No, it isnt, but it just fell into that category better than Crunch or Design. :)

The "Fluff" category is for issues with the writing and grammar is a part of that.

I think you know what I mean and are just pulling my leg.

I think it means, are your comments going to be hidden so that if someone wants to read them they hit the 'spoiler' button that you see in so many posts.

Would you be willing to post your name file?

I'm reall looking forward to reading the articles tomorrow. I wish tehre was a window between making the entries viewable and the start of voting, however.

It'd be nice to just slightly encourage a full review and discussion before voting.

No. The entry is the first post in a thread. The judges' comments are separate posts after that. No spoiler tags—just stop reading after the first post (the submission) if you don't want to read any comments. It's as easy to avoid as reading the next post in this thread is.

And this post is totally not worth reading.

I don't think posting here on the message boards would be very cool, but if you drop me an e-mail (bobby.catdragon@gmail.com), I'll share it with you that way.

Hmm. This thread prompted me to go watch these mythic PSAs. I'm not sure I can support Hennet with a vote. Heheheeh.

In my defense, I've already gone a two full rounds of this contest without submitting any entries containing the phrases "hummer and a burrito", "motor-boating" or "smoking crack and f@#+ing fat b$$&*es".

Mostly because I don't want to be banned for life. These boards are really nice.

Personally, I'm just hoping that the merry Paizo pranksters are going to slap a PSA-related title (like "Friend of Invisible Christopher Walken", perhaps) onto my name, similar to the sudden shift from the simple "thatboomerkid" to the awe-inspiring "Clinton Boomer (RPG Superstar Top 32)".

Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiimp.

By the way, I am all done with judging this round.

Only one entry didnt get the full format review from me and you will see when you read it.

I nominated exactly 16 countries to the top 16. But that is just my opinion.

Now it is up to you guys and girls.

Man, I don't know why this worries me. We've got to get the entries posted. The tension is finally getting to me.

You don't know the half of it. The entries here post at 3pm (EST). I have a final exam at 4 and another at 7. I also have to finish a project to turn in before my exam. As you might guess, I'm a wee bit stressed.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 6 aka exile

Ross, I don't envy the end of semester stress that you're going through. I just keep running down to the lounge between cases to see what's new. Pathetic, really.

Suck. They get posted at 2 PM here in Illinois, and I have to get my Janitorial on by 2:45. Big hippie that I am, I walk to work, meaning that I gotta leave the house by, say . . . 2:05 to 2:10.

This is gonna be a long, cold morning.

Fair enough. Also: Damn the man! Save the Empire!

In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably make it clear that I'm not CHOOSING to walk to work - I just ain't got no ride. I live in a town small enough to walk across, and it was a choice between "car, including insurance and gas" or "making silly movies".

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 6 aka exile

Clinton,

Must say that I admire you for having the courage to make that choice. I'm not sure I'd be able to do the same, though I do like to wear hemp and run around barefoot when I'm fairly confident none of my patients or coworkers will be around.

Chad

I'm down with the small town (which is very different than "Down with the small town!") Somerset, KY is a little place of about 12,000, a fair bit more if you count the entire county, but still pretty small. The only downside is that it is hard to get a gaming group together- I'm trying, but I'm also not above driving to Louisville once a month to game with old friends.

That makes me happy. I think we could ALL stand to run around barefoot every once in a while - and those of us who recognize that are lucky.

As for the pedestian life: it's more fun in June, less fun in February. I'm lucky - my entire life is within walking distance of my house. Wouldn't recommend it to most people.

Agreed on the small towns. :) Grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, then moved to a small town and fell in love with it. While you work with farmers, I work with horticulture and plants (including veggies). WooHoo!

P.S. - What kind of farmers? Working on a local food system where I'm at, now if I could just convince Boomer to eat more veggies and support farmers/producers.... :)

Ooooohh, how small are we talking, here? We're looking at 18,000 souls in Mac-Town, about half farmers and half college folk, which makes for a fun mix.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 aka Spar

Mostly dairy and beef farmers. traditional small town farms in rural Ontario. As for Veggies, woot!!! Have recently fell in love with veggies again (and Vegas, but that's another story).

What do you do with the plants? Biogenetics? Just curious!!!

