I read this series guys, be careful. A lot changes after Willow in this series. High quality writing, but be prepared.

Spoiler:
IIRC, our boy Mad Martigan (spelling?) dies in the 1st book with Sorsha. Off-stage, too, I think.

go look for

The Sword and the Sorcerer

Wow! I like him as an actor. I never realized how much stuff he was in! I remember the Dukes of Hazzard and Fall Guy episodes, but holy crap, he was one busy actor!

Grand Lodge

Huh? Who the hell is Brion James?

*clicks on link*

YESSSSS! I do love this guy! He was in Blade runner! And The fifth element! And, um... Red Scorpion. Awesome!

Grand Lodge

Cyborg. Not because it's any good, but it is extraordinarily 1980s. And it has Van Damme in a preposterous wig.

Funny you should mention that.

You have no idea how much trouble you just saved me.

Ok, maybe you do.

It's a long story...

War Games
Cloak & Dagger
ET
Time Bandits
Yellow Beard

As much as I loved Empire..., Return...and Bladerunner, the eighties for me will always be in the company of Alex Murphy and Conor Macleod.

So, my wife and I are watching Chuck last Tuesday. There's a Chinese gangster in it. He's played by the guy who played Lo Pan in Big Trouble.

His name in Chuck...Ben Lo Pan.

My wife could not understand why I thought that was such a big deal.

Speaking of Rutger Hauer and Brion James--

Flesh and Blood

[Edited to include Brion James]

You know I very nearly mentioned Flesh and Blood when I made the original post... great minds think alike =)

Ladyhawk was the best.

Vampire Hunter D
Ninja Scroll

these are must own for gamers :) not sure they are 80's though

The Barbarian Brothers hehe; fluff, not at all serious, but fun
Dragonslayer; the dragon is really cool; the hero not so much
The Keep; 1940's time period but is a movie for great D&D themes; nice monster too
The Howling; werewolves (Silver Bullet is better though)
Dagon; not sure when it was made
Hearts and Armor; knights during the crusades; I like it; some don't
The Challenge - modern time frame way of Bushido type movie
Circle of Iron - a fantasy type martial arts monk on a mythical quest.
Jason and the Argonaughts - not to good; but if you like Kull you might.

A couple that haven't been mentioned that have some great elements to steal for games:

The Road Warrior.
The Thing.

Ladyhawke is great but gods does it need a new soundtrack.

That music is terrible.

My mom's been saying that for years - it's her favorite movie, but damn, that music... :O

Really? I liked the soundtrack. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy that aspect of the film. Me thinks I'm going to be in the minority on this one.

The soundtrack is just way too 1980's tangerine dreamy for my taste. I feel like it doesn't mesh with a fantasy film.

It does mesh well with parachute pants, side pony tails and the height of Don Johnson's career.

and while thats pretty fantastic in its own right. . .

It just doesn't fit in a movie about love and lycanthropy.

after a couple minutes of thought I have realized that the last comment in my above post is nonsense.

I am sure that there are more than a few movies about "love and lycanthropy" that have synthesizers in the background.

...shudder...

Bladerunner
Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure
Bill and Teds Bogus Journey
The Breakfast Club
Less Than Zero

Like Way Evil Sammich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Scanners; some psionics for your collection.

The following's not a film, but a TV series that you should like... Robin of Sherwood. Not the crappy new version, but the one done in the 80s featuring Michael Praed and later Jason Connery as Robin. It was gritty, atmospheric, and also had supernatural elements too. It also features a double-scimitar wielding drow!
OK, that last line's a joke, but it did feature a double-scimitar wielding character for part of it, although I can't remember how many episodes; it was 20 years ago! I only hope it's not dated too badly.

Edit: How could I forget- it also has a theme tune by Clannad! It also had Ray Winstone (Beowulf) as Will Scarlet.

I love this thread!

RPG hack at its finest. This movie makes Dungeons & Dragons look like Lord of the Rings.
