I'll admit it. I'm not afraid to say it:
I COULD NOT HAVE WON THIS COMPETITION.
I think Wolfie or Erik could have, but I couldn't have. In fact, knowing them I can comfortably say they certainly would have. But of course they should win. Their experience and talent, coupled with an insiders knowledge of what professionals like us are looking for, would make them hard to beat. But I wouldnt have beat the person who I recommended as the winner. I am utterly convinced of that.
The person I recommended to win has had an unbelievable run. Amazing talent. Consistently professional. Under huge time pressure on each occasion. Facing scary competition.
I take my hat off to all the contestants and to the final 4 in particular. And specifically to the person I recommended as the winner.
It is abundantly clear from this competiton that there are people who are not currently in the RPG industry who clearly could be.
I cannot wait to see how the voting goes.

That's OK; Simon Cowell has admitted he can't sing a note.
(Or were you seeing yourself as Paula or Randy?)
Reminds me of a story I read once about Walt Disney.
He brought in a composer to score some music for one of his movies, gave the guy a few rather daunting instructions and let him go to it. After much feverish effort and and weeping and gnashing of teeth, the guy brings back the music to Walt and plays it. Walt listens and at the end says, "That'll work." The guy was kind of floored. All that work and time... and "that'll work"? But, a couple of more experienced guys from Disney took him aside and told him not to worry. Walt wasn't one for flattery, they told him, but he had an uncanny sense for exactly what was needed. When Walt said, 'That'll work,' that meant it was just right.

Clark, I have to say that I agree with you. I know I could not have won it either. However, my hat is off to you, Erik, and Wolfgang for doing such a good job of judging the entries. In that area, I know that I could never have done as good a job as you three have done. Thanks for giving this contest your all, you three! ~claps~ Oh, and a congradulation to all the people who submitted an entry and to the winners. However, I have to say that us Paizoians are the real winners with this contest.

Boomer and Nelson eliminated themselves from my consideration rather nicely by using a blanket "no teleport" rule in a high level adventure. Sure, it may be easier to write when cutting a few annoying character options away, but i doubt most players take kindly to the DM just declaring "your skills don't work, because i say so!"
As for Schneider vs Creary... i'll have to re-check both, but i strongly favor the animated monastery over the "10 pages per level" approach

I have the same attitude about "no divination". If you can't handle it in the adventure, crumple it up and write a new one.

I actually agree on both counts. Make it harder or have consequences, sure, but don't just rule it out. Account for it in your design, rather than just stonewall it.
I would invite you guys to give my entry a second look on that score. I suppose I can say more after the voting closes.
