Patrick, my apologizes if this has already been answered, are we using the max-hit-die-plus-racial-mod-at-first-level and then rolling at 2nd and 3rd for hit points, or one of the other methods?

So the racial HP bonus from p 11?

hey patrick need to make a knowledge sigil check to find some fake ID's and disguise kit.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

LOL ... that is what I get for posting on the fly. Niel, we were using the Standard HP gen from pg. 11 of Pathfinder, I thought when I quik scanned your entry that is what you were implying, but I can see that I was mistaken. That reads as MAX+CON mod+misc mods. I do not think we need a racial bonus. If anyone would like to try the racial mods, I can be persuaded, just let me know what the consensus is. I figured just plain vanilla standard for the moment.

Seeker: What type of fake IDs are you looking for? If you are looking for false papers that is fine, but there are few areas where you will need papers. Letters of safe passage, letters of introduction, etc. etc. But no one has identity papers in Sigil. As for the disguise kit, no problems. your NPC contact Veria would be happy to sell you one. She has many 'roleplaying' LMAO supplies in stock, including a standard disguise kit.

Niel, under the posting box here there is a little spoiler button that says BBCode tags you can use. That's where I figured out all my posting tricks. Also, when you roll dice at Invisible Castle, at the bottom of the page is a preset BBCode of the rolls. Just CTRL+C and then CTRL+V it onto your posting for a quik link I can see.

NPCs are half the fun of a good RPG, that's why I love to DM, I get to play everybody

Yep NPC creation and story work is my favort part of dming.I started pbp because i havent got to be a player in ..5 yrs or so, so my player skills are rusty.

I'm using racial HP in my PBP. I'll let you know what I think in a few weeks.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

In the matter of HPs I would like to send you against a few things to see how your party's actual force level is first before we decide on any extra from racial bonuses. The planes are a dangerous area, we might decide that the extra HPs would make the game go quicker, but I think we will just stay with the Standard for now and adjust later if neccessary. Keep me posted on how it works out in your game Kruelaid.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

sure were gonna be adjusting anyhow no biggi.

oh just to warn ya karrins gonna be paying her a visit have fun with it. oh i for got to mention but Veria is a sensate ...LOL have alot of fun with poor innocent kerrin.

Hehe. OMG the DM harrasment! Poor Patrick.

Some friends and I made a RPG when I was 15 called Vamphunter, and we had this whole chart for lighting matches, it was pretty hilarious.

Eir wants matches for fluff purposes, but there's always that slim chance they will actually be needed.

My favorite smoking scene in a movie: Tybalt played by John Leguizamo in Romeo and Juliette. May Leo DiCaprio burn in hell forever. <Crosses himself>.

Funny you should mention the name Mercutio. One of the NPCs you will soon be meeting is called that. Ah the synchronicity of the Great Wheel.

Speaking of Romeo and Juliette, a group rivalry or feud would go really well in this kind of game.

I thought Mercutio was a bit naff to be honest, but I did like the Friar being a bit of a hippy, sort of explained why he came up with such daft ideas.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

The NPC Melchion I detailed would be a good place to buy the lucifers. I would imagine them to be fairly pricey ... say a group of 20 for 25 GP? They would come in a simple round steel container to limit humidity exposure.

As for a Romeo and Juliette scenario, that is a very good idea! DM strokes pointed goatee thoughtfully HMMMMMMMMMM.....

As long as we agree on Leguizamo doing a brilliant Tybalt.

Invisible castle rolling of hit die accomplished.

No racial bonus to hit points is fine by me- hit points are for when you make a mistake and get in the line of fire (at least when you weigh 34 lbs).

Next proposed npc (if you don't mind psionics- feel free to deny):

When Greep visited Melchion to introduce himself (and check into the availabilty of a quality blue skin dye- as cantrips only last so long and his last whole-body dye job was long ago), Melchion was interested in seeing his tattoo. Greep had purchased the psionic tattoo from Polynesia's staff as part of his hiring, though Lady P. had done the renewals for free. The tattoo had allowed Greep to journey with the caravan, but he had never had the chance to use up the last casting.

