Braxton Keel |
If Chandler is going to use Intimidate, Braxton senses that tough words are being used, and stands threateningly behind Chandler, offerin ghis aid to the roll.
Intimidate aid another: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Turk* |
Turk is taken aback by the direct approach of his comrad, but is unsure at this point if he could ever sweet talk his way into the house. But he does know how to intimidate, even if he is unsure this is the best way to go in this situation. As he turns to regard the old woman a halo of holy light flares around his head. +2 to intimidate, only if the person is evil
I am afraid my friend here has it right ma'am. We have your package here.He lifts it, showing its size and apparent weight. And I'd be pleased to bring it in and place it where you like, if only you will respond to my friend's questions. Ohterwise I shall be forced to take it back with me.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26+2 to intimidate if Auntie is evil.
I am concerned that Intimidate was the wrong thing to do here, but... too late now.
Jules Stonecutter |
Knowing she can cause more harm then good, Jules remains quietly in the back.
I am not taking the chance of rolling another one
Turk* |
Turk steps up onto the porch and holds the box for inspection. I did not mean to get off on the wrong foot good lady. It is simply that there is only so much aid that can be given, and the church wants to be sure that its charity is deserved. Surely you can see the need…
Torsk |
Torsk, who should be offended at her remarks, is used to that treatment from close minded people. He joined to become a Pathfinder in hopes to changed ones preconceived notions, based solely upon appearance.
He says nothing, and waits outside as the bitter lady had demanded, but she never said he had to stay in the spot he was in.
Jules Stonecutter |
Jules waits outside with Torsk. "Hay Torsk I will stay out here and keep you company." Jules says
As soon as the others enter Jules smiles at Torsk.
"Ok lets see if we can find another way in. I think our best chance is to talk to the kids without her around. What do you think?"
Jules begins to look around the orphanage.
She is checking to see if there is a way to climb in the building, if it has more than one story, otherwise she will look for a place to enter where Auntie is not.
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
GM Tektite |
Auntie Baltwin grumble and turns to let Turk and Chandler inside. Nearly swarming with cats and children, this fine upper-class home appears to be clean and in good condition considering the number and ages of its inhabitants. Strewn toys and more cats lie about on the floors. A few children take care of chores, while coughs and sneezes softly erupt from the children’s dormitories upstairs. Baltwin turns to the duo. "See! Nothing to see here, thank you for the package. Good day to you." She says motioning toward the door.
Chandler Harrington |
"Well, I'm no doctor, but I'd still like to see this sick kid. No offense, lady, but the more you rush us, the more suspicious I get," Chandler says, unperturbed. "How about you, Turk? You know anything about medicine?" he asks his companion.
Turk* |
I have studied the healing arts. Turk says as he sets the large package down on the floor by the door. But it was a long trek across town and I am now tired. The box was quite heavy. Perhaps you have some refreshments before we move on to look at the children? And with this Turk sits down.
GM Tektite |
Baltwin looks at Chandler in astonishment. "There are a few young'uns upstairs that have got the cold. See so yourself. This package isn't to just help right now, it's a charity the Temple provides to aid me in raising these poor kids. You never know when one might catch ill."
She turns to Turk. "I have some tea I can offer, not much else. Remember this is a quick visit. I kindly ask you to get your dirty clothes off the furniture."
Heal and Perception checks please.
Turk* |
Turk looks at his clothing and armor, which have seen some combat this day and nods, standing up. As you wish. he says looking around.
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Chandler Harrington |
"Thank you for being more cooperative," Chandler says, his expression softening a bit. "I really do want to believe you're just annoyed by the unexpected intrusion, but I don't believe in taking chances with the welfare of children."
Not that he needs it, but
Heal to Aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8 Good thing he's plenty good at that anyway...
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Jules Stonecutter |
I am not sure if you saw my post above but I was looking around as well. Please let me know if you need a stealth check
GM Tektite |
As the party looks around, those outside find a backdoor and a couple window on the second story, but all look to be locked.
Inside, Turk notices that, indeed, a few of the children appear to be sick, but nothing that seems too serious. While Chandler notices a stash of curatives from three different charities.
As the two snoop around, Baltwin becomes increasingly agitated. "There! You seen with your own eyes now! Leave the package and off with you!"
