Adventure Paths stopping early?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

When dungeon went out I remember hearing something that the Pathfinder APs will continue to go from first to twenty.

RofRL - The final adventure is for characters 14 - 15 level.

I'm not seeing anything (at a quick glance) for CotCT or SD, but the PF#8 is set to run the entire course of the AP. So, I'm going to guess it's not going to level 20 either.

Just something I was thinking about recently.

The Paizo folks have posted about this somewhere (it's been 6+ months at least)--the first few adventure paths will generally run through 15th level. They may address high-level/epic adventures later, but want to get the APs working well before tackling the issues caused by that level of play. I imagine this is at least a secondary goal of the Pathfinder RPG as well, and you'll find various discussions about high-level/epic play in the Pathfinder RPG playtest dicussions.

Thanks. I was sure it was answered at some point... but I really couldn't go looking at the moment. Just was thinking about it so I asked.

it's in the #pathfinder thread, but there's a loot of reading in there - really good reading though

I'd love to see a Pathfinder that goes from levels 15-25.

Unless they manage to fix high level 3.5 rules with Pathfinder RPG, I am glad they are sticking to paths that don't go past 15th. The high levels are just not fun to DM for in 3.5 in my opinion.

I DM'd 21st-25th level gestalt 3.5 characters and had a blast, so, yeah, I'm coming from a different place. :)

One other angle, though, is that there just aren't that many 15-25 level adventures out there. There are tons of 1-15.

Wow. My gestalt campaign is set to go to 23rd level, but we're already at 18th level and I'm frazzled. Unless the PFRPG fixes those high levels, I'll never take my campaigns over 15th again. I commend you for your GMing abilities, sir! :)

I did a lot with environments.

In one encounter - on Carceri - I had the PCs fight arena duels with varying monsters.

In one "corner" of the arena was a lava pit, that also was (unbeknownst to the players) in an anti-magic area. I also stuck a huge fire elemental inside - just for fun!

The monk/wizard gestalt used shapechange to transform into an iron golem. When he was very low on hit points, he made a flying leap into the lava pit - thinking the fire damage would heal him as an iron golem. The look on his face as he became a human again (from the anti-magic) was priceless as his poor monk was not only burned by the lava, but subject to the attack of the fire elemental.

:)

You just can't have encounters like this below level 15.

The campaign I was running right before I started RoTRL was Drow War by mongoose, which is basically a 1-30 campaign done over 3 different books.

We actually ended up calling a halt to it at about level 22 because epic was enough to frazzle us(we were already feeling that at higher up non-epic levels too though) but all around we decided it had a great story to it even if we didn't like the high level play so much.

If you are interested in epic APs, that might be something to look into.

I have The Drow War, but 1-30 might be a bit much for one play group. The gestalt game I spoke of above went from 10-26 in about 2 years - although we had two DMs.