Boomer, eat your veggies!!!

Wow are we ever off topic!!!

WC

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 6 aka exile

Gads, we're drifting way off topic here, but I don't care so lang as no one else does. My family grew tobacco (and a small garden) the whole time I lived with them. It's a nasty crop. For some reason, when I graduated from high school and left for college, they quit raising it, freeing my younger brothers from the foul work. So unfair. That said, it paid for a lot of Christmas presents back then.

Winchester is about 1500 souls. Mostly farmers, people who support farmers (four farm tractor, implement dealers. I work for New Holland) or plant workers (we have a huge Parmalat plant here, makes milk product)

Hey, I love being off topic!! Way too much fun.

I'm a full time horticulture educator for the University Extension down this way. :) I get to do all sorts of neat things...as long as what I'm doing falls in line with what the Extension is about, I pretty much have utter freedom. Such a sweet deal. Not much for the heavy science, I go for practical application stuff.

That's . . . very small. Even by my standards. How unrighteously cold is it up there, by the by?

Wow, I feel like such an outsider, being from one of the larger suburbs of Chicago. Clinton, I feel for you walking today - hope you didn't get as much snow downstate as we did up here, cleaning the snow off of my car was enough outside time for me today.

We had flurries down this way, nothing to speak of. Now it's downright stinking cold. (Boomer took off to sleep finally, he's a roommate of mine)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 aka Spar

Well, over the past few days we've recieved about 30 cm or 1 foot of snow. As for temperature, it is currently -11C or 12F. So not too bad. Sun is out, but the wind be cold!

Is that with or without wind chill? We're sitting around 28F with a 13F wind chill. Still not used to it yet. Am at the point where I'm ready for sunshine and green growing stuff again.

Shoot, I'm in Seattle, where despite being pretty far north (as far as the U.S. is concerned) it rarely gets below freezing. Anything in the 30s is considered COLD here. You get into the 20s and people are freaking out like it's the Snowpocalypse! The coldest I ever remember it getting in my life here was 13F.

While I was born in Seattle and live there, almost my entire growing up years all the way through high school were in small towns, some not far from cities, others in farming areas. None of them were very compact, though, so walking was never really much of an option. Heck, most of elementary school I had a half-mile walk just to get to the school bus stop!

I know. I felt horrible.

I think the person took a really huge gamble. Had it worked it might have been huge. But for me it really didnt. Now, I'm sure to some people it will work.

You'll see when you read the submission and my comment.

Again, it isnt a comment on the person. In fact, I loved their wondrous item.

It was just a real dangerous chance that didnt pay off.

That's a good question. When I did my review, I didnt look at the wondrous item. So I tried to review the country with a blank slate. Now I know for a fact that Erik looked them up before he reviewed. I wasnt able to achieve total "blank slate" because there are a few (migrus, crown of the breaching legion, etc) that I recognized the name of the author when I read the country. After my review, I compared the item to the country and often made some notes. I only had a few surprises.

Clark Peterson wrote:

First off, I am doing a submission checklist for each entry to make sure we review all submissions for minimum requirements.

Then, I intend to judge a submission in five categories:

Fluff (writing, grammar, style, evocative prose, etc.)
Crunch (basics, rules issues, depth of the setting, details, etc.)
Design (choices made, format, naming, originality, balance--ie, is the submission heavy in one part but lacking in another?)
Play (setting for adventure? campaign? is there conflict? are there play limitations?)
Tilt (my personal take, is it evocative? do I want to play there? does it capture my imagination?) I concede this last part is highly subjective.

I intend to give grades for each section. Then an overall grade.

Then I intend to give either a recommendation for top 16 or not.

Now I'm off to read some submissions...

I've taken a few minutes to look at the way you, Eric, and Wolfgang have comments and analyzed the entries. I highly appreciate the amount of time and indepth thought given. Now....just need to finish up work stuff and to reading it then will be.

I really wanted to have a consistent approach for each submission, since we were down to 32. But I think my format makes my comments less overall insightful than Erik and WB, whose free-form comments allow for wider-ranging comments.

You can always add to it. :) The more insight from you guys the better. Your perspective comes from the business end, what will work for publication. The more comments the merrier. As before when we were all looking for feedback, I think the same applies this time around.
