I was one of the last ones to get the PDF of PF#5 last time, so now I'm gloating. I must have a rune keyboard bringing out the worst in me.
Just a brief skim.. looks awesome.
I like the title our Runelord aquires.
Awesome art. SirUzra will be pleased, there's a couple nice Seoni shots. Freaky monsters!
Speaking of Chapter One, I only just now reviewed Burnt Offerings (though for some reason it's dated some time ago)

I downloaded it about an hour ago and have been skimming it. First impression - looks nice but I'd never run this. It's just a typical high-level slugfest - one battle after another, lots of huge stat blocks, massive amounts of magic items everywhere, and a pretty typical uber-battle against a wizard at the end. Some of these issues just have to do with my dislike of high-level play but overall, this module seemed average.
Overall, Pathfinder #1-3 would make for an awesome mini-campaign, but I wouldn't run any of the others after that.

You guys waiting for 5 still make sure you don't have the Map Folio in your order, if you do, make sure it's cancelled... other then that, can't tell you anything else.
I got the PDF today.. gobblegobblegobblegobblegobblegobble

I'm waiting for 5 and 6 actually because they along with U2: Hangman's Noose and The Secret of Sinharat are waiting for end of month shipment. 4 items in one shipment. Better than last month when the timing sent J2 by itself.

My First Impressions:
I havent read through it thoughouly yet, and often, high-level monsters kind of seem all as one to me, but it's looking fairly good. obviously not as good as Burnt, Skinsaw, or HMM, but better than FotSG, which itself was a fine adventure. Yes, it does seem to have a plethora of hackfests that typify high-level adventures, but at least the monsters themselves are interesting and engaging opponents, and certainly can be used as fleshed-out NPCs in their own right. To me, the HTFBRs were the redeeming part of FotSG. And, I see, in addition to more expansion of the "Lamia pack" (along with a rather cute Lamia illustration on page 58. normally, I abhor the way that females portrayed in the gaming industry are always scantily-clad and big-chested, but I have a particular weakness for black hair) we have even more of Paizo's absolutely wonderfull Horrible Things From Beyond Reality, which I also have a weakness for, but obviously in a different way. There's also some fully-imagined RP encounters here, as well as (Joy!) an actual Friggin Haunted Cabin. With Wendigos! And Haunts! and Dead Dwarves! and Haunts!
aside from the adventure, There's less here apart from what looks like yet another awesom Journal, (and this one seems to feature Hellknights. Yay!) and a lengthy article on High Altitudes, a boon to anyone who wants to run a mountainclimbing adventure. but, it's a figgin climactic end-of-campaign adventure, of course it's going to be bigger than the others, and edge out the other content

What's the story with that, SirUrza? How do I cancel an item from the Chronicles subscription? Is that what's holding up my two issues of Pathfinder?

How very strange. I downloaded the issue, and the right side of every illustration in the first half of the book is cut off. The cover: only the left side. Everything's like that. Full text, but the graphics...? (Even James' signature is only half there.)
I reinitialized and downloaded again. Same thing.
How very strange.

skimmed through it, have to say beside the adventure & karzoug that I find this one the most lacking. I don't care all that much for the beastiary in every pathfinder and it seems to me that that's the thing allways getting more page count.
Oh and wasn't this issue supposed to get a new special giant breed ecology write up?
On the up side the adventure seems to bring everything to a nice conclusion and I'm picking these up for the adventures more than anything so yay in that department!

It's currently listed as "Next product:
Pathfinder Chronicles: Rise of the Runelords Map Folio will be the next product to ship". I thought the hold-up was because of PF#6? Well, let's wait some more before we press the Panic button :).
Kruelaid |

actually, What do we do if we want to opt out of a particular product in the pathfinder chronicles subscription? I really dont need the map folio, and I'd like to save the $15.
You will find debate and answers pertinent to the 'skip' option here.
If the idea of reading 4 pages of heated discussion bores you, the final answer is that Paizo will not be allowing people to skip anything in the Chronicles line.

Love the art in the bestiary. GO KEV!
Oh, and Denizens of Leng...Worth the price of this issue for me.
Just skimmed, so don't know the big bits yet, but Karzoug looks like a worthy end of campaign opponent, maybe still needing a little something else (prob just me, as I like to personalize most npcs mechanically a little.)
I was hoping for more visuals of Xin Shalast's crystal towers...I also hope it does indeed live up to the "ancient lost city" feel alluded to in the forward.
One minor complaint - like many other volumes, this one uses a lot of the same critters throughout. Yes, its the easiest part of an adv to change (and I do it a lot anyways,)but I'm hoping to see more variety in future paths...
Ok, maybe two - I could've done without the mountaineering article (should have just been a sidebar or so.)
Again, the art is perhaps the best of all the Rise volumes, imo (only lacking pic is the yeti/snowman.)

If you haven't received PF5 yet and your cart has the Map Folio in it then your order is being held up by a bug with the Map Folio. All you have to do is post in the STORE forum and they'll fix it for you.. unless you want to wait until march.

I received an e mail saying that PF 5 and 6 + J2 are on their way to me. And I just downloaded the pdfs.
Am I to disbelieve the mail notification and head to the store thread? Or is the map folio bug fixed?
Cheers,
Guenther

I have the paper version for #5 here (came along with three Planet Stories books and the Runelord Item Cards) and #6 is already shipped (and I have the .pdf)
Holy Desna!
Rune Giants...Run! Run for you lives!
Yeah. putting the giant back into giant.
We had that discussion today, when I told my players that I'd have to use the big black dragon (or other big black dragons) soon to represent Rune Giants, which are gargantuan, they commented that they can accept that as giants. Those merely large giants ("as big as my horse!") just don't cut it against that.
KARZOUG THE CLAIMER
Thats what I want to be called from now on.
I thought something like that, too. That's a title you can brag about on reunions.
