I just wanted to apologize once again for any vitriol I added to said thread which led to it being closed. As mentioned by others above: religion and politics are polarizing topics for message boards. I obviously feel very strongly about my political beliefs; I certainly don't want said beliefs fueling ugly feelings on a gaming forum! Once again, sorry and here's to moving on to more relevant topics: like 4th edition and the future of gaming in general. Cheers and good day!

Reply in kind to idiocy is trolling now?
Or is it that I'm responding with an unpopular opinion?
I'm confused, please clarify.
Sheesh, are we going to have to close this tread too? Let's lay off the nastiness, it's over. I quite like the political threads, as this community is generally well informed, but people do get over-excited. So let's drop it. All of it.

Quite telling that you feel the need to say that to me, but not to anyone calling me a troll.

Because I have posted in this site for a while and know the individuals posting to be polite and open-minded (OK, Sebastian get's a bit OTT sometimes but his heart is in the right place, and he always has a (usually well-argued) point beyond the bluster). If things have blown up it is possibly quite likely that you had a hand in it, since I have argued with a number of people here and came away informed rather than insulted. Your posts are fairly intemperate in tone - the one above is pretty combative. I haven't bothered to look at the other thread and what it was about, so I don't know what happened, but I do know that they don't close threads often around here. It is probably better to breathe deeply, count to ten, cut down on the invective and moderate what you are writing if you want to hang around here and be welcomed. I could choose to ignore you, but I'm actually saying "Hi" and suggesting a more constructive relationship between you, me and the other board members. If you don't want it, fine, but this is a generally pleasant community and I like virtually everyone one here, so it would be a shame if you end up stalking off in a huff. Just saying.

Well, to take a page from Saern's book; I believe it much more healthy for someone to rant here than at the post office or such if you get the reference. Some people just need to unload their baggage and have no other safe venue, but the problem inherent in type is that you cannot see the reaction of others to your words and thus cannot tell when someone is getting upset or past being polite. Having read such threads for a while, I have found that most peeps dont intend to be hurtful, and when they explain themselves more fully everyone seems to calm down.
This microcosm here is a small piece of the disease that plagues humanity with the same outcomes. One or more people have a difference of deeply grained opinion; dont know how to equate a solution that all parties can live with; so someone with the power to enact authority steps in and with that power enacts change.
As Americans, many of us believe that discourse is healthy, that as long as people proport themselves with honesty, that something can be learned and wisdom gained from two people argueing about whose grass is greener. Of course if you not honest; then your just trolling and flaming and probably wont last on these boards as we all are fairly tight and generally can tell after a while when someone is truely upset or if they are just being a butthead.
Sir K has also shown us something typically American; that after a lot of venting and hurt feelings; someone will step forward with the courage and leadership to take it on the chin and say he is sorry about his conduct - not his opinion - as to start the release of all the pent up anger, others join in and appologize in return. Kudos I say. It is not that people get in arguments; they are going to happen, its that people can come together afterwards realizing that they are not going to have a resoluton and still get along in a civilized, polite manner.
be well, happy gaming
lol where did that soapbox come from - just goes to show I meant it more as a group hug or round of beers whatever your pleasure :)

If you were truly responding with an unpopular opinion, you'd at least say it intelligently. Hell, I do it all the time. However, what you're doing is inflammatory.

Let's be totally straight with each other here. This community is insular and unwelcoming to anything that isn't lockstep embrace of the popular ideas. It's only pleasant if you, like the rest of the "lords of the boards" are an america hating, bush hating, jew hating piece of crap. If that's not you, you're a troll.
And yes, I mean you, any of you who defend the bigotry that got the win the war thread closed. Any of you who defend yellowdingo's ignorant campaign of attacks on the US when I call him out on it. I mean you.

And what you're doing, as usual, is riding your pals' bandwagon. Have you even read what I've said? Have you read where Erik said I was correct in saying that replaying the closed thread in this one is improper? I doubt it. Doesn't jive with what your buddies want to say. Doesn't champion the people trying to take cheap final shots at others from the closed thread. Doesn't make me look like anything more than a troll. That can't be allowed, any of it, right? Gotta keep the riff raff out of your little clique, right?

I'm not a big fan of anti-Americanism, but I can empathize with it (and I live in Detroit) to a certain degree, especially with you giving people the impression we’re an assemblage of rabid wolverines.
America should be known for the one thing that makes it greater than the sum of its parts: tolerance. Therefore, I’m going to extend a welcome to you, along with a “please tone it down a little.” We (and that now includes you) come here to relax, so stop acting as if you weren't hugged enough as a child and enjoy some D&D.

Chatdemon rich, with all due respect, all anyone has to do is click on your name above one of your posts and then click your recent posts on your profile page. Doing so, I see nothing more than a vitriolic spewfest dating back over a year. When you CONSTANTLY call people morons and things that cannot make it through the profanity filter, people kind of get a certain idea about you. After a while of this, your reputation proceeds you.
YOu can try to wrap yourself in the flag all you want, but your reputation proceeds you.Aubrey the Malformed |

Oh, get lost then. And you are wrong. I'm actually quite right wing - I was in favour of the Gulf War, don't believe it was a corporatist conspiracy, and reckon that they should stay until they finish the job (and largely agreed with Sam Weiss, though his tone left a little to be desired towards the end). However, I am capable of disagreeing with my fellow board members politely. But I don't need your validation. If you don't like us, go away. Jeez, I was was trying to be nice - take your inadequacies somewhere else.
By the way, do you actually play D&D? (That's a rhetorical question - we will not be communicating again.)
Aaron Whitley |
Besides, trolling in response to trolling is still trolling no matter how you try to disguise it. Trolling=trolling and is unacceptable no matter the circumstances. If the profanity filters kick in then you are probably trolling. You are more than welcome to disagree all you want but there is no need for the aggressiveness and the attacking.

