You crazy Americans! In the UK (maybe less so now, as it is an old advert) there was an advert for decongestant nasal spray and the main tag was, "Maaaalcooolm! Don't forget your nasal spray!" So it is a much less cool name here, even if it is also the name of Scottish kings and Shakespearean characters.

(lol) here, the kid would get boucoup punk points for invoking groovy colloquial British humor that only the hip understand.

Liberty's Edge

Whelp, gramma's here; gotta piss off to the hospital. ;)

Here. You could've said the exact same thing without that nauseating bit of inciteful rubbish. See how my editing of your statement makes your content a little more acceptable? It doesn't modify your point whatsoever, assuming your primary goal isn't one of muckraking.

I wasn't trying to be nice, I was trying to make a point, and your reaction tells me i succeeded.

Language insulting to blacks offends you. Language insulting to jews offends me. Get it now?

Language insulting to any ethnic group is offensive to me, but I stand by your right to spew it. Your example was perfect, even if unnecessarily vitriolic. I stand up for anyone's right to be a crazy, offensive, completely wrong, rabblerousing jerk, which is why I'm bothering to reply at all.

For what it's worth, I now lump you in the same group as yellowdingo, who at least has a hint of whimsy to him.

So I'm now a fine upstanding member of the forum, whom everyone here will defend, no matter how offensive and annoying I get? Yippee!

See my comments above - you are entitled to your views. What is bothering us is the way you promulgate your views, via aggressively belittling anyone who doesn't agree with everything you say. This is becoming a bit like a broken record, playing over and over again, but I shall repeat myself one more time - the content of your message is not the problem, it is the delivery.

Most people here make their points while being nice. You are welcome to join in :)

This is the opinion I have of the Dragonsfoot boards you call home. While most of the people are polite I have read some very antagonistic posts that made me not want to post my own ideas for fear of being considered a grognard poseur.

At Dragonsfoot you are polite and considerate. I have found most of your posts there informative or interesting. I have never seen you so full of rage on those boards. What is it about the Paizo boards that makes you want to lash out?

I understand that there are times when situations can be very frustrating but in the realm of civil discourse it usually pays to take a breath and form an argument without anger even when others aren't playing by the same rules. And if you take that rule to heart you can be certain you never intentionally start any fights either.

I don't defend bigotry or hatred, I defend civil discourse.

Trolling is a nuance. Sometimes, just having an opposing opinion can seem to be a troll response. The hardest thing to moderate it the line between opposed belief and trolling. In todays political environment where hate rhetoric is the main tool of communication, trolls thrive. The art of trolling is as basic as the typical one liner, to an elaborate post worded carefully to push that button.

Its the latter type of response that will get the hottest flame wars and involve Moderate Clickage on the threads.

Liberty's Edge

Congrats, Heathy and Aaron! Woot! :)

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

I hate coming in from the weekend and having to deal with stuff like this.

chatdemon rich, I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding the paizo.com messageboards. We don't moderate heavily because the vast majority of people who come here recognize quickly that paizo.com isn't like every other place on the internet.

Out of the 38 or so posts you've made on our messageboards, I think one or two were polite and on-topic. Every other post is combative, nasty, insulting or otherwise inappropriate. That's a terrible batting average, and does nothing to help the conversation.

I'm giving you a seven-day timeout. This is the first time we've ever had to do this. I'd really like it to be the last.

The Exchange

Yes, sorry Gary. I encouraged him a little but I realise you actually have to read all this stuff and I imagine it is a bit soul-destroying.

Is it just me, or is this thread in dire need of a balls-in-a-bowl allegory?

Congrats Heathy. Another Gator joins the fold.

I really do want this topic to die out, but I just had to quote a post from the WotC boards that seemed particularly on-topic and laden with irony:

someone on the WotC boards posted on Saturday, October 13 wrote:

Talking about other hobbies and interests is one thing, talking about topics that are sure to generate bad blood isn't needed here. It's bad enough arguing over which campaign setting or game edition is better, arguing over politics, religion and other current events is best left to websites created for that purpose.

I leave it to the astute reader to deduce who I am quoting.

Or, you can just click here.

This is the penultimate threadlocking.

Great, you are really making life hard on publishers, ya know I can see the posts now-

"They said it would be out in 2008, I checked on January 1st and it is not out yet, that publishing company is a bunch of liars!
Heathansson said the baby was due on Tuesday and I checked at
12:01am and that baby...was...out! Now tell me again why you couldn't get that book out on time."

Congratulations, Heathy!

Let me know if you get stuck on a name, I have a whole bunch my wife won't let us use.

The Exchange

Wow, I'm so glad that I've accidentally come to a part of the boards I generally tend to ignore.

Congrats, Heathy and Aaron, it's good to see that even in threads like this one, we get to hear good news :)

Dark Archive Contributor

Grats to the new parents. Hurray for making new gamer geeks (in 5 to 8 years). :D

Gratz Heathy!

If my wife has anything to say about it she won't be but I am already scheming on how to make a gamer out of her yet (and between my daughters uncles and myself, I think we can do it). Besides I think my wife might be more worried that she will become a mixed martial arts or gun junkie.

To be fair, his first post on this thread said exactly the same thing.

Weird.

I told Rich just last night that these forums were beginning to remind me of the anti-social attitude and random cross-forum attacks typical of the "grognards" from Dragonsfoot.
Or perhaps the TML.

you cant be serious; is this a joke or sarcasm; hard to tell; if your calling me a: and I quote "america hating, bush hating, jew hating piece of crap. If that's not you, you're a troll" then we're gonna have serious issues.

Let's be totally straight with each other here. This community is insular and unwelcoming to anything that isn't lockstep embrace of the popular ideas. It's only pleasant if you, like the rest of the "lords of the boards" are an america hating, bush hating, jew hating piece of crap. If that's not you, you're a troll.

And yes, I mean you, any of you who defend the bigotry that got the win the war thread closed. Any of you who defend yellowdingo's ignorant campaign of attacks on the US when I call him out on it. I mean you.

Wow, someone got me to agree with Sebastion again *grin* and grats Heathy on the little ones; am thinking ol malformed is right and heck if heathy says your flaming someone; that is saying something cause he is the most over the top of most of us. Am just gonna skip over any <insert name> Rich posts; if I wanted to read garbage I could go outside and stare at the dumpster. Interesting that I am not the only one who reads back through a persons posts to get a feel for the poster. Times like these make me wonder what we could have done to not throw fat on the fire, sigh had such high hopes for this thread; started off as a nice apology which I really thought was heartfelt.

Guys, I know your hearts are in the right place trying to engage this guy, but take a moment to flip through his posts. I think I've seen one that wasn't an attack. On top of that, his responses thus far demonstrate that he doesn't want to have a dialogue. He wants to be the victim, he wants to be attacked. You're not going to change his mind and make him understand acceptable huamn interactions, you're just going to keep him here spewing more vitriole.

Let it go. If he has anything intelligent to say, he'll learn to post respectfully. And if he doesn't, he's more than welcome to leave the community and find someplace where his level of discourse is appreciated.