Chandler Harrington |
"Okay, so some of the children really are sick, but do you honestly need to collect so much in the way of charity?" Chandler asks with a grin, pointing out the cache of medicines and raising and inquisitive eyebrow.
Jules Stonecutter |
Jules carefully examines the area below the second story window looking for the best place to climb up.
Can I use the perception check I made or should I make a new one. I am looking for the easiest way to get into the second floor. Yea I will need a disable device for the window. I will take 10 to climb giving me a 12.
After carefully looking around she finds a good place to begin climbing.
disable device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
'Hi kids I am here to help. Can you tell me what is really going on around here. If you tell me I may be able to get you out of here!'
Jules Stonecutter |
"I can try to unlock the back door, or does someone else have another idea?" Jules ask
Jules Stonecutter |
Jules carefully takes out her tools and begins to work.
disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
and looks past the door to see if anyone is there
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Hoping to go unnoticed
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Turk* |
Turning to Chandler, Turk begins to berate the young bard. Now see what you've done? No Tea. You had to snoop around and upset this fine lady. And the result? No tea for me. What have i done to deserve to get punished so! And all on your account. Why, I think you owe Mrs. Baltwin an apology. He puts his hands on his hips and looks sternly at Chandler. But he has not taken one step towards the door.
Jules Stonecutter |
Jules begins to look around for anything interesting.
Jules looks around for stairs to the basement, (actually any stairs)kids, anything to snoop in.
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Chandler Harrington |
Oh God! Please let her get to the kitchen to find tea already brewing.
Chandler looks at Turk and then Ms. Baltwin with the greatest look of mock chastisement he can muster.
"I sowwy, Auntie Baltwin."
Then looking back at Turk more seriously, he adds, "Really, though, I think it's pretty safe to report that she's scamming the charities. She's given me no reason to believe she isn't. We can go whenever."
Turk* |
Could not leave while Braxton is making tea. This is about to get silly! :)
Ok. I'll be on the porch. Turk agrees turning to leave. Funny that you say you are out of tea. I am almost sure I smell tea brewing right now.
GM Tektite |
Baltwin watches as the two head out to the porch before turning to head into the kitchen. Seeing Braxton, the old woman nearly collapses in fright. "Who are you and what are you doing in my kitchen! Guards! Guards! Intruder in my home! Older kids, get the wee children outside!"
The house suddenly erupt with screams and thumps as the children begin racing outside.
The woman stands, staring at Braxton, fury seething in her eyes.
Jules Stonecutter |
Jules moves to the front of the house where all of the children are racing out of the house.
"Quick children lets all gather over here. I will watch over you until Auntie comes out."
Braxton Keel |
Braxton just stands there, holding a pot of tea, and wearing an apron.
After a bit of the commotion dies down, Braxton calmly places the tea pot down, takes off the apron and hands it to the angry woman. "Interesting. You find a strange man in your kitchen, wearing an apron, and your first thoughts are to protect the children. Maybe you aren't corrupt after all. Maybe you just need to be nicer. When I was their age, I would have killed to be able to live in a home like this, taken care of by a woman who actually loved me like her own. Maybe the only reason the church wanted us to check up on you is because you're a grouchy b$@&%."
With that, he calmly heads past her and out the front door.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Braxton Keel |
It seems like the group consensus is that she has too many medicines, too many cats, is generally mean, and sends the children out for mysterious work. Sounds troubling to me, though she does also seem to care about the kids. I think they should move on, and come check out the neighbourhood to find out what the kids are doing if they have more time after their other tasks.
Turk* |
Turk from the porch calls out helpfully I am still here, waiting for my tea…
I do not know what to think. Its not wrong to protect your charges. And yes, Turk has left the package.
Braxton Keel |
Seeing the older kids gathered outside, Braxton heads over to a small group. "If you want to protect Auntie, tell the truth. When she sends you to go work in the city, what do you do?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
GM Tektite |
Intimidating children????
Already shaken from being told to rush outside and now being questioned threateningly by the man they just witnessed exit their home, the children burst into a sobbing, wailing mass of incoherence.
Auntie Baltwin comes out onto the porch, followed by a black cat. She stares daggers at Braxton, then bends over to stroke her cat.
You have once full round action to do something, then we're going into initiative.
