And then there was...me :( The sole remaining alternate

RPG Superstar™ 2008 General Discussion

So is there any chance of me seeing what the judges thought of my item?

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

I'm going to be busy reading countries :)

But I really liked your item alot. It was on my list of top 32, but we didnt have consensus on it.

Thank you. I understand that you might be a little busy the next couple of days. :)

What happens to the remaining alternate after this point? If a top 16 misses the deadline for round 3, for instance, would he get the spot?

I asked this in another thread and the consensus seemed to be there was no way for an alternate to get in the contest after the 2nd round (that was according to Vic) because that would mean they would skip the 2nd round.

And effectively, there are 16 alternates after the top 16 are picked. They'll easily be ranked based on the voting for round 2.

That hadn't occured to me. Good point.

Note that one of the 32 submitted countries may be disqualified for not following the rules or exceeding the word count.

Nope—we're no longer doing alternates after this round. If somebody fails to submit a qualified entry for (as an example) the round of 16, we'll just have 15 people to choose the top 8 from.

SO CLOSE! I am sure this must be the worst feeling, I would believe that you preped a country in hopes and it is to bad you did not get the nod but at least you made the alt list and for that hats off to you.

I love to know what your item was either way.

Here ya go:

Rogue Teeth

These rare and coveted items come as a pair in a variety of precious materials ranging from gold and silver to the much sought after ivory. They must be put in place of missing teeth directly above and below each other so that when the owner bites down, they will touch. This often times means the forced removal of at least one tooth to get the proper alignment. When placed in such a manner and used to gently bite an object, said object is removed to an extra dimensional space. This space will hold up to five cubic feet of material with weight not to exceed fifty pounds. Three times per day, items can be placed in or retrieved as a standard action, by exerting pressure on the teeth and concentrating on the desired item. Most commonly held items are; lock picks, daggers, potions, vials of acid etc. These teeth are attributed, by those who know of them, with the seemingly miraculous escapes of some of the most infamous rogues of all time.

Moderate Conjuration; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest; Price 90,000 gp.

Wow, very nice item!

Hobert, for what it is worth, you were my 4th golden ticket. Each of us had 4 golden tickets. Our first two each rounded out the top 32. The second two we each had is how we ranked the 6 alternates. Yours was my 4th and final golden ticket. I loved those teeth!

I even cited Matter Eater Lad in its defense.

Matter-Eat Lad cannot hold a candle to Infectuous Lass.

I loved this item.... It felt so right!! I can easily imagine that teeth of the rogue are out there somewhere and rogues of all stripes have them. Especially mage/rogues....

Now, completely off topic....

Spoiler:

Also.... wasn't Matter Eating Lad an actually comic book hero from the Legion of Superheroes (DC)? Its ring a faint bell in my head.

My favorite, for what its worth, was Dream Girl... after all how can you argue with someone whose super power was.... dreaming?

Thanks everyone. I guess the Wolf man must have not liked them too much. Maybe I should have called them "Teeth of the Sneaky Little Kobold that comes out four times a year" or something.:)

Thanks again guys and have fun reading those second round entries. I'm sure there will be some great ones.

Hobert, that's a very nice item. I am truly sorry it didn't make the cut. As I have posted elsewhere, my personal favorites are always magic items for rogues, but I must confess I can think of few items whose sheer sneakiness and originality match yours.

I can already think of adventure hooks for this one...

Cheers,

OH wow I love these. This is another one of those items that make players remember special characters and specific events in a game that later become group and table lore passed on over years. If you would not mind I would love to add this as an item in my campaign.
The first thought that hits me is “back in the day in both first and 2nd edition” I had teeth of spell storing and boy did I have a few characters go to extremes of how they would introduce the item into the mouth so people use to get squeamish when I would describe how they implanted themselves. So heres my item for next year (maybe) LOL

Great work.

Just out of curiosity, how would you adjudicate a rogue, with both wrists manacled to the floor, who activated the teeth on the manacles?

If it was manacles I would say they disappear. If they were chained to anything that caused the total to be over the size/weight then nothing happens.

Actually I would rule that since each of the manacles is is attached to a chain, it would disappear at the first open link, as those two parts are not part of each other. However, I think it would also require 2 uses, one on each manacle.

Great item! Snagged.

Bummer, maybe Paizo will let you pimp your avatar with RPG #33.

Wow. I love that idem. (I'd love it even mroe if it gave a bionsu to appraise check. Yea I lknow bonuses are boring, but people btiing stuff and then saying what its worth just looks great to me).

Yanked for my own games, anyway.

Also, I really, really recommend you submit for the next contest whenever is happens. You clearly have a talent for design and creativity.
