Yeah, no kidding.

And I'd like to amend Clark's comment. As of about the time he made it, ALL ITEMS HAVE NOW BEEN COMMENTED ON!

Maybe just by one of us, but _someone_ has looked at every single item in this contest. We are very rapidly moving toward the endgame now, my friends!

I'm amazed how late in the day, on a weekend night no less, you guys are working on this. I'm also very impressed with the amount of communication to the community you're doing. Thanks!

So, a product that discussed wondrous item design principles and included the top couple hundred items would probably be a viable one. These items are Paizo property at this point, and I imagine a lot of people (especially those not in the top 32) would be happy to have contributed to such a product.

I'd hope you were moving towards the end of the process.

Come on Erik, its almost midnight on a long weekend*, and you are working and posting on the boards for us.

Talk about dedication!

*Ok, its almost midnight for me too, but I just got off work. And I'm Canadian, so its not a long weekend for me. And I'm reading the boards for fun and ordering some Paizo stuff, not working. :-)

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

This is how serious this is getting. Erik just took issue with me challenging the costing of an item.

I just did 3 consecutive posts to that item. First one did the base calculations of it as a single use item with CL X and spell level Y.

But then I added its abilites and how it massively changed the spell that it embodied.

I then compared it to several other items for costing purposes. I then argued the effects and impact on the game of D&D itself: "If we let these things exist at this cost, then Xs would never do Y with their Zs anymore and that would really change some staples of D&D."

All in response to Erik asking, "you say its under costed, can you back that up a bit for me?"

That is what we are doing here folks. That is design analysis.

Thanks for your dedications dear judges. You guys are real fanatics and its nice to know the game we love is in your hands.

The funny thing is with every comments the judges make, I always think they are talking about my item. Aside from my egocentric views of the world :-D, I guess item design/judging breaks down to a few simple questions.

Then check out my list in the "master class" thread.

We should have thought of this months ago. We could fill a good sized book with some of these items. :) That is how many good submissions we have.

But good isnt the goal.

There are easily 200+ submissions that, if we were making a book of wondrous items, we would be more than happy to include. Seriously, when we started we didnt know how many good ones we would get. But as the contest continued it was clear that there was no question that our top 32 were really going to be awesome items.

We wanted something more than competent. We wanted magic. Something that made us go "wow." Or, like one today that we debated at length and I almost rejected, something that made us say "why has no one ever thought of this before, its brilliant." I had massive costing issues with it, but in the end we agreed it was a great item--one that each of us wished we had come up with.

Holding a similar contest at Necromancer Games is always an option but the reviewing sounds like a lot of work.

My understanding was that Paizo probably wouldn't be publishing most of the items submitted, although they would have every legal right to since Paizo owns the IP rights as part of entering the contest. Sounds like there were a lot of good and great items so is there any chance of something like a Paizo PRG Superstar promotion PDF or Word document that would include the final cut or the Top 100 or 200 good submissions after the contest is over? Thanks, just curious.

This would be AWESOME. :D My vote's in for it. :)

I would pay a buck or two for that.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 7

I'd pay a couple bucks for the PDF, or $5 for a paper, bound version (like TC1 or D0, hint hint).

If my name is mentioned somewhere, I'll pay for that product.

(Within reason)

I thought it was mine.

I'd be in for a PDF of the top 100 as well.

Don't you hate and love that feeling you get in your stomach when you think they could be talking about your item though? I debated about the cost of my item; right up to the point I hit submit, and ended up cutting the price significantly because of an item in the SRD that performed a certain way. Biting my nails ... the suspense is awesome. This is great, like a roller coaster ride! Arms in the air, screaming till I'm hoarse! Looking at the guy next to me as his face goes three shades of green, wondering if he's gonna hurl! YaHoo!!!

I love that feeling! So much of the debates and points the judges are raising, were the same questions I ask myself while designing.

Like you, cost was a major issue. I reduce the use of my item to once a day, because I thought it would have been to expensive (thus overpowered) otherwise. Now I know it was not necessary... or was it? So cool!

This sorte of debate really does raise the question, am I a RPG Superstar? I guess time will tell.

If that's not feasible, an Honorable Mention list would be awesome as well.

I would say that word count is not the main way people are getting auto-rejected. Two other mistakes are more common: using content not in the SRD and failing to provide any creation/costing info.

When you say "creation/costing info," do you mean the line that details caster level, required spells, and cost... or do you mean the full calculation of the cost from the formulas in the SRD?

If it's the first, I can stop worrying. If it's the second, I can stop worrying.

Know what I mean?

Although I am not a judge, it's been mentioned a few times that it was necessary to include the creation requirements and price, but not the breakdown of how you arrived at these numbers.

Liberty's Edge

Well, at least I know I did that right. I included all the info at the bottem including spells and feats needed, caster level, price, and etc.

Was thinking about cutting it though cause I didn't know if "CL 7th" counted as two or three words.

Glad I kept it, yay! ^_^

Ah, that was a post I missed. Well then, looks like I can stop worrying. ;)
