ENWorld's missing announcement?

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

I don't know if someone mentioned this in another thread, but earlier today, ENWorld had something on their homepage regarding Paizo's site being closed, the goblin splash page and their own speculation that it was all pending a 3.5/4e announcement. Now, there is nothing there. Nada. Zippo. They even pulled their previous posting.

Make of this what you will, but the blank space directly between these two paragraphs is where you're all supposed to read between the lines. Let the speculation begin.

Well, considering ENWorld is a 4E news site, that would be why they no longer have anything there about today's Paizo news.

Just a guess.

They're not strictly a 4e news site, but have OGL news as well. They've also announced when other companies have decided not to go 4.0.

I too am disappointed they have nothing about Paizo's decision, but sometimes they don't post stuff right away (although, if they have time to take out the "Goblin" thing, you'd think they'd have time to post a link to the press release...)

From ENWorld's own FAQ:

At its core, EN World is a news and reviews website for Dungeons & Dragons and other d20 games.

Not for nothing, but they were started back when 3edition was imminent.

There's plenty of discussion in the forums.

The news item appears to have been added by a normal user due to a glitch in the software - it was not written by site staff the way that those news announcements are. It was removed when the user realised that he shouldn't have had the ability to do that!

Since when I saw it it was posted under the heading 'Latest 4E updates' it was clearly out of place: this is a 3.5E update, and not 4E news. I expect that the site knows that a lot of people are looking to it for regular and uncluttered 4E news, and this announcement was not part of that. I'm sure that there will be ongoing discussion on the Pathfinder RPG on the ENWorld forums, as there is ongoing discussion on OSRIC, older versions of D&D etc, but that discussion doesn't belong in the 4E news parts of the site - while Paizo not directly producing product for 4E is news, it doesn't tell us anything about what 4E will be like, nor about what will be available for 4E so belongs elsewhere.

Hopefully between this site and ENWorld there is plenty of room for constructive discussion of both games - and partitioning discussion (both on ENWorld and here) is sensible to avoid cluttered forums where it isn't clear what game is being discussed or why.

Edit: Also, note that the second news item down on www.enworld.org is the Paizo press release and a link to this website.

Don't get me wrong folks, I still love ENWorld. It rocks! I've been there nearly since the beginning of the site when it was still run by Eric Noah. I actually have a request thread in the Plots, Places and Rogues section of the boards here. Feel free to make a request.

ENWorld rocks, and I will continue to post there as long as they are supportive of the 3.x ruleset.