Melchion was at first interested in the tattoo, having heard of magical effects of a similiar nature, but lost interest when he realized it was just the standard, but unusual psionic version.
"I don't deal with that mind s--t, but I know who does. Cuddles, get off my daybook so I can get the cutter the address."
"And give Bess my best when you see her. Tell her to let me know when she next makes the black forest cake- I'll be sure to get right over."

The address wasn't hard to find, being close to Thread Alley, which Greep was already familiar with. It led Greep up three flights of rickety stairs to a long attic. When he knocked cautiously on the door, He was suprised to be confronted by a goblin- a blue goblin. In his surprise he exclaimed, "You're blue like me!" -greep-eep- and fell bacwards, ending up on a landing below.
Howls of laughter surrounded him as five seperate versions of the first blue vision helped him up and healed his newly bruised rotor muscle.
They introduced themselves collectively as Quint, and after discovering that Melchion had sent him, they invited Greep in to share tea and stories (and mushroom ale). Quint went on to explain that Blue Goblins occasionally were born into ordinary Goblin tribes and were psionic. The six of them hit it off, sharing tales of others first impressions of them and the fun had with such. (They couldn't help him with dye as their blue-tinged skin was natural.) Since then, Quint has welcomed Greep whenever he has been to visit.
Quint earns a living as a psionic caster for hire, also dealing in psi gear; much as Melchion does with more normal magic, but without the public store front.
Blue Goblins can be found in the 3.0 Psionic Handbook. They are a psionic racial mutation of Goblin.
(I'm going under the psionics-as-just-another-magic rule, so psi is flavor and style but not overly powerful. As I do not plan on being a psionic, we shouldn't need much in the way of Pathfinder conversions.)

Niel: excellent NPC. I am not very hip on psionics, but I do have access to that book, so I will peruse the Blue Goblin entry. Are they a shared mind in five bodies? Intersting concept. I would assume you will see more of Quint.

husband half Italian Expert 15 (carpenter 5/ gamer 5/ reader 5)

Hey, I just pour them out of my brain- I don't ask them questions:)

If I had to guess, I'd say either telepathic quintuplits or a group mind- but really, whatever fits your own vision.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Niel: Perused the Blue entry in the Expanded Psionics Handbook. Didn't see anything out of style for a Sgil NPC (then again what is?). I am giving you a little background of Quint that you learned while quaffing mushroom ale.

Quint is a 'failed' experiment of the insidious Illithids. These tentacled horrors are always trying to breed docile psionic slaves to pad their armies with. Quint's mother was cruelly experimented on, with the focus being to have multiple births of psionically strong creatures. It unfortunately worked out that the young quintuplets had such a strong telepathic bond from infancy that they effectively never developed individuality. The illithids had inadvertently created a hive mind goblin. The 'failure' was still intriguing enough that the Illithids allowed Quint to develop into young Goblinhood.

Unfortunately for the Illithids, and fortunately for Quint, their laboratory fortress was raided and destroyed by a Githyanki force. Quint escaped the destruction and wandered for a while, learning about the intricacies of the Great Wheel and doing a bit of Astal travelling. He/They eventually settled in Sigil, since the Cage welcomes any, no matter how strange. Quint is currently looking to open his own shop, but he/they are wary of drawing too much atttention to himself/themselves.

Quint can operate individually, but any individual goblin body will not willingly go farther than a mile or so from the rest of its' 'brothers'. Quint can experience anything any of the bodies do, the five Blues are the fingers of one hand. If for any reason one of Quint's bodies should be dragged away farther than a mile, it goes into epileptic seizures and eventually coma and death. Naturally Quint is very careful about the many portals the Cage sports!

