flight and a CL 11 Wand of Scorching Ray is far more painful than any prisoner is worth, and "Put her down -- gently -- and you get to live" is excellent advice. The GM worked the relationship into my character's reaction to the Suicidal Compulsion haunt. The party had determined fairly quickly that the best way to deal with haunts is to make the squishy wizard you scout -- he has a good Will save, and is easily grappled by the huge Shoanti fighter when he does succumb to one.

I wrote up our experience of the Glassworks fight as a short fan-fic, which you can read here in the unlikely event you're interested. I'll have to revise it if I ever get around to expanding on it (something I'm seriously considering now the campaign's dead -- I really like that character, and don't want to let him go just yet). Jade Regent apparently ret-conned Ameiko and Tsuto's relative ages to make him her older brother, and her only thirteen at the time he hit her -- all the more traumatic.

The Shayliss incident went nowhere in our game -- she did get the Shoanti ranger into the basement, but he made the Perception check to hear her father coming, and managed to bluff his way out. (He muttered something about a "dire minx" when the cleric inquired about the size of the basement's rats.) There's a bit more about the party and early incidents in our game here, here, and here. The second one provides a bit more context to Kavren's relationship with Ameiko -- I'm rather pleased with the reply I composed to the Goblin Song, which just happens to match the tune of Heather Alexander's The March of Cambreadth.

Lot of fun stories going here. I'm curious if anyone's ever had PCs actually take up on the interspecies romance "hooks" offered by Undrella the harpy (Legacy of Fire) or Greta the winter wolf (Reign of Winter)? I don't know, might just be me, but I always thought those hooks offered a lot of potential for a party willing to take the bait.

Well I can't speak for others, but with my current RotRL character I'm in talks with the GM about possibly having a romantic relationship with the ice nymph in chapter 6. We're still not anywhere near there though so it's just a theoretical at the moment.

(I'm GMing it for another group, so I chat with my GM on various spoilery things and try to help make plot points more interesting where I can)

Grand Lodge

I am also running RotRL and unfortunately the part with Shayliss never happened, the party member who I was going to use her to get more into RP didn't show that day. Shalelu has flirted with the monk in my party in front of her step-dad Jakardos, that makes some pretty awkward moments lol.

A game I am in my character has a drug addicted witch that he keeps around for heals and what not. My character is evil so he is just using her. In one battle she was healing my char and then when he fell unconscious instead of continuing to heal him she looted him for the drugs it was comedy!

In a PFS game my 7 CHA barbarian ended up taking 2 of the rich merchant daughters home out of spite (thanks to the oracle insulting them both on the date) and then died the next day due to color spray spam and coup de grace. Then I played with the same oracle character as my barbarian's progeny. The oracle got to tell him all about his old man, that was cool.

The one peeve I do have about it is when a character constantly tries to pick up every female NPC on the planet. It detracts from the rest of the party and the constant fade to black scenes get old after a while.

Paizo Employee

Our fighter/paladin is involved with Shayliss, with every intent of marrying her once they've defeated Karzoug. In the meantime, she's implicitly allowed to do whatever she wants while he's out of Sandpoint.

He's a Sandpoint native, so the first time he met Shayliss's father, he loudly shamed her father for being so protective about one daughter while leaving the other to run around and do what she wanted. And got something ridiculous on his Intimidate check, making the older man cry. That whole exchange got a little awkward in retrospect...

We also have a new player who took over Shalelu and frequently stays with her "old adventuring companion" Ameiko.

Cheers!
Landon

My Runelords online game is now three sessions in, fourth tomorrow. One PC, Kendra Deverin's nephew Caspian Deverin (a Magnimar lawyer!) is sharing Ameiko's bed at the Rusty Dragon, but she doesn't let him go much beyond kissing & cuddling - and since he probably bats more for the other side, I think that suits him ok. :) It's more a childhood friendship turned playful 'romance', combined with a useful political alliance for them both.

Another PC, Dalibor, had been getting friendly with Shalelu Andosana the very reserved elven goblin-huntress, he had come from Fort Rannick seeking her instruction in wilderness skills, as part of his long term plan of revenge on the stone giants who wiped out his family. But since he then got seduced by fan groupie Shayless Vinder last session, I suspect that's put a stop for now on any Shalelu/Dalibor romance.

Ah, love in Rise of the Runelords. Well, we've got a few storylines in that vein.

One is a dwarf fighter/cleric PC who has fallen for Alma, the baker. For various reasons in our campaign, she and her daughters are dwarves rather than humans. She's much older than he is, of course (he's close to her late son's age) so it has been a very slow romance. Arika is currently adventuring with the party for a side-quest, so protecting his possible step-daughter is a high priority.

