How Will You Use Round 2 Countries?

Another poster mentioned something about how if he couldn't use the it (i was assuming a country, but he could have been referring to an item in his game he wouldn't vote for it (I am paraphrasing something I read a few hours ago, so please excuse me if the wording is off or more/less daunting).

Well, while I can't fault him for that, I wonder how fair that is. After all I can never use anything when it is still in its original flavor, I have to modify it, tweak it, and change it so it fits my game.

My campaign world is big enough that I can probably plop any given country/country idea right down in it and start using it. However, I would have to add politics, international relations, and other such features.

Anyhow, how will you use a country that you like?

Scarab Sages

Currently, my group is doing a "shared world" setting; each player and DM is free to submit whatever material they want, and it is added to the world. Countries, items, villains, monsters, etc., here I would use if I liked them and tweak them where necessary to fit this shared world.

Interesting question. I guess it all depends on the entry in question and the campaign I want to run (I'm a player at the moment). As far as the voting goes, I am going to vote based primarily on "would I like to use it? Would my players enjoy it?" and not much else.

Regarding how I am going to use it, I see two possibilities:

1) I fit it into an existing game world somehow
2) I reserve it for another game world for a future game

Whether it is possible to fit the entry into my existing game world I guess depends a lot on how exotique or far from the rest of the setting the entry is. If we are talking about Amazon descendants of space-farers who are busy building a new space craft, then I am probably going to keep them pretty darn isolated from the rest of the world and only have my PC's visit them by accident :-)

Many times, you discover that your PC's having better ideas then you do and you end up incorporating them into the game.

In regards to judging, some of it will come down to subjectivity. Everyone has a different interest and that is going to affect overall judging. For me, if I read a description and it triggers images in my head, then we're heading in the right direction. Many of my ideas come from a singular image in my head and then spawns from there.

There are so many what ifs and hows that will affect how things are judged. To some extent you almost have to judge on each countries individual merit. At this point I plan on reading each one through make comments and then continue to follow the threads afterwards. I don't planning on make my vote until the last day. I want to have enough time to mull them over.

Sage Advice. I like it!

:) Go me!

I'm am really excited to see what level of creativity is in this round. It will be interesting to see, but I hope that everyone else will take the time to read through each one first prior to voting. I just don't want to see votes go to person X because "He's my Bud!" Considering the final winner gets published.....

Like Boomer said in another thread, I want to vote for the best country. I have a weird feeling I won't be voting for my own. I like mine, but I am sure there are others there that will inspire me in a different way. So, I look forward to the creative pieces I am about to read in less than 3 hours (gak). I also encouraged my gaming friends to do the same (though they would anyway, they are good that way).

It's the week of watching and waiting that will drive me nuts :)

I'd be a wreck to if I had made it to Round 2. So...good and bad. :) At least they'll be next year! If you fail...try try again. Half the time, I'm too dang stubborn to give up.

I will only vote for something if I think I can *someday* use it. However,

I can use stuff because it inspires me, or has elements I can filtch. Most of my campaign ideas come from trashy romance novels with fantasy elements, because none of my players can stand to read those (*unlike every other fantasy book, novel, anime or game book, which they devour like circus penatus).

But i change nearly everything. Often an idea comes to me because I think "Oh that's neat, but what if..."

So having to change it is not a problem for me. I just have to be interested or inspired enough to *want* to put in that effot.

That said, my players got a baot recently, so I like the idea of a bunch of countries they can sail to with little effort on my part.

I don't know how or if I will use any of the countries. as I have mentioned before, I have this homebrew world where I religiously run all my games (except for a fling with Ravenloft I'm having right now)...

I might pilfer elements here and there, but how many, I don't know. Like Dungeon Grrl I am in the habit of adapting near everything I use from various sources.

My own entry was intended at one point (before this contest, in an embryonic form) to serve as an exercise to depart from my "homeworld" and do something new, so I will probably run a game there sooner or later.

I will probably wait until the last day to cast my vote as well. Reading all the magic items was an exercise in concentration, so I'll use the reading, digesting, commenting process to pass the time.

I tried to include at least one easy pilferable idea in my entry. I think you'll all dig it...I hope.