Unlike most Goblins, Quint is actually relatively Neutral in outlook. He knows little about regular Goblins, and doesn't feel much racial solidarity. He/They are currently trying to develop his/their impressive psionic powers to a higher level.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Niel: Quick question. Where are you getting the info on astral caravans and Lady Polynesia? Is this just fluff you are making up or is there a source?

husband half Italian Expert 15 (carpenter 5/ gamer 5/ reader 5)

Expanded Psionics Handbook:

Astral Caravan (psychoportation) (pg76)
Level: Nomad 3
Display: none
Manifesting Time: 1 hour
Range: personal
Targets: you and touched willing creatures
Duration: see text
Power Points: 5
You lead a caravan into the astral Plane, leaving the Material Plane behind. Since the Astral Plane touches upon other planes, you can travel astrally to any of these planes as you wish, but only if you know your way. ( a full page of details follows)
Augment: If you spend 2 additional power points, the power weaves a quasi-real filmy membrane around yourself and all those adjacent to each other in the caravan. (more details follow)

Astral Travelar (psychoportation) (pg 78)
Level: psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1
Display: none
Manifesting time: 1 hour
Range: touch
Target: creature touched
Duration: see text
Saving throw: will negates (harmless)
Power resistence: yes (harmless)
Power points: 1
This power allows you or a creature you touch to particapate in an astral caravan through the use of the 'astral caravan' power. (details follow)

When I read this in the Handbook, my first thought was 'that's another way to take to the planes'. Unfortunately, no one locally was interested in playing a planescape game. So when I joined the Silver Rose and was writing a background, it came back to mind.

Polynesia also came from my head. I thought if greep had traveled to the planes, he would have to have someone to provide the travel power. So Lady Polynesia ( cause I like kenku and Dr Dolittle was on tv ) was born- kenku trader who employs a psionic caravan master to power her trading ventures.
I had no thought of having lady P. show up again in game, but if you want to use her or her caravan, feel free. I was just looking for a background that would leave greep with little planar experience and few prospects at a place to where he could join the game. This also dictated that he spend almost all of his starting cash on stuff he couldn't really sell, so he'd be desperate to have Renkar hire him.
With Pathfinder allowing unlimited cantrips, mending and prestidigitation made him able to clean and repair. (BTW- Greep holds a slight grudge against Eir and the Bariuar since he had to clean the room after their tryst:)

If you are the least uncomfortable with any of this, please don't hasten to say so- it won't bother me and I can redo any of the details of Greep's background until you're more comfortable with them.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

No Niel, I appreciate the input. The details are just fine, I just wanted to know if it was canonical or homebrew. I always enjoy taking bits of my players input and weaving them into the whole. Lady Polynesia looks like someone you might meet at some point. If we keep this going long enough I would love to send you all to the Silver Realm to tour the bodies of the dead gods and take sword against the Githyanki. If you are interested in moving Greep to more of a psionically-oriented flavor, I would be willing to try. I have both the Expanded Psionics Handbook and the Complete Psionic book. I have never done a psionic character, but part of this exercise is to push boundaries, so I am up for the challenge.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I don't suppose there's any room for another player? I see you're pretty packed - I've loved Planescape ever since the first boxed set in 1994.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

At this point Fabes I haven't really even figured out if I am going to be an effective PbP DM! LMAO I will say I am willing to put you on the alternate list with Rev Rosey. I'd love to have you onboard, perhaps if the shakedown cruise adventure goes well I will open the group up to a few more entrants. Thanks for the interest though!

husband half Italian Expert 15 (carpenter 5/ gamer 5/ reader 5)

Nah, i like the flavor of psionics, but other than some psi-based gear, I'd prefer to stick with Pathfinder stuff. With new stuff possible every few weeks, we'll have enough to keep up with and don't need to convert psionics. When I can afford it, I will probably buy some more psionic tattoos or something else but nothing that will reguire us to generate new rules. Different just makes it Planescape.

BTW, one of my previous posts seems to be missing- I was answering your three questions. To repeat my answers-
No prestige class for me- two base classes are enought with Pathfinder.
Factions aren't for me- like Kruelaid said, planescape, pathfinder, and the silver rose are enough to join at once, I don't need a faction.
I'll do at least one more npc soon (i'm thinking a tout, sort of a Baker Street Irregular type).

