Sam and Rich,
It's funny, I've been here long enough to know who is conservative, they've never been dragged into any flame wars and they are respected posters on these boards. I am liberal, even for a Canadian, and have enjoyed my discussions with them.
Contrary to the post linked above, from the WotC boards, I can say without a doubt that talking about religion and politics usually does not result in flaming on Paizo boards. Not until lately.
So it interests me when I meet someone who says that such talk always results in flaming. More fascinating is that this someone might blame the flaming on others, because then I suspect we are seeing false attribution, and that the someone is actually one of the prime constituents in brewing the war. Sure yellowdingo is baiting people, but at least he's funny and astute. That his attacks on American stupidity bother you is no reason to flip out like a ninja and kill a village. Americans have done a lot of intelligent things too, and have no reason to take it personally when someone observes their warts, weaknesses, and stinky brown skidmarks.
Be cool. Keep posting. Avail yourself of the cool pbp games.
All hail the new page!

True, what flame wars we occasionally have usually quiet down after one page. And the worst that happens is usually that the same old arguments are brought up thread after thread after thread (gun control being one of the more popular). Usually.
Calling someone "piece of crap" does not work as rhetoric tactic. Just a word of advice.

A puntax on you!!! ;)
Gah! Where? I totally just got out of the shower too.
I keep threadjacking and threadjacking this thread, and it just won't die.
I officially declare this the herpes of threads. You treat it and treat it, and it just flares its oozy head up again in a few minutes (hopefully no one is eating breakfast right now).

Sam and Rich,
Interesting that you address us together.
Perhaps you are confusing who said what, and in response to what. It's funny, I've been here long enough to know who is conservative, they've never been dragged into any flame wars and they are respected posters on these boards. I am liberal, even for a Canadian, and have enjoyed my discussions with them.
I am supposed to be a conservative?
Not according to conservatives I know.Contrary to the post linked above, from the WotC boards, I can say without a doubt that talking about religion and politics usually does not result in flaming on Paizo boards. Not until lately.

Maybe it is because of experience in other forums.
You may be one of the few people who do not know the "legends" of the Greytalk Mailing list.More fascinating is that this someone might blame the flaming on others, because then I suspect we are seeing false attribution, and that the someone is actually one of the prime constituents in brewing the war. Sure yellowdingo is baiting people, but at least he's funny and astute. That his attacks on American stupidity bother you is no reason to flip out like a ninja and kill a village. If you acknowledge that yellowdingo is baiting people, then you are acknowledging that he is in fact the active troll. Yet nowhere have I seen him called the troll. That does not speak well of the motives of the people complaining about the flames said troll invites.
You also seem to be ignoring some of the very offensive flames yellowdingo has directed at people. That very much means me. He has called me a terrorist, both here and on the WotC forums for daring to question his lousy economics posts, and also called me a plagiarist here for the same thing. You might also want to ask him about his utter lack of taste in musing about the xp he would get for inducing a heart attack in someone on the WotC forums. Again, not acknowledging this history does not speak well of people complaining about the signal to noise ratio of the posts of people, or even the general content of select posts from those people.
Add to that deliberate baiting from others, particularly calling people out on a so-called apology thread, and that rather poorly timed complaint about people from the WotC forums trying to trash these ones (you know what I mean), and again it does not look too good.
Be cool. Keep posting. Avail yourself of the cool pbp games.

I remain cool. I will keep posting.
However, I hate pbp games. :-P (I have never been in one that lasted more than half a dozen encounters. I prefer chat based gaming. My current group is coming up on seven years, in our fourth major campaign arc.)Mike McArtor Contributor |

Umm...
Maybe what we need to permanently threadjack this discussion (or to otherwise end it) is to smurfify it.
That way, it doesn't smurf if you have smurf-wing beliefs or smurf-wing beliefs, since nobody can smurfin' tell them apart! :D Declaring yourself pro-smurf is a good way of riding the fence. :)

I got sent out of the room in a HS History class because I told the teacher that something was "smurfin' ridiculous". I still thought it was funny, but he told me, "I knew what you meant."
I've kicked kids out of the classroom for similar things. being a responsable adult sucks.
So
Smurf on!
SMurf on!

Dude. That smurfin' sucks. I know that smurfs these days have to be extra smurfy, but come on. What ever happened to the smurf amendment to the Smurfitution? Your right to free smurf has been violated. We should protest!
Smurf no, we won't smurf!

For the record, I find the "word" smurfous hilarious.
Hmm, good point. Smurf language doesn't really lend itself to sarcasm (for example, this sentence was originally tongue in cheek, which sounded downright awful when any of the words were replaced with smurf).
What color do smurfs turn when they run out of breath, I wonder?

In high school, my best friend and I wrote a long, drawn-out "story" whilst in study halls. For censoring, we often used "smurf" and its derivatives. Either that, or "dune"...as in "get your duning dune off my dune!"
("Dune" being that wonderful Frank Herbert novel and series...and the David Lynch movie that I love to hate.)
