You feared your wife was going to call you to bed as you posted your comments on it?

No, I am one of those "of the people, by the people, and for the people" types.

And one of those "USA RULES!" types.
I do understand how such freedom and pro-western nationalism is antithetical to someone like you though.

Its like alcohol...your right to sell alcohol and thus profit from the destruction of others is invalidated by every one elses right to freedom from the destruction you profit from.

PS at some point you diverted from "all the people" to "the few guys in charge" and thus misrepresent freedom and the right of every one to an equal share of freedom. Like Mosus you have led them into the desert and the instant they ask questions as to your leadership, you bring up the guys with swords to keep them in line and put down alternate points of view.

yellowdingo, your use of the word "you" is inconsistent and may lead others to believe you are talking about them personally. Please be more careful with your language. Thanks!

With freedom comes personal responsibility.

Or, like Castro.

Okay, okay, okay. I said I'd leave.

But I have one more thing to say and that is that I hope the Cuban people get to see some positive change. Between Castro's iron reign and America's sanctions they've had a tough half century and deserve a chance to see better living standards, new cars, and awesome computers.

And may there one day be some Cuban D&D players.

Liberty's Edge

Amen to that.

You took a kick at me and now I read this. I don't understand where your posts are coming from on this thread magdalena? Help me understand.

Ah, nothing personal or targeted at you. Just that some, including I, would point out that Cubans already have several point of improved lifestyle covered surprisingly well, better than many of their neighbors...

This may mark me as European bleeding-heart pinko but if I had to choose between not dying on treatable medical condition and new television, I'd choose the former.

Whoa. I totally got you wrong. Agree 100%.

The problem is the majority of cubans view castro as a hero and usually in communist countries the leader appoints the next one (usually the head of the military).

But Gary, I am talking about them as a collective of individuals. "If you are reading this, this means you."

Its hard to hit everyone over the head for their apalling choice to diverge from fundamental human rights for everyone.

I think what we all really need to remember when dealing with such a divisive political issue is that Fidel Castro is an anagram for docile farts... and if that doesn't bring us back together again, I don't know what will.

I feel a little strange adding to this post, but in light of the conversation...

I'm a Cuban American. Both my parents are exiled Cubans; very likely they will never return (nor do they have inclination to) to their homeland - especially so long as there is a Communist regime. They are of the same generation as Fidel Castro - my mother went to the same university as he did (she was an undergrad; he was a grad student at the time). That being said, there are few insight from talking to most older generation Cubans concerning this development:

*Although there's no proof, Fidel is probably dead or near comatose. At some appropriate time, his death will probably be announced. This isn't without precedent among Communist nations - historians indicate that Stalin was likely dead well before his passing was announced; there was brief period during Gorbachev's reform period when he briefly "disappeared" only to get on TV immediately to announce he was alive and still in charge. The gist of an old-style Communist regime is a smooth passing of power; the infallibility of the state and all that.

*Although there's certainly hope for democratic elections, what is more likely is that so long as his brother keeps overall control of Cuba, there will continue to be a Communist regime. More likely, there will be an attempt to emulate Chinese-style Communism - going from hard-line to a more of hybrid: Politically Communist; Socially Capitalist. If the US continues its embargo, its likely partners in this endeavor would be Mexico and Canada - although it wouldn't surprise me if US corporations expanded in via International routes (Cargil, I think is one that comes to mind).

*I know that many people say that Cuba's embargo is an ill, American policy; that only the Cuban people suffer. As time has gone on - especially with the fall of the Soviet Union - maybe it has become a poor plan. What tends to be forgotten in all this is that Cuba's government hasn't exactly been receptive to it either - at least not without direct control. In this, they are much like North Korea - they don't want to normalize relations unless it will be advantageous to the regime.

So while I'm glad that Fidel has "resigned", it's only a first step for Cuba's future. I hope that it gets better; but for now I am a little skeptical. My apologies if this has turned into a rant; thanks for the chance to speak up (which is a great part of living here, I might add).

By the way, I am a D&D player (been so for something like 25 years now), and I'm glad that someone mentioned Cuban D&D players [assuming they meant someone like me ;-)].

PS Your country was my country long before it was ever yours. My family fought the French occupation of Quebec. My family live on a farm there for several generations right up to the point when that terrorist Washington and his band of lawless, disrespectful bandits with the support of those stinking cultists in the continental congress decided they wanted to form the USA. They even fought in the Revolution. We moved to Red River which was eventually central in the little war when the USA attacked Canada (the place where that whole little rockets red glare gangster rap was inspired). So we moved to Canada and spent two hundred years building a future Commonwealth.

Further brances of my family moved from the USA because people with your point of view turned it into a Midden and attacked anyone who thought it could be different. If you dont know what that is, buy a dictionary.

As far as I am concerned the USA is my property being held hostage by terrorists and there can be no negotiation with terrorists.

I think the most important point, which has yet to be addressed in this thread, is whether or not the international community will finally recognize Castro's good deeds in killing robot Walt Disney. I was watching a documentary* last night which provided evidence that Walt Disney's cryogenically frozen head was attached to a robotic spider body and kept alive by feasting on the flesh of children. Walt became obsessed with Elian Gonzales and went to Cuba to eat him. Fidel Castro shot Walt in the head, thus ending his reign of terror forever!

*Robot Chicken is a documentary, right?

Edit: And is it anti-American to proclaim that Kazakhstan is better than the U.S.? Because their potassium is the envy of the world, and if we can't admit that they are the better country due to this fact, then I think as a culture we need to reconsider our values, our role in the world, and whether we can continue to be a beacon of freedom with such poor quality potassium.

Sebastian wrote:

No, no. It's a "dramatization". The basic facts are true, they are slightly embellished for more dramatic impact.

I'm sorry to say Borat lied about the potassium, but not about exporting the girl prostitues, or the apples. The apples taste great and... well, the girls not so much...

To tell the truth, I find yellowdingo's posts baffling. I can't figure out what he's trying to say, beyond referring to the history of the United States of America in a uniquely incoherent fashion. I think what he's trying to say is insulting, but I'm not really sure. Most of the time, when he sticks to D&D-related topics he makes a bit more sense. (But not much.)

I'm not sure that's enough for a permanent ban. And he recently took a couple months away from our boards on his own, and has returned with more incomprehensible nonsense. So giving him a time out probably won't work.

I really don't know what to do about this.

Ah hell no, we're going with Paizo local time. And check out the post below yours. We will gets us a lock! The honor and dignity of America cannot be besmirched on the internet!!! Why are all those brave men and women fighting in Iraq? So that Canadians can come on these boards and talk trash in a weird rambling way about America? Hell no! Today, Americans everywhere will be vindicated; other nations will stand up and take note that nobody can talk smack about the U.S.A. without response! This thread will be placed in the National Archive so that people everywhere can appreciate the courage and patriotism it takes to stand up to nutty rambling posters whose very words threaten our way of life.

WWJD? Turn the other cheek? Be mature and ignore something that is so without merit or intelligence that the moderators even note it as such? F$@@ no. I'll tell you what he'd do. He'd post the most vitriolic response he could. Why? BECAUSE HE WAS AN AMERICAN!!! And Americans do not tolerate any slight, no matter how trivial or idiotic. When there is a principle so great as is at stake here, there can be no compromise, no understanding, no quarter. And that's what we will see. We are in the presence of a great American hero, and I want everyone to take note.

They cannot take our freedom!!!!

And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free...