Calling me a troll is trying to be nice? Are you that g&@ d&~n stupid that you forget what you wrote less than one page ago. or do you assume that I've forgotten it?B%%*~#$* like this is why i don't post here that often. I don't need to be part of your circle jerk to validate my gaming. I don't need to endlessly post here about what I dislike about Paizo's D&D and Greyhawk material. I do have a right to speak up when I see behavior like that of the people who decided to ignore the moderation of the win the war thread and continue it here.

Guys, I know your hearts are in the right place trying to engage this guy, but take a moment to flip through his posts. I think I've seen one that wasn't an attack. On top of that, his responses thus far demonstrate that he doesn't want to have a dialogue. He wants to be the victim, he wants to be attacked. You're not going to change his mind and make him understand acceptable huamn interactions, you're just going to keep him here spewing more vitriole.
Let it go. If he has anything intelligent to say, he'll learn to post respectfully. And if he doesn't, he's more than welcome to leave the community and find someplace where his level of discourse is appreciated.

No, I am not wrong. Defending the words of bigots makes you a bigot. It's that simple. If you insist on defending the people who ignored the win the war thread's closure and continued it here, and continue to defend yellowdingo's hate filled tirades against the US by calling me a troll when I speak any words critical of them, you are defending bigots. Entirely your right, but don't try and hide behind some wall of righteousness.

This is my point right here. There's simply no call for this. This doesn't achieve anything, calling everybody a pinko anti-semite because they don't champion your latest attempt at trolling as the epitome of patriotism.

No see, it's the out of hand dismissal of me as a troll when I DARE to question anyone who is posting bigtory that makes you a bigot. I don't care if you agree with me or not, but if you're going to defend those spouting off hate here, we're going to have issues.

If you can find the term 'troll' in my previous posts, feel free to denigrate me as you see fit - though you don't normally need anyone's permission to do that. I suggested your tone was a tad aggressive and suggested you moderated it. Not unreasonable, but your outspewing of bile was probably a bit predictable, in retrospect.
But you have a habit of misrepresenting people, don't you Rich. I had a look at those dreadful examples where yellowdingo denigrates the US and everything you hold dear in the previous thread. It was pretty clear, in context, that he was being ironic or that you simply twisted what was being written to support your own agenda (whatever that is - freeform ranting seems to be the main point, so far as I can tell).
(Yes, I know I haven't mainained my lofty silence. But, while it is cruel and doubtless illegal in civilised countries such as in Scandinavia, baiting you is quite good fun. Funnily enough, we probably agree politically on lots of things, though you strike me as more "authoritarian right wing" rather than the more libertarian approach I prefer. Like I said before, you need to calm down. And if you find that patronising or annoying (if? - ho ho) then sorry, but you really come across as a maniac right now.)
(And sorry, Gary, you might need to close this thread too. I couldn't resist.)

Rich, wake up and smell the coffee. It is not what you are saying, it is the way you are saying it. No one can debate with you because you turn nasty, so it turns into a slanging match.

Er, no, that's twaddle. Defending free speech and reasoned argument is actually the antithesis of bigotry.

Ah, let me rephrase.
"Please mr bigot, dont call us americans nazis anymore, I really dont like it."
I didn't quote the other posts where YD makes jokes about hitler. I didn't post complaints about the people in the win the war thread who blamed jews for all the problems in the middle east and promoted the destruction of Israel.
I'm not Jewish, but listen well, there is no civil response to that manner of bigotry. It must be dealt with harshly, or it gets to a point where noone complains about, or worse, to a point where those who do complain about it are attacked by the status quo.
chatdemon rich |
Um, no. That statement proves you don't have a clue what being an American is all about. Defending the rights of bigots makes you a patriot.
So, if I go out and champion the KKK for putting them damn n%$$s in their place, I'm a patriot? And if you criticize me for doing so, you are the bad guy?
How the hell does that work?
And for the record, I have no ill feelings or disrespect for any race, color, ethnicity. The language above was used for shock value to make a point. My apologies to any who take offense at such use of a racial slur.

Although, truthfully if I had a boy, I would've gone with Malcolm; it's a cool name.
You crazy Americans! In the UK (maybe less so now, as it is an old advert) there was an advert for decongestant nasal spray and the main tag was, "Maaaalcooolm! Don't forget your nasal spray!" So it is a much less cool name here, even if it is also the name of Scottish kings and Shakespearean characters.

Here. You could've said the exact same thing without that nauseating bit of inciteful rubbish. See how my editing of your statement makes your content a little more acceptable? It doesn't modify your point whatsoever, assuming your primary goal isn't one of muckraking.