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

For the players:

Many of the NPCs you come into contact with, especially the higher-ups in the social scene, will have a name like Sha'Hagmid, Hal'Oight, Ser'Kinnmed, etc. This is an indication the NPC is from one the born-and-bred Cage merchant aristocracy families. Many of these families came from a long-forgotten Prime world centuries (if not millenia) ago and have made their way to the mercantile halls of power over time. They are clannish, and they tend to look down at the 'Portashores' surrounding them in the Cage.

Just a little misc. fluff for you all.

Yay fluff! <3 Oh also, is it alright if I swap out Swift's 'Halfling' for 'Celestial' as a language considering one of the NPCs I made?

Not an issue Kayos, switch away! That language will come in more handy anyway.

Having halfling might have been useful if you wanted to pretend you were a halfling. I know Karrin is likely to ask you what type of creature you are.

She's still likely to claim she's a halfling but never learnt her ancestral language for various reasons [insert lots of lies over being raised by humans and having other blood in her (possibly claiming some celestial blood as that just sounds cool) here]

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

MMMMKay ... set up time!

As characters you have a couple of options:

1. Spend the day preparing at the Copper Cauldron Inn and/or sparring with Renkar at the Silver Rose. (basic handwaving stuff, I am leaving this open for whomever wants to not post until we are underway)

2. Explore Sigil a bit to get those last-minute purchases (Thrugnipp I know you have to pick up your claws, consider them ready at Peak. Anyone else I would be happy to Roleplay out a little flavor bit before we settle down to brass tacks)

3. Visit that friend you wanted to see before taking off (Any on your list of NPCs you want to see? let me know and I can make it so)

Thrugnipp:

Spoiler:
your fishing buddy Bedlar Thork had asked you if you wanted to take a vacation fishing with him, but he hadn't said where. You might want to visit him at his booth in the Market Ward.

Karrin and Zigel:

Spoiler:
If you want that disguise kit you can always accompany Zigel to Veria's Delights just outside the Civic Festhall.

Swift:

Spoiler:
Swift had been worried about her little friend Emelia. She hasn'r seen her for some time. She dwells down Copperman Way towards the Hive.

Greep:

Spoiler:
Quint wanted to see you today for a bit if you want to see him.

hummm Veria's Delights sounds like a fine ideal consider that my plan for the day.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Kruelaid, quick question. How do you make those maps of yours (love the ship one). I'd like to get set up for that in this game if possible.

I use Adobe Illustrator.

You can do it with photoshop, too, but it'll take time. Basically I'm capitalizing on three years of learning how to use the program and I can whip that stuff off in 15-30 minutes.

I suggest just using the blank battlemap (download full resolution on the right menu) and drawing your terrain and adding counters over it.

The fancy stuff will take some learning.

If you download the blank map, you should be able to make some nice maps by adding layers with Gimp, which works like Photoshop but costs nothing.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I've done exactly that, used the battlemap with layers in GIMP. My players say thanks. :D

Awesome, I'm glad someone has made use of it. When I get home I'll make a transparent copy of the grid and letters so you guys can just plop it on top of something you've drawn and see the terrain through the coordinates...

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna have to check that out when I have a moment. :)

Here is a transparent grid with coordinates (A-Z/1-36):

Coordinate grid overlay in .psd format

You can open it with GIMP, Photoshop, or Illustrator and paste it over a picture/map and then scale to the right size. It's just lines and numbers without any background layer.

husband half Italian Expert 15 (carpenter 5/ gamer 5/ reader 5)

Patrick and all- Greep is not making any sort of comment about ya'lls treatment of him- he's just new to dealing with nobles and aristocrats who judge him by appearence. And it semed like something he would talk to Quint about rather than Ffethpaar or Swift- though Zigel is a good first choice for local advice.

Eir makes him feel funny inside- all that leather and the whip

and Karrin is unexperienced Sigil-wise and has that tongue thing going on.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

This is very nice indeedy.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Thanks Kruelaid, I appreciate the tips (and the blank grid!). This will help with the game format indeed. Now I just have to get you all gathered back together before my fingers fall offf! (and my wife kills me)

Zigel and Karrin:

you folks going to Veria's?
