While I second your opinion, I would expect a map that size could be quite large for many encounters. A typical printing area allows 8"x10" roughly so battle maps could only be made to fit inside a 40x50 foot area. Many fights could be done in that size, but a lot would not.
What I have done so far is to tell whatever aplication I'm using for printing to splash the file across multiple pages. Then I get busy with scissors and tape. It's a pain in the a$$ but my players have enjoyed the results. You could also take the file to a printer that has a large format color printer. I've seen stuff six feet wide come off of those, but it's pricey.

We'll see. The map folios and gazeteer pdfs should have good digital stuff. Hopefully poster maps will be in sections and not just 1 scaled to fit a page image.

I'm all for higher res digital maps, too. I love printing stuff out and putting them down on the table. I build a lot of cardstock scenary, so having to print 10-20 sheets (or more!) for a single encounter doesn't phase me in the slightest. But printing blurry maps when you upscale the graphics to that level does. :)