Another PC hooked up with Shayliss in traditional style (and unbeknownst to him, has impregnated her). Not only does her father dislike him, but one of the other PCs is a Vinder(!) and also disapproves. Shayliss was sent to a Magnimar boarding school to keep the two of them apart, which has prevented Venn from finding out about the "problem" as of yet. This same PC has got a crazed ex-girlfriend (one of the ladies from the baudy house) who often interferes with his personal life.

A slightly lust-prone PC has had trysts with Hemlock's brother and a creepy gnomish shopkeeper, but has kept it to the sinning.

A fourth PC (the aforementioned Vinder) was pursuing Ameiko, but hasn't gotten anywhere with it.

Had a PC, the roguish Captain Lance Harcourt, seduce a Scarnetti maid in the water closet during pre-opera dinner at the Scarnettis, in the game yesterday! And Lance's girlfriend Jana Vex was at the dinner too! :-O
My group are racking up the Sin points! >:)

IMC there's also an NPC-NPC affair going on between Tsuto Kajitsu and Titus Scarnetti's sister Alicia, his former teacher at Turandarok Academy. Bringing in Tsuto early is working very well so far, gives me a chance to use his backstory. In general I've been looking for ways to get much of the backstory info into play, otherwise it feels wasted.

My players interact and romanticize with the NPCs fairly regularly.

My DM-PC is actively trying to court Ameiko, and is finally starting to get some headway (her saying yes to dates and spending time with him)

Our Elven Alchemist is awkwardly flirting with Shaelu, the two of them not particularly good at expressing their interests, though things are going well. The bard tends to try to help things along.

Our female cleric decided to herself to give Foxglove a try after he spent the better part of an afternoon fawning over her. Now she's regretting her decision

WHY?:
As he is now undead and stalking her...

Our Shoanti bard gets around, though Shayliss is one of his main cohorts, after expertly navigating the situation in her basement with her father. He doesn't have any particular ties to anyone, but doesn't hesitate to capitalize on opportunities with the NPCs.

Our other two players remain unattached, but it actually fits their characters fairly well. Our drunken monk is everyone's favorite drinking buddy, but no one is a better friend to him than a bottle of booze. Our elven rogue is quiet and mysterious, not letting on much to her activities or past, if Shaelu didn't vouch for her, I doubt the group would trust her as much as they do.

Our party has had relationships with many of the NPC's. My female witch character was with Ameiko for quite some time...

Shard (all the modules are running into each other - this snippet might belong in Shattered Star section):
The pinnacle of the campaign occurred when we picked up the Shard of Lust. Our half-orc barbarian by that point had developed quite a reputation for being lusty, prolific, and pretty much chasing anyone that moved. Suffice to say, the shard had minimal effect on him.

"How do I roleplay this? It's pretty much the same as always!"

My archer put an arrow through Bruthuzmus, killing him. He knew of Shalelu's running grudge with the guy and used his heroism to get his foot in the door.

He neglected to mention the sorcerer also had a big hand in it, but as the Sorcerer is a creepy old Elf (player wanted the bonuses to int, wis, cha) he likely wouldn't have been able to woo her anyhow.

Wait second. There's only one of me and no one has tried to have a romantic relationship with me. Question answered. Mystery solved. You can all go home now.

Just finished running the Shadow Clock and the party's "battle" with Xanesha did not go according to plan, to say the least. The party's bard decided it wise to seduce the lamia matriarch and, unfortunately for myself as the GM, ended up having relations with her due to an unfortunate string of crit fails on my end. Meanwhile, he currently has the heart of Shayliss Vinder who is studying arcane magic in the First World to appear later as his cohort.

My ex ended the campaign married to both Aldern Foxglove and Tsuto Kaijitsu, whom she had fought hard to keep alive and redeem (also resurrect in Aldern's case). She's written out their future together, their 13 kids, and has had a lot of professional art done of the three of them (also she herself is an artist and makes art of them on occasion). I'm ecstatic I was able to provide that level of emotional investment for her.

Silver Crusade

Best RotR NPC romance story in our group so far: the party's rogue referred to the quasit as his girlfriend. The party was able to capture her but not kill her. The party's wizard stuffed her into a jar to deal with later, and Tiberius tried really, really hard to steal her "back" from him.

Others:
The party's psychic (Rickety), a gnome, was involved with Shayliss for a long while, but she left him for a Scarnetti boy.

The party's cleric (Kivvit) has hooked up with the party's wizard (Davor). But she did almost let something happen with Kaven after he flirted with her over rapier practice. She wasn't into Aldern Foxglove even though she seemed to be the object of his obsession--but she was nice to him, which may have encouraged him on some level.

(We played through a very "cinematic" Jade Regent where Shalelu got involved with a character. It seemed no one wanted to potentially court Shalelu in RotR because she was supposed to marry Darius in Jade Regent! Similar situation with Ameiko I think--she was going to allow Seamus into her heart later on. Man that was a great campaign for our group.)
